For back pack, I'd put the books in front of armor...simulating wearing pack in front of body or holding as shield. Still...good stuff. Impressed.

Throw a laptop in there too. Back in college I always had a laptop and a two to four inches of books and paper in my bag. That's got to make a noticeable difference.

Amazing review. My Children’s previous School was locked down so tight you had to wait outside and give ID through a Camera. The new Schools are very open. With one of them tucked way back in a bad Neighborhood. Id feel a lot better knowing my Son has one of these incase God forbid, anything tragic happens. Thank you for this in depth and fun review!

I might be wrong but I believe demolition ranch has a video about this. A rifle round would easily penetrate 4 or 5 layers of level iiia soft armors. It’s just such a small bullet moving at such a high speed.

Lots of deformation on all those hits. However, lightweight and no pass through. If that armor were against the body, the hits would really suck to the wearer. As a simple backpack add-on, Safe Life Defense looks fantastic. Great review.

This is freakin insanity... LOL I was wondering what would happen if you had a couple books like what kids normally have in school in front of the armor... it should slow it down and possibly start breaking it up before it hits the armor. You kind of went the other way with magazines behind it and most backpacks the armor would be closer to the person with stuff in front of it... or at least my packs and kids backpacks are like that. Either way this is some crazy voodoo they put into this stuff.

That Slomo was so cool! Not sure where 40 rounds was, but you probably meant 40 yards or something down range. That piece of armor launched like a Hail Mary. Wondering if the projectile was in it the whole time.

I’d like to see if a lvl. 3 plate inside it would stop it? Probably knock you down but would the 2 combined stop that 300 blackout. Multiple hits do break down the integrity though.

Great Review! Question - In doing the armor test as you proceed using different calibers doesn't that affect the integrity of the plate each time you move up in caliber? I.E - the 357 mag. made a huge concave impression on the plate, but that was after several rounds of other calibers. Would the impact/results be different if it were a new plate? Just asking in order to learn more about body armor. That plate was amazing - it was like Timex Watch, it take a licking but keeps on ticking.

Just a thought, by why not put the armor behind the books? Not sure that would have changed the outcome but it would have been more realistic to how someone would wear it. Id love to see a scrap laptop then a book then the armor plate and see how those items effect the bullet as it makes its way to the armor.

OK really enjoy your channel and just wanted to make three comments about this video first of all I hope those magazines were from the very very bottom of your wife’s magazine pile or that may be the last video you ever do brother. Secondly one of the funniest moments I’ve seen on a body armour video when you sent that soft armour plate absolutely flying through the air on the slow motion video we lost track of it as it flew through the air but we could see the shadow of it in the field and just watching it fly and waiting for it to come back into view was hilarious. And thirdly I have a hyper light body armour and it is fantastic and it is light so it is noticeably different than my other 3A body armour . it does take a little while to conform to breaking in but once you’ve heated it up with your body it softens and conforms to your shape it fits fantastic. I will add though that they don’t currently have a carrier that’s worthy of the thin and lightness of the hyper light panels but they have a prototype of a hyper light carrier hopefully coming to market soon because the current carriers they have all have bulging seams and overlapping Velcro‘s that really detract from how concealable hyper Light could be

Does the give in material impact the test in stopping some of the unrated rounds? Would the back pack armor be a good substitute for the level 4 plates in a vest to reduce weight and still provide level 4 protection?

You won’t get level 4 protection, but it will be lighter. Safe lite makes a level 4 soft plate that’s only about 2 lbs as well. It’s made to go in conjunction with a plate carrier to give level 4 protection. Only thing is it’s about 400 bucks per plate. A little pricey for most.

@@carpentryandguns6752 Thank you for the input. I have a Safe Lite level 3+ vest with the areas for the plates. I had to return the plates because my back couldn't handle the extra 11 lbs. With back issues I have to watch the weight. Love their products.

Serious question for anyone. When armor says it expires in 5 years what does that really mean? 5 Years and a day and you're dead? Does it disintegrate? What does it mean?

It means over time, the material of the armor degrades. It will likely work just fine still, but many manufacturers have a shelf life to make sure it performs as advertised and rated. Think of it as expired Tylenol, it'll work just fine, but likely less potent.

Americans are not the only ones watching those videos when looking into purchasing body armor. What type of body armor do you possess? What level threats can it withstand? They're soldiers, but they are also our families and friends. This is why I got blocked by a lot of people for thinking like this. This means one of two things. 1) Russia is our supplier of rare earth minerals needed to make our ammunition and nukes. They may not resupply us while we're using up our ammo. 2) They plan on using attrition. Taking our ammo off our soldiers. Awesome armor. Unfortunately, realistically an active shooter will prob use m193, m855, or 123g x39 ammo, as they are the cheapest. It's easier to obtain a rifle than a pistol in my state( prob other states as well)... The govt has to come up with a better solution to prevent all these school shootings. Those kids never stood a chance 😢. I'm pro 2a of course.. But something has to be done to those basket cases.

Lan . For my back pack armour ( typically 10x12 panels) I slip in a 10x12 porcelain floor tile that is made with about 1inch hexagonal little tiles . That allows for lots of flex and although it adds a bit off weight if the tile is the strike face with a 3 a backer it’s really cuts down back face deformation …
