I love this review. You got a free sample of the hardware wallet, you objectively evaluate it, including all the downsides, and then (optimistically) offer the affiliate link. I admire the honesty in your work and wish more KZbin reviewers took this approach.
@CryptoGuide2 ай бұрын
The funny thing is that I did some reviews that were quite negative (Ellipal, Tangem) and not only did folk still used the link to buy it, but the vendors also promoted it as well... So who knows ;)

absolute neewbie here - thanks for the video! i dont really understand why a hardware wallet should be safer, when everything is on an app with permission to do everything? for me it sometimes seems it´s nothing more than a hobby for most of people. talking about it, exploring new stuff, getting neat little items to play with.
@CryptoGuide26 күн бұрын
The simplest answer is that your PC/phone may have malware on it which tampers with transactions or straight up takes everything in your wallet.
@anamethatsnottakenalready26 күн бұрын
@CryptoGuide thx for the reply! Exactly my thought. But everything runs on an app, even your private keys.
@CryptoGuide26 күн бұрын
No, the private keys are running on the hardware wallet which runs very simple hardware/software and will only sign transactions, not share the keys themselves. A hardware wallet allows you to safely transact even if both the wallet and operating system you are using are malicious.

@@CryptoGuide on my app i have the option to show the private keys, even if the device is nit around O.o what about that card wallet? Its "just" a NFC chip.

Sounds like you imported your recovery seed straight into a hot wallet, completly undermining the point of having a hardware wallet...

Hey bro seen your comments on reddit, trying to find a few wallets atm. Tangem for the versatility daily wallet on the go, then thinking Trezor for pure btc storage, hodl. Those 2 options still solid? or whats your experience with your wallets what do u recommend / suggest. Not doing anything crazy. Just focusing on BTC for the biggest bag for sure eventually

What I would like to see is using multisig and experimenting with lowering transaction fees and maybe some hardware for engraving and creating backup DIY at a lower cost
@CryptoGuide2 ай бұрын
Multisig will always have higher fees as you need more signatures, this will be the case until signature aggregation becomes mainstream which is still a ways off. Things like stamping washers with 3d printed jigs is on the list of things to have a look at. :) The most cost effective DIY is still laminated paper ;)

Part of the issue here is that what constitutes "Open Source" can be a bit of a moving target, especially when it comes to the question of reproducible builds. (Which only became the expectation relatively recently) I would say that "It's probably fine" which is the most that you can say for anything that doesn't offer proper reproducible builds. It's also worth saying that in terms of licensing to allow other developers to reuse/build on it, this is actually *more* open source than something like a Coldcard... The marketing side is very frustrating, but is also unfortunately very normal...

I don't have a Ledger Flex 3. When you say you have more than one wallet, do you mean multiple accounts (which Ledger Supports) or do you mean multiple separate seeds that you want to use on the hardware wallet?
@chain_wizard2 ай бұрын
is it right to say that even trezor one is safer to create a new wallet of 24 words instead of a wallet like ledger or safepal or ellipal?
@CryptoGuide2 ай бұрын
Safer relies on many factors but basically you are placing much more trust in the hardware vendor doing the right thing with closed source options.
@YoinkMan6915 күн бұрын
Wait does that matter. What wallet you use to create your seed phrase ?
@CryptoGuide14 күн бұрын
The concert here relates to whether a closed source wallet can be trusted to generate a seed phrase. (That isn't compromised in such a way that would allow the vendor/others to access your wallet, etc) The simple answer is that it's probably fine, but this can't be proven using publicly available information.

Thanks for your comprehensive review & demo! Think I'll go with the Trezor Safe 5. It's double the price but love the functionality of it having a touch screen instead of the standard two buttons. I was just about to buy a Ledger Nano S Plus from JB hifi for $83 (plus shipping) before watching this. BTC is at all time high should I wait? Gold just dipped in price too. Maybe if Trump makes it into office safely the world will calm down and prices for PM's and cryptos will ease a little bit..
