'Sadly our worst fears were realised' on missing Indonesian submarine KRI Nanggala

Sky News host Chris Kenny says "sadly our worst fears were realised" when it came to the fate of the missing Indonesian submarine.
It has been confirmed the submarine has been found cracked apart on the sea floor in waters off the coast of Bali.
The vessel was broken into three pieces at a depth of 850 metres - well beyond its survivable limits.
The military has confirmed all 53 personnel onboard have died.
Mr Kenny spoke to the Australian Institute of Submarines' Frank Owen about the latest developments on the issue.

One of the victims of the KRI Nanggala 402 accident is "Letda Laut Rhesa Sigar". The fact that his father "Letkol (Inf) Simson Sigar" also died in a helicopter crash during the East Timor mission 23 years ago. So the father and son died in carrying out their duties to protect the sovereignty of the country. The Father and Son is trully a heroes of our Country Indonesia. My biggest Thanks to you, father and son. And my deepest condolence for the victims family.

As I understand it once a Submariner always a submariner, you are never an Ex instead known as Non-active ? The news of this tragedy must stir feelings or emotions those who have never been in a boat could know. Typically with most military these would be very young men in there late teens and 20’s. Planes are alot harder to find since they tend to break up into multiple tiny pieces when they crash as high speeds which also tend to float away with the currents, meanwhile ships/subs are alot easier since they tend to remain intact for the most part and near there location they were last recorded.
