As for the torture: your nerves can only send so much signals before they deplete. Also you'd psychologically also get used to the pain. That's why proper torture (I feel sick using such phrase) is done in intervals, so it's a "shock" every time, as neurons regenerate their pain-signaling ability...

Re: leaving food out. I usually do that after I'm done meal prepping for the week. I will take all the Tupperware of food and leave them on the counter until they cool down, usually only about an hour. Then I'll put em in the fridge. That way the fridge doesn't have to fight hard to return to operating temp. The ambient air brings the food from ~110° down to ~80°. Then the fridge can cool it the rest of the way more efficiently Also I should add, I'm white
@DustyQatun
@DustyQatun Ай бұрын
I do pretty much the same thing, though maybe I leave it out longer, I'll always get it put away before I go to bed, though. As well as making your fridge not work as hard it also cuts down on the amount of condensation inside the Tupperware.

Fastest way to melt butter: Long heated tray. Place the butter at one end. Use one of those concrete trowels to push it along and into the tray. Make sure the tray is hot enough to melt the butter instantly and then pushing it along means that the solid butter quickly touches new preheated metal. Like pushing butter around on the pan vs just leaving it in the middle and waiting. As an added bonus, you could have the tray on a slight incline and add a funnel shape to the bottom end so that the melted butter instantly drips into your bag of popcorn.

Some convention panels do livestreams and they're pretty nice to watch if you cant make it for whatever reason. Considering most of the time only some people from at convention even get into the panel, its cool to have a wider reach to the people who cant make it in. It doesn't have to have high production value at all, like a 480p live feed is fine

Depending on the time of year, some stuff would be left on the stove (turned off) overnight. If it wasn't a heat wave, then usually it was safe. Of course we're talking about brining food to temperature (during cooking or serving) and then it is left covered with a fitting lid to prevent any stray insects. I don't think there's much that can grow in 24h in something that was essentially sterilised. Of course you have to handle it properly, but we were kinda germophobic anyway xD
@MNbenMN
@MNbenMN Ай бұрын
I still avoid anything that's been left out for hours after cooking. Some foods come with bacterial spores present that do not get killed by cooking. Perfectly safe if eaten soon after, but if left to sit the spores can grow into full blown bacteria. For example, rice often contains spores of Bacillus cereus, which can cause reheated rice syndrome, which probably won't kill you, but messes with your guts.

I’m actually shocked yall didn’t come up with the obvious answer to the butter question. You gotta use one of those hydraulic anvils they use for large scale metalworking. One blast of a hammer with a head half a meter wide would deform the butter to extremely high surface area and minimal cross sectional area immediately, and the pressure would conduct a ton of heat into it immediately. You can get a nail red hot with just a few strikes of a normal human wielded hammer on an anvil, that butter on a hydraulic anvil would be liquid in a single strike, especially if you had worked hot metal on it moments before.
@bolivianPsyOp

I would make cast iron molds into various shapes and then a press. The cast iron will be cherry red, butter inserted, press flat to get the most surface area. Say 1/16” gap. Molds doesn’t have to be perfect, just seal in some way. Maybe walls and then the top mold is just a press. Like a mussubi maker thing. I would also test a vacuum chamber, depending on what constitutes time. Like if you don’t count pulling the vacuum. If I crowdsource funding for materials can I submit this to open sauce? This doesn’t sound too hard

I'm very white (and American), and I put leftovers away after a day, sometimes 2. I'll have a nibble later, or eat it for lunch. Or leave it and get to it it the next day. And it's mostly due to laziness. Never had a visible issue that seemed related to consuming leftovers. Edit to add: I did have a bad dip experience. When I got my first job I had no money until that first paycheck, so I lived on french onion dip for a week. Somewhere in the week it went off, and I was quite ill from it. For 20 years I couldn't eat french onion dip, but now I'm back to loving it.
