To your question about finished ryes, I think rye whiskey has more flavor directions than bourbon which makes finished ryes generally more interesting than finished bourbons; which most just stay in sweet profiles.

I went to a tasting yesterday and thought this one was really really good. All of what they brought was good. The rep Dan was a super nice guy. I took home their CS variety. That was the winner for me. Great brand.

This is my first foray into finished rye. I'm way more of a bourbon guy, but this bottle is delicious. Being from Maryland, I am glad to support Sagamore, but in all impartial honesty this rye is outstanding. I enjoy the raisin, candied apple fruit flavor. I'm partial to higher proof bourbons, so the smooth subtle rye finish nibble fits nicely into my wheelhouse. Sounds like you agree, Jason C.

I love Sagamore! My local liquor store has a barrel pick, cask strength rye from them for $24 a bottle, I’ve bought five of them and it is a winner.

I had the opportunity to taste the Sagamore Rye Tequila finish and it was good and indeed very interesting. And I like sherry finished anything, after all, I like sherry itself very much lol!

Their port finish of a few years ago was the first whiskey I pursued around town. I killed a bottle pretty quick, then realized I might not be able to find another. If the sherry finish is as good I’ll buy at least two.

I agree that finished rye is better than finished bourbon. I think the sweetness and overall flavor profile of bourbon doesn't always lend well to being finished in other types of barrels.

I got a present from my brother in law Sagamore sherry finish rye. Unfortunately I realized that seal was broken and cork was half way up. Inside the neck of the bottle had a stain and looks like some whiskey was evaporated. Wondering if this a production quality defect or somebody opened the bottle or this bottle was outside on the sun. I plan to return this bottle to the store, but not sure if they will take it back or replace the bottle

Totally agree Rye handles finishing much better. Bourbon tends to get too sweet and syrupy.

There's something in sherry that reminds me of the notes I despise in soju and in south Vietnamese rice wine. Tried to learn to enjoy sherry in Spain just prior to covid, but failed miserably. Genetics?

Have you tried driftless Glen rye Store pick, cask strength. Buy or pass? Was this sagamore better over the rum cask finished? Can't see myself spending 125 for mid winters this year.

While proof isn't everything for everyone... Don't get a low cask strength driftless glen. I had one that was like 51% at cask strength and one that was like 59%. Night and day, higher proof was sooo much better

Sagamore is the poop man cask strength was great need to cop a bottle of this stuff good review thanks for sharing. I have a bottle of the regular stuff too have not cracked it yet but the cask strength is on point for me.
