I highly recommend the Scorpion brand !!! NO CONCUSSION SYMPTOMS! I had the Exo R410 with only first layer paint chips after I was hit going 80km/hr by a car who cut me off... flying over his windshield (that my helmet smashed) and then landing on the pavement which was a soft flat on my back landing (in other words a miracle). The back spoiler of the helmet has wear to the bottom from resting on the pavement I would assume. ***** Even though the medics didn't notice the emergency tab until I told them, the cheek pads came out without interfering with C-spine protocols! *****

RyanF9, you should go riding internationally (start with Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, China, and the Philippines!), visit gear & helmet shops, and review the gear that you find. Regarding helmets, Thailand has an industrial standard (TIS/TISI), so helmets made there tend to be much better than those made in Vietnam or China. FortNine would have subscribers from around the world, and your reviews would help improve safety in countries where the primary means of transportation for most families and businesses revolves around motorcycles and vehicles that are modifications of the motorcycle (grilled bananas or ice cream from a motorcycle sidecar, anyone?). If you want to come to Cambodia & Thailand, I'd pave the way for you.

I've got a Scorpion R410. Bought a closeout for $69. It's lighter than an older EXO-700 but the 700 just feels more comfortable and more padded. I will say that on a naked bike the 410 is way more stable. Best anti-fog in the business... period. Visor crack and lock is also nice. Definitely a great lid for the money. I always watch for closeout prices. I also own a Bell Star with a chromatic visor. She's the most comfortable but not great in cooler weather as it breaths regardless of having all vents closed. The Scorpion is way quieter also.

I recently bought the HJC 17 but last years model at a reduced price. No sun visor, but i got a black pinlock visor included in the deal and i love it. I got a cpl of Shoeis and Arais and this helmet is almost as nice as those to a forth of the price. My old Shoei XR1000 with a whisper kit is superquiet and feels 100% quality, still i prefer my Arai RX7 on those hot days or on the track. BUT, the HJC is my goto helmet for commuting and everyday driving. Comfy, fairly quiet and got DD rings, wich i see as a must on any helmet.

The 410 can be purchased in the US for well under $100. In the last year I have bought 3 of them (in a high-viz multicolor scheme, one for me and two others in different sizes for my dates) and the most recent one was $88 with free shipping. Fit and finish at least as good as my Bell R1s. Not as quiet as my Shoeis, but about the same as the Bells. Probably the best helmet you can buy if your budget is tight.

I prefer white helmet vs black or grey any day, but I still wear a visibility jacket as well in the dark - despite the average speed being about 30 km/ hour and the highest speed I have ever driven being just over 60 km / hour during a very short burst. Sometimes I wear a viz jacket during the day, but if I don't expect to come back after dark, I wear an orange one instead of yellow (both have the same wide reflective bands). Motorbikes have been the dominant transport until recent years and even today it is likely that the car owner coughs up if there is a crash - so car drivers are very aware of bikers and drive slowly - they drive slowly and often let the bikes go first at traffic lights - so I look odd with my viz jacket and gloves with light knuckle protectors and a helmet that is clearly thicker and heavier than local ones (complies to UK safety standards). The only people wearing viz jackets are commuting construction workers! I think things might change a little though: where I was laughed at wearing a helmet at all 8 years ago and people only grudgingly wearing them when wearing one became the law (not for passengers though, that became a law only 4 years ago - it's still common to see passengers without one, mainly because people are not aware of it as it is not reinforced by traffic police. That's how they learn the rules.) But now I see some even wearing motorcycle jackets, although I suspect they are more of a fashion statement than a safety garment and only soldiers and police duty wear any kinds of boots as part of their uniform. It actually makes sense: most people drive scooters or semi-automatic bikes which do not require lifting the gear lever at all, and in hot and humid conditions or during monsoon season when the water simply will fill in from the cuff unless (you'd have to wear fisherman's overalls with built in boots to avoid it) it is healthier to wear sandals or flip-flops. They are also easier to take off when entering people's houses and places of worship than boots. The only thing about flip-flops is that my foot can slip of the gear lever when it is raining, it has given me a few hairy moments.

For value for your dollar, Scorpion makes some of the best helmets out there, bar none. They offer affordable carbon fiber helmets, and many of their shells are composite fiber. A carbon helmet will run around $400 (around $200-$400 less than comparable helmets), and composite fiber shell helmets will run around $200. In addition, they provide premium fabrics, drop-down sun visors in many of their helmets, include air bladders to customize fit, and emergency cheek pad removal system like shown above. Simply put, they use innovative technology others don't. I've owned two Scorpion helmets, and had one in a crash, where my head hit the ground, and walked away with not so much as a headache. I don't see any reason why I would go to any other brand. They make excellent helmets, and are very affordable.

i highly recommended you check the Vozz helmet. it has no chin strap but instead it useing a split design with a hinge at top. not only allowing you to quick and easily take the helmet on and off. but if you are in a crash, paramedics can easily unscrew the hinge and locking mechanism and remove the front part of the helmet. which leave the back of the helmet under the head and leaves the head, neck, and spinal cord un moved. allowing them to treat any head injuries safely. plus it is Aus/NZ certified

Hey Ryan, I just had my first motorcycle accident last Monday. I was wearing the Shoei Neotec II modular full face helmet. A car didn’t see me and turned left in front of me in an intersection. Upon impact, I flew over the car and did a shallow header into the ground. Fortunately, I was completely uninjured, but my left front teeth did hit the inside of the helmet on impact. I was wondering if you could comment on the safety of this particular model as well as the safety of modular full face helmets in general compared to regular full face helmets? If facial safety is my new main concern, should I avoid getting another modular helmet?
@STho2056 жыл бұрын
I bought the Scorpion specifically because it got 4/5 on SHARP. It was on sale for $84usd, but unfortunately only in black (wanted silver). However I pinstriped it all over with 1cm reflective tape. Looks good and is very visible. I do wear a neon touring jacket. Good visor and the air channel goes right over the shield to defog and the shield locks down automatically, with a seal pop lever for stops. Cons: it is horribly noisy. Great ventilation typically leads to noise. The ear cups are not padded, just a little cloth on the styro and a big air pocket behind that area. Probably to install speakers on the more expensive model. My suggestion is to stuff some little foam into that cavity past the chin strap (use a spatula) and cut some fur pads for your ears cups (or foam if you're PETA). Noise drops in half. The check pads take forever to compress to your face. Wear the damned thing for at least 25hrs to get a good fit. The assembly is a bit off on some. Check yours to see if it is assembled correctly. The pads snap out and it is a China build, so sometimes they aren't properly snapped in. The chin/jaw EPS is supposed to be glued in but they use spray glue. If it is loose and wiggles when you pull on the cheek pads, then pass it up. All in all a good helmet, but I'd advise the ear mod or some squish earplugs (or both).

From what I've read and seen, I would trust the British standards over Snell any day. I have possibly the safest helmet.....a Suomy. The shell is less than half of what makes a helmet safer. The inside density and the crush rate of the foam liner determine how your head comes to a stop. The Suomy has a slightly softer density in the foam which slows the impact to your head.

Hey guys. Help me out if I’m wrong here, but from what I’ve read, no matter how safe a helmet is, it won’t get a Snell rating if it has one of the internal drop down visors, and I believe it has to have the D-rings. Which I hate. Love the ratchet system. Have any of you heard differently?

I have a £50 helmet. My strategy is that I don’t trust it and ride as defensively as possible. I take care. Is there a sense of invincibility if you wear all the best safety gear and have ABS and stability controls?

A scorpio helmet saved my life, so I will always trust them. Good vid!

Safe becomes unsafe at triple digit speeds. I've have many brands and Arai Corsair X is the hands down winner for airflow performance and protection. The Pista/Corsa R is the best for high speed aerodynamics.Scorpion is fine for commuters.

I can say an AGV k-3 is excellent. The thing quite literally saved my life. Who knows, had I worn anything else on my accident day, I could probably not be able to make this comment.

I'm not big on the neon helemts, but I do rock a high viz jacket. Ironically they were sold out of the high viz version of the helmet I bought anyway (EXO-R2000).

My mate was riding a bright blue ninja 250 and had a half yellow helmet, still didnt stop a bus from pulling out in front of him causing him to hit a traffic island, luckily his jacket and helmet saved any injury

I have the HJC IS-17, since this video came out it it obtained the Australian AS1698 rating.

About the HJC IS17, Used it for a year now and over all it's a good lid but the noise is ridiculous. Seriously. Only complaint other than that, it could move a bit more air through the venting. For the price you get allot of helmet. Just get good earplugs and away you go..

I bought the exo 410 based on this video... I love it. Great helmet for the money. I even got it in eye bleaching yellow.

You display remarkable professionalism and provide thorough explanations and excellent demonstrations. Also very personable and clear speaker. Thank you for your useful videos! I subscribed to you and also Yammie Noob for my prior-to-buying motorcycle research. :)

The AGV Corsa is the ONLY one with all 'green' impact spots (SHARP). $800 in the US. The Shoei is $240-ish. Is the savings worth the slight uptick to 'yellow' impact zones??

"And then they'll get it in black..!" Made me laugh out loud. I get the whole "Stealth," "Murdered Out Black" thing, but I've been wearing high viz yellow for 4 years and I haven't looked back. I must say that I generally don't know what most ratings are for. I am the layman 99%!

Jules-Frederic Nerestant hm yea but at daylight neon doesn't seem very visible, i saw a motorcycle driving towards me yesterday and i saw his headlight at day the whole time but only noticed his full neon helmet once he passed me. Better than black though. I bought a white one but i was looking for the same hjc is 17 with more red and white, was not available with though. What i really noticed though were those motorcycles with extra bright blueish light.

Don't need a neon helmet if you ride a candy red bike though...

@@nocensorship8092 From your perspective sir, what makes the most visible posible helmet for day only travel? Thanks 😊

you had not tested on riding with these helmets. I used to wear HJC IS70 . light wind from sides easily shaking your head. the sun visor is really dizzy comparing to cl17.

On a recent crash with my bike I hit my head against the window frame of a car with an entry-level, 6 years old, fairly worn-out (matte black, of course) modular helmet. I would normally expect not come out with all teeth and nose intact. Mainly because my helmet was open. Yeah, I believe in miracles. With the sudden impact, my helmet closed immediately and I hit the car with all protection that helmet could give me. BUT I would recommend you all, who don't believe in miracles to have a good, structurally sound helmet. Don't fall for price tags, but don't expect 'free meals' either. There is an optimal cost benefit there. If you hit hard enough, the best a super helmet can do for you is allow you to have a open casket funeral. Ride safe. Be seen. Be heard. Be predictable.

I have 2 sharp 5 star helmets, one 4 star and one 3 star. The obvious difference to me is the fit. The 4 and 5 stars grip the head better.

i really like that scorpion helmet. I will consider buying it when mine goes older. Hjc or shoei are just in every people head in my city. And id like to know why you forgot about arai or schuberth, or bmw. The only big accident i had it was riding an arai helmet. amazing.

In the 80's, I was a parts manager at a small Honda motorcycle dealership. My helmet studies led me to find that the safety ratings were basedon surviving a car crash, not a motorcycle crash . Has that changed?
@seductivesloth83735 жыл бұрын
That would be the DOT standard, which is why so many people consider that to be the bare minimum. Snell and Ece are much more thorough with their testing.
@jazztom867 жыл бұрын
there is one thing I don't understand. Why having ventilation you can open and close? Why not keeping it fix opened? It's not like there's coming so much air in that you're gonna freeze in winter. Also, I wasn't happy with the lock strap of the scorpion, so I changed it for a Nolan.
@solarfry2 жыл бұрын
Can you wear those buckets in summer in SO FLO or SO CAL? Or do they cook your brain? Does you hair get soggy and drip sweat? No matter how safe the helmet, if it cooks you brain it's useless and you will not wear it. Great ornament for garage...
