Safety Razor User Guide - If you have been paying a fortune to use a cartridge razor with 5/6/7 bladed everyday and wondering why you still get issues such as razor-burn, skin irritation, etc. you really need to consider making the change to a safety razor (frequently referred to as 'DE" of double-edged razor).
The safety razor makes the daily shaving ritual a pleasant, if not enjoyable experience, that wakes you up and prepared the chap for the day ahead.
Follow me in my morning shaving regime as I explain the benefits of shaving with a safety razor and how to achieve a truly fantastic shave.

Another advantage. DE blades can be recycled. Cartridge razors cannot

@@TheChapsGuide Very interesting guide, I started recently but was advised to use a Synthetic brush as it meant that no Animal was involved in the making of the brush. Modern synthetic brushes work as well if not better. Look forward to your next program.

I actually use more synthetic brushes than those of animal origin. I can recommend Yaqi brushes, which are great quality at a very modest price. But there is always a catch - the synthetic brushes are almost all exclusively manufactured in China, which throws up the ethicacy of purchasing items made in a state not renowned for great human rights, etc. If animal welfare is a major concern and China is a no-go, horse hair is a good option. The hair is painlessly harvested from living animals in most cases (some is taken from animals in the meat trade, but this can easily be established to assauge any moral concerns).

Thank you for all the videos about shaving. And I watched this one just yesterday, and what do you think, I cut into my lip. And I fully agree, it bleeds overwhelmingly good. 😁 But with the Alun block it was soon under control. It was a "nick" 2.2.

I have a safety razor on order because I've always suffered with razor rash. Hopefully it will be a better experience and I'll report back later.

I must admit that I do not shave every day, but I do use a safety razor. However, what I feel much more satisfying - every other week or so - is shaving with my cut-throat razor. It is just as easy, but the inherent danger of using the tool gives me a feeling of accomplishment that has much more worth to me than the shave itself.

Thank you so much for this video. I have never, ever managed to wet shave before without multiple cuts and loo paper all over my face , making me look like a collection of miniature Japanese flags. So, despite having a vintage Gilette safety razor, it was almost never used. Thanks to this video, I have shaved with it twice, without a single nick! I must've been pressing too hard before. Your comment about gravity was an epiphany.

Thanks for the update, its good to know that its helped you. Safety razor shaving is something of a skill and something of an art. Of course, a lot depends on your skin too, which is a variable which we cannot account for, but in general, it gets a lot easier and gives better results with more practice and time. Stick with it and the joy will come. Ash

That's a smorgasbord of fragrances there. :) Shaving cream, after shave, balm...and then another spray of cologne.

I don’t know why someone would go back to a cartridge razor after shaving with a double edged safety razor. It’s truly a life changing experience

Some observations. I've been shaving for 68 years. My father was blonde and had very sensitive skin, so he only used an electric razor which he started me with. I also tried a double-edged blade but found that the razor gave me cuts every time. In college I tried a single edged "injector" blade and it worked well for me though the blade are difficult to find now. I usually use a double bladed razor. The multiple bladed razors are excessive, and leave me feeling as though I am ploughing my face rather than shaving. After shaves and colognes with alcohol are antiseptic also. One guy in high school decided he was to busy to put on after shave and he got a rather nasty skin infection. I love a shaving cream applied with a badger brush (I think worth the expense). Cheaper brushes fall apart rather quickly. My badger brush has lasted for years. The ultimate, of course, is a straight razor shave by a barber, but that requires time and money. Great video. Shaving is a distinctly masculine ritual and a nice pleasure.

Good advice and a fair attempt to wean the younger generation off there multi bladed, techno, shave systems. Personally I enjoy a nice hot soapy face wash first, then a down, then up, then back to front to finish off. And a good splashy rinse in between. Absolutely right to reaffirm the importance of enjoying the act and the moment, an important aspect of being a chap. Regards Rob.

Thanks Rob, a good wet shave is one of my simple pleasures and has been an act of personal indulgence each day during the recent troubles. As you say, when a chore becomes enjoyable, then it is no longer a chore - I have recently achieved that nivana with shaving and I love it!

Thankyou so very much for this video as I own a safety razor, but am yet to use it. I shaved with a cartridge razor for the first time in a year yesterday (I normally just trim with my Remington clippers) using my soap and balm for the first time to very little success. Love the channel and keep up the great work!

Nothing beats the straight razor shave, but safety razor is a close second. Classic shaving is a must. Cartridge razors cost too much and are a much inferior shave..... a no brainer.

The below video was posted on KZbin 14 years ago. At the time, there were not many videos on KZbin in regards to traditional wet-shaving. I dare say this gentleman’s 3 part into to traditional wet shaving series brought the idea of shaving as a pleasure instead of a chore to quite a few chaps over the years including yours truly. Nowadays there are more traditional wet shaving videos than one can throw a stick at, but this below video was one of(if not the first) the first that started the trend: Note: the below link is part one of a three part series. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpvLeqxvp8yKh7c

Ok looking at all the styles of safety razor, what is the use of the comb of some razors? Love the videos, really helping me with the change of shaving routine. Thank you.
@TheChapsGuide
@TheChapsGuide 3 жыл бұрын
An open comb razor will usually offer a very close and aggressive shave and would best be avoided by the novice, closed comb razors are the better option if you just seek a pleasing daily shave. The comb refers to the leading edge of the razor (where the blade is revealed) which in some razors, has a distinctive comb effect.

I have been looking at the safety razor for some time, now I have to get one. I have been using an Schick Injector razor for the past 30 years and I love the way it cuts, if all goes well I may make a change or have an alternative when I'm in the mood for something different. I also appreciate the quick tip on skin care after the shave. Nicely presented, thank you.
