I saw a few of these last weekend at the Boogie and really liked the way they looked. When I got home I started looking for one.

To clarify, I am NOT suggesting that Tandem Instructors wear a chin mount. You will whack your students in the back of the head. The videographer is the one who could use this to get a close up of their tandem student. Further, these should be attached to the helmet, during takeoff. No need to add to the number of projectiles flying around the cabin during a wild moment.

Did the bracket get hit?

@@mikeodell5915 Hi Mike, I dont know what could happen, it was my second jump using camera, jump 202. The canopy opening was harder than the usual but not out of the ordinary either, I didnt want to take a look to the bracket until I landed cos like I said it was my second jump with camera, so I kept my focus on the the landing..to sum up..new go pro 8 lost and @Vmag at the moment aren't responding. They have basically disappeared

BUYER BEWARE: I read a few reviews and comments in various places where people talked about losing their camera. I thought they were edge cases until this weekend when my camera was pulled off of my helmet while doing an H exit with this mount. I watched as my hero 9 plummeted to the ground from 12,500 feet, never to be seen again. Don't be fooled into thinking these magnets are strong enough to keep the camera from coming off your helmet. They aren't.

Same here…lost mine today either during the exit or during RW. Won’t be using this mount again.

Do you think that you could lose the camera in case of bumping during exists?
@Brian-Germain4 жыл бұрын
Not that I have seen. I have been using it for quite a while and have not lost a camera. It is a surprisingly strong magnet setup at 90 degree angles to each other. Hence the name V mag. You have to be careful not to pinch your skin in there, they are quite sttong!

@@Brian-Germain Thanks! Because I have a new G4 and I don't know if it is better the Vmag or the GrellFab chin mount. What do you suggest?
@Brian-Germain4 жыл бұрын
@@alts88 I love my VMag. It allows me to pull it off whenever I want ro get a different shot, without removing my helmet. Just side load rhe camera and it comes off. Up or down is harder to remove, and might break the plastic. I also.find the Grell very hard to put on the helmet, and if the elastic breaks, the camera is gone. I say, Go VMag.

It can’t withstand a karate chop on exit. GoPro 11 gone. I liked the mount but I wouldn’t recommend using on close exits.

Hello Brian, is it ok to jump with only the chin mount base (without the camera part) on a tandem jump? Or you think it would still whack the students head
@Brian-Germain4 жыл бұрын
I think even the bare mount could hurt the student, unless they are wearing a helmet.
@Scarab324 Жыл бұрын
@@Brian-Germain I know so many skydivers who have lost their GoPro because the wind caught it and the VMag mount couldn't hold it anymore. The magnets couldn't hold it. Were stronger magnets used now or does the problem still exist today?

The problem I have with "snag hazards" related to gopro's is: if it was a serious issue, the fact its with a camera means there would be plenty of evidence. I found 4 videos of it happening over a decade, and only one was a self inflicted snag on a reserve (Bad luck + the camera broke free). Obviously its a snag hazard, but the risk appears to be extremely low - in the territory of fluke, and flukes could mean more than a line snag, what if a loop or bite wraps around your roller mount? you're done. A sticky mount and clip are not so strong a fit person couldnt rip it off or snap the clip, and as the resevre video shows, it snaps off anyways. I feel a sticky mount is safer provided the evidence, logic and personal experience with them failing easily.
