Definitely a learning curve for me last Sunday night. Had a plan in my head but still daunting when you haven’t experienced putting a tent up and down in strong winds. Feel more confident with it now that I’ve done it.

Very good instructional video, Chris. Few video channels are taking you through this step by step. It is usually just showing that draw string being pulled tight as the tent is in the bag. Thanks for making this one. Many people will benefit from this including myself.

Good timely post Chris. I was up near Bettyhill last year around this time. Found a great site. Pitched my tent then went for a walk on the Beach. Happy days. However come 2am the wind got up. I was very thankful I’d pitched into the wind with all guys attached and the fly as low to the ground as possible. Absolute pole-bender. Unfortunately the couple in a camper with the pop-top up were not so lucky. They retreated at dawn with a huge rip to mend. Of course it’s not right to feel smug at the sight of another fellow campers difficulties. I didn’t but I was thankful I’d listened to the voice of experience bellowing in my ear to ‘pitch it right first time one time’ ⛺️

I went camping last night on a campsite in the hills of Hebden Bridge. The wind was brutal. Never known wind like it. It was my first camp. Very difficult conditions. It no joke. Please check your conditions before you go. I did it was supposed to be mild. I will go again but not so high up, I was in a jackal 3 and it managed well but a first bad experience.

Sounds bad mate! Practicing pitching / striking camp in wind is really advisable first. Will soon become muscle memory. It's all about thinking before doing if that makes sense, it's easy to rush and make panicked decisions when the weather turns brutal.

I've had a few tents escape into the sea at shell islands in the past 🤦‍♀️ infact 2 big 6 man ,3 room tents 😢 that island is a tent thief 😂. Great video Chris.

Proper adventure when the weathers bad isn't it. My last trip was in my Rab ridge raider wind was horrendous but the coffin held up well lol was a horrible night but I look back on it fondly for some reason.

Hi again Chris. I have a question about tents which I hope you can help with. I am thinking about upgrading and have narrowed my choice down to the fjallraven abisko lite 2 and the nordisk halland 2 lw. They're both tunnel tents and around the same price. The only thing that puts me off the nordisk is that they advertise it as a 3 season tent, the fjallraven is 4 season. As an owner of the halland 2 lw and the abisko lite 1 could you offer any advice? Do you own an abisko lite 2 and if so could you please do a comparison video? Thanks in advance mate. Love the channel.

I don't own a Lite 2 but Tom Heaney has done a great video on them. For me, despite similarities - they're pretty different. The Halland 2LW is superb but it's no more than 3 season. It is lighter and packs really small. Both are well made, but if you want it for the gnarlier months of the year, I would go for the Fjallräven. One thing to note though, I've recently tried to get a new inner for my Fjallräven Keb Endurance 3 and it was like talking to a brick wall - their customer service is awful. After almost 2 weeks, I just got a reply to say it wasn't possible to order one - that was that. I've had to order spare poles for my Nordisk tents and found their customer to be great - far superior to Fjallräven.

I have hundreds of Tcom aerostat inflations under my belt in Windy weather. Tents still worry me. Ha. Might try some windy weather some day. Cheers mate

I’m new to wild camping, I’ve got a cloud peak two tent and I’ve kept it as low weight as I can with a fire maple stove etc lbut my sleeping bag is a Berghaus 3 season is twice the size of the tent. Do you think I’ll get away with a 65 L rucksack for one or two nights.?

Absolutely...... Get a compression sack and compress the sleeping bag as much as you can. Enjoy.

Might help a few newcomers - I remember vividly when the goat let go of my NF Mountain 25 in a gust and it impaled itself on the camp site roof and tore to shreds at Braithwaite 😂
