If you need to more or less need to trick your parents/guardians into getting a binder, there are these equestrian sports tops called Cheta trotter bras that are pretty much binders marketed at cis women. They’re kinda expensive but work very well, even on large chests

Tips: NEVER EVER run with a binder on. A few days ago I had a binder on and had to run in PE and at first I got used to it, but since I had to bind for 4 hours later, everything was hurting and my lungs and chest and ribs all hurt in unison and I survived but it definitely made my whole day bad and I hurt so much that I had to stay in bed after school

Also here’s some words of encouragement: if your genetics are in the right place, you may be able to avoid top surgery as a whole if you start testosterone. Because if you get into weight lifting and work out your chests heavily, ur chest will shrink and be replaced by pecks

Yeah. My best friend is trans and we had gym as a last period together. He was out as I wasn't so he would change in an separate bathroom. And everyday when we'd have to run I'd ask him if he was binding and usually he'd say yes and I'd have to nag him everyday. >:( Especially since we would hang out for 2 more hours everyday after school(with a lot of walking) and he would frequently sleep in it. He's much better now but as his friend it really hurt to see him hurting himself like that. 0/10 would not recommend >:(

I’ve tried those horrible cheap clip binders from eBay and Amazon, one of those was my first binder, which I threw out because THEY DO NOT STRETCH. THEY DO NOT LET YOU BREATHE COMPLETELY. I couldn’t donate it because it would only hurt someone else’s lungs.

A WARNING: I haven't used a binder yet, but I do use sports bras. If you wanna be super technical they're training bras which DEFINITELY do not fit me anymore. I used to bind for days at a time because I thought "it's not a real binder, it's probably fine." Do NOT do what I did. My ribs may not be bruised but, as far as I can tell, it's fucked with my breathing. Constantly throughout the day(even when I'm not binding) I have periods where I feel like I can't breath. So I have to take a large breath in and people usually think I'm sighing. This isn't medical or anything but it's definitely still something you should avoid.

I wore four "training bras" and a tank top every day when I was younger, I thought the same thing but it definitely fucked up the way I breath, I still have a hard time breathing some days. I also slept with them on alot to wich definitely damaged my breathing

kt tape isnt inherently dangerous, its literally athletic tape. you can wear it for several days. the only thing you have to be conscious of is how many times you are taking it on and off, even the company said it can take a little bit of skin cells off. and if you are repeatedly removing and applying it without washing your skin it can lead to infection. its an option for those who want to take a break for a couple of days from a conventional binder!

I’m lucky that I’m good at sewing, so I sewed myself a binder. I’m doing research to make sure that I did it properly, so while there’s a little bit of a bump on my chest, I figured that it’s much more important to be safe than flat. I’m starting out with one hour, and I’m gonna add one hour of binding per day until school starts so that I’m used to wearing it by the time it’s important for me to wear it, and I plan to stop if something seems off.

Home made binder are not very safe but if you wear it for 8 or less hours a day and make sure to take break days you should be okay if it's your only option , if it's not I recommend getting a gc2b binder, or if that's too expensive, you can get an underworks one which doesnt bind quite as well but is cheaper and more breathable, only get the amazon brand ones if you are super super desperate, please make sure to be safe when binding, it's so so so important. Take my advice with a grain of salt, I'm not an expert and haven't been binding for very long

Another little tip. I have had my GC2B binder since october (my first one was a bad Amazon one) and just recently I realized that you should not wear a sports bra under your binder. It makes it harder to breathe and makes it harder to have a flatter chest. Also it loosens your binder after one wear, making you have to wash it more often. Washing my binder often has helped me feel better when I do wear it. (Only wash your GC2B binder on delicate in a washer or hand wash and hang dry it.

I’m in high school and I typically bind every day and I’m in 5 clubs at school so I usually end up binding for about 10 hours a day, excluding weekends. My ribs are bruised and I can’t bind for about a month, or until a week after my ribs are better. I definitely learned my lesson! I’m glad I have a bunch of big sweatshirts to wear in the meantime. Another thing about KT tape!!! It messes up your skin elasticity which can also affect your ability to get top surgery and your results!! I don’t recommend using it if you’re planning on getting surgery soon - and if you do I’d make sure to keep your chest moisturized so you skin stays soft and elastic

I'm in band and play the flute, I also bind. When I first started binding I couldn't really play very well because I would run out of breath a lot faster. I did exercises at home where I tried holding each note a little longer each time. It took quite some time to get used to using so much air while wearing a binder, but after a couple of months i was able to play perfectly fine again. You will be worse at singing than usual just because of the binder pressing down on your chest ect. But my tip is just be careful if you are planning to use it at school. When I would finish playing I would always feel a sharp pain in my lungs, so I would have to take it off. Be careful and listen to your body, and if you don't feel comfortable singing or if it hurts when you do so. Don't wear it. Always take any sports bra or anything to use if it does bother you. Hope this helped. Good luck

My tip (although Im very late) is to maybe take it off before whenever you have to sing. This could be very difficult since binders arent the easiest thing to get out of, but I always just ask to go to the bathroom and take it off there.

I used to wear corsets a lot. And a lot of the rules are incredibly similar. (now I realize that i did it because I was attracted to my own body.) (*laughs nervously in gay.*) The only difference’s I can think of are; For corsets the equivalent word for binding (in the following context) is “lacing” With corsets, not only do you have to get your body used to wearing it, but you have to break in the corset. Typically by wearing it for a short amount of time, very loose, and increasing time over a week or so, then increasing the tightness, just a little, and repeating until you are lacing to your (healthy) comfort level. For corsets, how tightly you can lace while being healthy can be determined by your body and how it’s built. More muscular people shouldn’t lace as tightly as people with higher body fat percentage can. But all of the other rules are basically the same. Wearing a corset in a healthy way is essential to feeling comfortable in one.

Wow this is honestly the most thorough info dump on binding I've seen. I don't bind anymore cuz I got top surgery a year ago and I've actually been wondering if binding is what caused my costochobdritis. One thing I know for sure is that costo has been so much more manageable now that im not binding. I used to injure myself a lot when I would work during a flare up and be out sick for a few days. Now when I have a flare up I have not been getting injured. Idk that's just a correlation, its possible that I've just learned how to manage it better.

idk how helpful this would be as i know breathing with a binder is different for different people and i didn't wear a binder before learning this breathing thing so i can't say if/how much it's helped me buT i do think it has. so basically i sing a lot in choir, singing lessons etc. and my singing teacher taught me how to breathe properly. most people breathe too shallow. you're not actually supposed to breathe in your chest according to her, but lower down. she taught me how to do this by getting me to lie down and think of my chest as a balloon. when you fill a balloon, the bottom gets a lot more air in/gets larger (if that makes sense). it wouldn't be logical to try and breathe air only into the top of the balloon (near the bit you tie/put your mouth against). the same applies with your chest. so this probably doesn't make sense, but try to breathe into what you might consider your stomach. it isn't, really, otherwise you wouldn't be able to breathe there (wow such intellect). but from someone who isn't an expert with bits of your body, i honestly do not know what part i'm breathing into now. lying down helps because you can concentrate better on where you're breathing (+ probably another more technical reason). put your hands about level with your belly button and try and concentrate on air going down there, not straight into your chest. practice getting that lower part of you to expand (but don't just push it out using muscle! let the air do that). i could be wrong, but i think this involves your diaphragm (so the bit just under your ribs); that's what seems to expand the most to me. maybe do that exercise more than once, but i only did the whole lying down thing like twice so don't worry too much about it. then, whenever you can, focus on breathing like that. eventually it will become natural. not only will this (hopefully) help with binding as you're not pushing against your binder quite as much, it should also get more oxygen into your system as you're filling the balloon starting with the bottom, where more air can get in. i honestly don't know for sure if this is what has made breathing easy for me with a binder, but i went on a long walk, walking and running (bad idea, don't do it; i didn't realise i was going to do it with my friends and couldn't change before going due to being very dysphoric and very closeted) only a week or two after starting binding and was barely out of breath afterwards (just very sweaty skjsksjsk). i've never had any issues breathing with a binder at all.

I’m actually getting ready to come out and am creating a presentation. I’m watching this video because I want to convince my mom to let me bind cuz I was thinking of getting one for a “cosplay” (the real cosplay was actually identifying as female💀/j) and she said no for safety reasons 😭

Is there really any safe yet discreet way to bind without a binder? my transphobic parents are against me being non binary I don't want to even mention binding right now! life is horrible enough but transphobic parents make everything worse!

I would suggest wearing more loose-fitting clothes or layering shirts/jackets. Some people will suggest layering sports bras, but speaking from personal experience, I don't think its safe to do that, and its not comfortable at all. Be safe, hope this helps

So I got a binder like 3 days ago and I haven't found s proper way to take it off,,, it not too tight it doesn't hurt and I can get it on pretty comfortably but taking it off always seems to be a bit of a struggle.I'm also scared to like stretch out the elastic too much by pulling at it to take it off,, any tips? My binder is the half tank gc2b

Davie bishop new binders are always hard to take off it’ll get slightly easier with time, I try to shimmy the binder up first and grab the back from the bottom and roll up to the top then struggle to get it past your shoulders one arm at a time. Hope that made sense and helps, best of luck

personally i take mine off like a t-shirt and i've never got stuck. i also don't think the elastic has been pulled by me doing that. i grab the front and kinda pull it over my head? i'm sure it doesn't work for everyone, but i've been fine doing that

Me who already bought a binder on ebay (due next week) simply bc i will never be able to offord a good one. I will update this comment when ive tryed the binder. 👍 Edit: binder came today. I love it! Its fiddily to get on (hook loops) but i figgured it out hook it together like a hook bra round the front then slide it round to the side, then put your arms through. Its realy soft it binds well, i have full range of movement it was £5.80 so a cheep one. Im very happy for £5.80. If you can get a better quality one, get that. However if you want something that will do the job for what you need it to do you can use an ebay one. I have a cheep binder as im genderfluid so i wont be whereing it everyday. If your going to wear it everyday get a trusted good quality well known company binder. Be free to comment any questions.

Question to you or anyone who may know but do top surgeons prefer you bind as least as possible for better surgery results? I can’t bind due to health reasons but to help some of my dysphoria I was thinking if for top surgery it would be better in the long run the less I bind that would help cope with dysphoria in the now?

As far as I'm concerned(a trans male), anyone can bind if they want to. Express yourself the way YOU want to, and if being a cross dresser makes you happy then go for it! Just make sure you're being safe.

Hey, I know this is a lot later than this was posted, but whatever. I am planning on binding soon, but I also have a big school trip to Washington, DC coming up. Everyone says that wearing a sized up binder is safer to exercise in, so would wearing a size up be safer to stay in for longer? Ik if I'm hurting to take it off ,for sure, and I'll always keep that in mind I just would like to know if wearing a size up would still cause a stronger risk...

I have a question for all the trans guys. I want a binder for the school year, but I don't know which one to get. The only way I'd convince my parents to let me get one, is it it's gc2b, because it's the safest. But there are multiple kinds of binders. Any suggestions?

So idk if anyone will see this, but if you do, I'd love your input. So I've just bought my first binder as I had the perfect opportunity and reason to ask my mom to get one without it being sus and am worried about whether or not it's appropriate for me to wear it. For context, I, as of now, identify as a women, but have been questioning my gender for a while now. I'm not sure I'll ever fully figure out where I sit with regards to gender as I never seem able to pinpoint it. While I dont know what my gender necessarily is I know there are days where I would rather have a more androgynous/masculine look and form. I'm concerned as only a few people in my life know about how I'm questioning and I feel like wearing a binder while still identifying as a cis woman is rude and erasing the true purpose of a binder. I know logistically this is probably not true but I dont want to be right and then offend the trans people I know. If anyone could give their thoughts on this I'd be happy to receive it. Maybe a youtube comment section isn't the best place to ask this but I dont know where else to.

so uh my back is kinda curved and it makes one side of my ribcage stick out a little bit more than the other one and my makes my belly button slightly crooked and not semetrically in the middle with my body- i think i probably have scoliosis and crap but is it safe for me to bind? because i wear it to school everyday it isnt uncomfortable really until its PE and im to scared and uncomfortable to change in school and we gotta exersize sometimes. but i get aches a little sometimes not that bad of aches but school is 7 hours and by the time i get home its finally 8 or 9 hours and i take it off but im scared that my binder might make me even more crooked and mess up my ribs and back more.

Hi I apologize if this is rude but I need advice. I’m a female in a musical (Newsies) that is very dance heavy. The issue with this is im playing a male. I need to bind but I’m not sure what to do. As a pansexual who’s very active in the LGBTQ+ community I know that it’s a safety hazard and this being a dance heavy show originally made me think that I could just wear 2 sports bras. But there is a scene where I have to wear a white undershirt style tank top...and my boobs can’t show. So I need advice on how to do bind my chest safely without it being seen. If there is a way to do it in a binder then I’d very much appreciate being told how to. Thank you!

hey! so, i wanna make a chest binder the safest way as possible, and I don’t have cotton material (available) to do it, but I have kinda of a disposable apron, I can cut it in a half and then I can put some strings in the back (not covering it all just to one side stays close to the other, you get what I mean?) anyways, the disposable apron I have is pretty elastic, but im afraid it will cause any problems for my chest, please answer me ASAP :(
