For the reasons you mentioned above, I use a large keep net (basically a hoop net tied to the boat or a rod holder on shore with a 5 gallon bucket lid closing it) instead of a tank/bucket/livewell. My catch is still in the water but they can't escape. I'm trying to come up with a baitfish variant of the keep net. Maybe it'll become a commercial success?

I agree with all this and wish you success in your endeavors. All I know is turtles will chew holes in nets if given enough time, to get to any dead fish entrapped in the net

@@aquaticbiologist6516 That's the one major downside, other aquatic creatures might raid your keep/bait net if you aren't careful. That said, turtles are the least of one's concern in the American South. A gator could easily chomp down half your net and everything inside.

@Steve-em4tb I heard that 👀

@@aquaticbiologist6516 Keep nets are very popular in Europe and Asia where stuff like snapping turtles and gators are non-existent. A successful bait/keep net would have be made from a mixture of aramid fibers and stainless steel wire. Anything less would be shredded by the snap turtles.
