Bravo Mr Johnson. Thats a lovely clean build... Subscribed! Best wishes from the miniature armour bloke. ⚒🇬🇧🐭🐭🐭

Very neat. Did you make that, J.E.? The feed system is very innovative. Moving the workpiece into the drill, rather than moving the drill and its drive mechanism is a clever twist. But honestly, who would have thought of raising the workpiece by setting it on a screw jack and rotating the whole thing? That is out of the box thinking. I would enjoy seeing video of the other side of the drill.

I did build this prototype. This was kind of a proof of concept. I was never satisfied with the raising mechanism. The reason I went with this solution was so that the user could hold the work and raise the table at the same time. What I really wanted was some kind of foot control...

@@NewGottland A foot control would work well for feeding the workpiece. A lever system could be made that's pretty simple and give a few inches of movement with good leverage. Would you continue to keep the drill mechanism stationary, and raise the workpiece up into the drill? Or would you go with a more traditional set up with the drill mech being forced down towards the workpiece? The hand crank blacksmith post drills are sort of neat with how they advance the drill with a screw that's activated by the cranking. I always thought that that type of mechanism could be used in conjunction with a pedal crank power source. You can by old stationary bikes pretty cheap at yard sales, and it seems like it would fairly simple to build a scroll saw, or drill press onto them. Do you teach shop class to little kids? I have Randy Starr's book, he has some clever ideas for wood working with elementary school kids. I really like his treadle powered wood lathe.

I would love to make some of these for friends with kids. Any more info available on it?
