Very helpful. The best technique I've seen for self-landing. Makes all kind of sense.

2 Things that are important to know is: - It only works with single-frontline-safety not double-frontline - When you got single-frontline-safety setup you have to figure out which one of the frontlines is your "flagline". Flagline must be on the top so that this self-landing procedure only works on one side of the wind-window. You have to consider this before you connect your frontlines. If not, we germans say "Toi, toi, toi" and ....good luck! =)

what happens if you land the kite like this while flagline is at the bottom?

Really cool video ! There is a bunch of video explaining why the quick realease is the best and safer way to land your kite but seeing their kite crashing from 12 o'clock always hurt my feelings =P I really enjoyed how you fly the kite down before the release letting the kite crash in a gentle and controlled way. I'll definitely try your technique in my next gusty session !

Why crash the kite on the ground before quick releasing? can you just gentely put it on its side, flag out line up, and push the quick release. This way the kite won't crash, and your equipment will have less wear and tear?
@gulliverdalton86802 жыл бұрын
I give the lower hand a bit of yank just before i pull the safety, helps the kite turn toward the ground and commit rather than drifting back up. I’ve never had it fail. Your sorta doing it naturally anyway the way you send the kite across as u pull the safety. Ozone kite Australia has a good video as well

What about the hassle to get the flagout line back in place again? Would it be easier/ faster/ more safe just to put in an ancor before going out?

all 45 seconds of hassle it takes to walk upwind, walk your line out and reconnect your safety?

Hey, is this working with kites that have the V high so that the lines dont split directly over the Bar aswell? Really was wondering about that.

With a FOIL KITE the key point will be to make sure the flag line is on the bottom side, in opposite to a LEI kite. This is the safest option in strong wind without assistant (which would be always wiser) You may as well switch the front lines in order to accommodate landing to the most appropriate position on your spot😎

Should not kite alone. This is a hard rule. Even when i was a windsurfer, that was the advice. However, i have more than once, ended up being left the last kiter on the water. Thanks for this video will give it a try.

I kite alone regularly and I agree there is always a risk, so always have an exit strategy and know your limits at your skill level

So this only works with the safety line up? And what did you mean move into the wind. Like step upwind as you pull the safety?
@Onjayyy4 жыл бұрын
Does this also work with bars that have a high y?
@SAKitesurf3 жыл бұрын
It can work with the high v setup, just make sure the flag line is on top and test it first in light wind.

What would actually happen if your flag line was at bottom?
@SAKitesurf2 жыл бұрын
Hi, if you used the quick release with the flag line on the bottom then your kite will turn over the wrong way and it will land down wind of you. You will then need to make sure you retrieve your kite hand over hand along the flag line till you have control of the leading edge.

Guess this won’t work on a 5-line kite right?? (I have North Rebel 5-line) What do you think?
@SAKitesurf3 жыл бұрын
Hi Craig, yeah unfortunately I don't see this method working for a 5 line setup. I've always had low v 4 line rigging and I feel safer Kiteboarding with this system. Stay safe out there

Does it work with a 5 lines kite?
@SAKitesurf3 жыл бұрын
I have not tried this with a 5 line kite but my immediate thought is that it probably won't work as well as the 4 line setup. Because you need to flag the the kite keeping the flag line on top as you use the quick release
@alansim61273 жыл бұрын
Well you’ve landed it but are still connected to a kite that might power up in a gust. Still need to grab flag line, and walk hand over hand keeping tension in it until you’ve reached kite - making sure not to get feet caught in lines.
@SAKitesurf3 жыл бұрын
If you have activated the quick release and the kite has flagged out correctly it will never power up again until you reconnect the chicken loop and feed the flag line back through
@ABCDEF-cx1ic3 жыл бұрын
Can I try this with a foil kite?
@SAKitesurf3 жыл бұрын
I have not tested it but you could try using the quick release with the flag line on the bottom not the top and then walk your way down the line to get to the kite. Try it in very light wind first. Let me know how it goes.
@nicolasboudet93023 жыл бұрын
@@SAKitesurf I did it several time with a large foil kite (15m2) with rather strong winds (20kts) It works quite well but you need large free room under the wind as the kite will move very fast from the side of the wind window to its center. You may try to run to a side position to limit the kite move. In addition with strong wind the foil kite will probably flight up and flap before stabilization, and you must go to the kite while fermly maintaining the front lines as it will not stay on land before being secured. Anyway it is more tricky that with a LEI kite which offers many other technics to self land, and stay on the landing position you choose!😎
@AKJammer13 жыл бұрын
That'll work if the wind is in the correct direction to have the flag line on top. If the wind was opposite, and you don't have a beach as nice and wide as this one, I don't see how it'll work. We don't have consistently same direction wind in our area, so I guess this will be good part of the time.
@SAKitesurf3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jim, remember you can always switch which side you connect your power lines, so just make sure that when you launch your kite the power line is on top and you should be good to go
@AKJammer13 жыл бұрын
@@SAKitesurf of course. Good point. I set up my lines consistently the same way every time that I didn't think of it. Thanks!
