If you own a Husqvarna 701 or KTM 690 you know how annoying it is that these bikes require tools to access the battery. That is why I made this SAE battery connector motorcycle install How-To video. With a small SAE battery connector kit (link included below) and a few minutes of your time you will be able to install this universal SAE battery connector where it can be easily accessed even with gloves on, to save you time in the shop or on the road. Charging, jump starting and powering outboard accessories will be quick and easy by removing the seat of your Husky701 or KTM690 and pulling out the SAE battery connector. Wherever you travel the SAE battery connector is perhaps the most common battery connector that you will find in motorcycle accessories, whether in town, across the country or around the world.
This SAE battery connector motorcycle install requires just an 8mm wrench and 8mm socket and a few small cable ties.
While this connector installation is specific to the Husqvarna 701 and KTM 690 the method is obviously largely the same for whatever bike you own.
Similar SAE connector cable kits are available from a variety of retailers however for your convenience the kit in the install video can be found at the following link: amzn.to/3CtsjAB
I hope this was helpful, I'm always delighted to get your questions comments and feedback.

Hi chris if you have accessories already on the battery such as heated grips does it matter which you apply to battery first?
@dualsportgarage

No, as long as all the connections are in contact with each other it won’t make a difference… However, I prefer to put heated grips on a switched accessory line which is available behind the headlight and which will keep your heated grips from draining your battery by accident because it only has power when the key is on. I have a video posted on my channel showing you where how to connect them…but even your current setup should be fine adding this to what you have.

Thanks for the vid! I’m new to motorcycles. My motorcycle came with the SAE connector already installed. If I buy a usb charger accessory and I plug it in to the SAE, do I need to turn off the usb charger every time or will the connector automatically shut off the usb every time the bike is off?

If your SAE connector is installed as I have shown (direct to the battery) it will be "always on". This is not a problem if you don't leave accessories plugged into it, and as long as it doesn't also have an LED display, showing Volts, Time, or whatever...that type of display will draw down your battery. If it's just a simple USB outlet you can leave it connected if you wish. As an alternative, if you wish to connect your USB outlet to a power source which is switched on and off with the key. One can be found behind the headlight. It is labeled ACC2. Hope that helps...cheers!

@@dualsportgarage Thanks for that great answer! I plan to get one that shows the volts so I will definitely make sure to switch it off manually every time.

Hi, how do I determine which fuse to use? 15/10/20 amp?
@dualsportgarage
@dualsportgarage 6 ай бұрын
I run the 15amp fuse on mine since motorcycle chargers only need 1 or 2 amps, and motorcycle accessories are typically designed to run well below 10 amps(of course read the specs before connecting anything). Technically the gauge of the wire dictates the maximum amps you can continuously run through the wire safely. 16 gauge should be limited to 12 amps, 14 gauge should be limited to 15 amps, and 12 can run 20 amps. Hope that helps
