The Kennedy Family, and JFK in particular, have always been a fascinating group of people to study. The Kennedys are like an American royal family, full of success and tragedy. As a fan of history and shaving with vintage razors and other products, I decided to find out what JFK used to shave with. I turned up a couple of razor sets that JFK used during his lifetime. Both were in fine, gold plated travel kits befitting a man of his stature.
I found a Gillette shaving kit which was very similar to the first one that JFK used, only not as fancy. It's the same razor made during the same era in a travel kit that matches his.
Let's see what it was like to shave like a future President.
The razor: ebay.to/30a6ssB
The shaving soap: bit.ly/2vpD43r
The shaving brush: bit.ly/2GYBxsc
The razor blades: ebay.to/2E32mJh
The aftershave: bit.ly/2JdJwDG
The story of JFK's razor and how it was found: bit.ly/2Jvr9JG

I just realized that the second fancy set I show in this video is not JFK's, but another monogrammed set from that era. Oops! Also, I forgot to show the 1930’s shave kit that JFK bought. Dang!!

Those Gillette models are still the best tree piece safety razors ever made. Nowadays they can only mimic the geometry of those shavers. You can get a similar quality of shave with a Gillette Hybrid Tech and especially with a Gillette Bostonian. Great shave. Use that razor more often. It really is cool that you can buy these old razors and that they work as good as new. They are also relatively inexpensive too because they are "personal hygiene" products - not something many people are comfortable sharing. What I'm trying to say is... some of these razors that are in near mint condition could have belonged to men that died from TBC, Syphilis, Small Pox or the Spanish Flu! Was that too dark... Yeah, that was probably too dark... I apologise! Not really... ...trying to crash the market so I can buy a mint fat boy for real cheap.

I did not know Creed had a fragrance called Vetiver - i knew of their "Original Vetiver", which is supposed to be a ripoff of Thierry Mugler's Mugler Cologne - that all came out in the 2000's. Really leaves me wondering what the actual original smells like. Also, didn't JFK also use Eight & Bob as a fragrance? That's a big part of their marketing.

Wow, it came with license terms stating you can only use the razor with Gillette blades. I'm not sure when our modern laws about perpetual licences on goods came about, so that may have technically been binding at the time. That Feather blade would have opened you up to litigation for damages.

Just a question about the Proraso Green Aftershave: Does it smell like an old man type of scent, or can a 21 year old guy wear it too?
@SinatraLennon
@SinatraLennon 5 жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried the aftershave, but the shaving cream doesn’t have an old man scent. It could work for a young guy like you I think. It’s certainly better than something like Axe body spray!

Well Gillette wasn't in the razor selling business they wanted to sell blades which had a higher profit margin so that's why they wanted people to buy one razor and use it forever but also keep on buying the Gillette blades forever.

I'm afraid to say that if you went for a 3 1/2 or 4th pass, the razor didn't do a great job. Maybe the blade, but with a feather I doubt it.

IDK. Was the blade brand new?
@gorgosanma
@gorgosanma 5 жыл бұрын
@@ivermec-tin666 Well I must say it also depends on a few variables and the person who's shaving. In my case with a known blade it's usually 3 passes to achieve BBS, any more and the razor lacks, any less and it'll be my favorite razor. I believe that in the video he was using a new blade.
