Went to SAE Miami from September 2010 to June 2011, and Frank was among the kindest, coolest, and most knowledgeable instructors working there. I'm glad I stumbled upon this tutorial, hope everything is going well Frank. - Danny / Audio Technology Diploma, 0910FT

Frank, Thanks for taking the time and being a great explainer, your videos are an education! ✌🏼

Nice video, not forgetting to mention that if the Distressor is mono (not linked with another one), if you press the Link button, you get more distortion out of the unit. Basically because the "Link" sums 2 inputs and if one is missing, the other one will receive a hotter signal and so more distortion (to explaining it quickly).

Thx, was curious about that.

question regarding the attack and release - Is the attack faster as you turn the knob values up towards 10? or slower? Is the release faster as you go to higher knob values, or slower?

Do odd order harmonics really "crush transients a little bit more" than even order harmonics?
@talktokale3 жыл бұрын
Somewhat drastic wording, but yes. In the Distressor, Dist 3 mode emphasizes 3rd order harmonics. This gain is nonlinear, and flattens the top and bottom of the waveform (this is what he's referring to specifically). Generally, this is thought of as a smoother feel, like analog tape, when used carefully. If you were to push 3rd order harmonics to the extremes, it will certainly crush the transients.

is the only reason to have two distressors to differentiate left from right sound, or would there be other reasons? if you want symmetrical room sound (lef & right equally), then one distressor for bus-compression is just fine, right?
@VinnieLeeStudio4 жыл бұрын
The Distressor is a MONO device. You need two to process stereo.

@@VinnieLeeStudio yes I know. but one is fine to split to R&L speaker

So what compressors beats the 737 Avalon that way I invest in it I want the best of the best
@factsmajormgmt57216 жыл бұрын
the avalons compressor is nowhere near as good as this. but obviously the 737 does more things.

Cool video. I thought it was a perfect explaination. I was staring at this pair of Distressors kinda not knowning how to use them and not knowing that they could do this much. The manuals they come with arent very clear on that. Thank you!!!
