Ooohhh a short on how to bypass the alternating shot button lights indicating a cleaning cycle would be FANTASTIC. It's the most frustrating thing about my Bambino Plus. I didn't have five minutes to wait and I could have just cleaned it when I got home but it wouldn't let me skip that and pull a shot/ steam

Duo Temp is a much older model than the Bambinos. Just upgrade the Portafilter and Tamper on the Bambino and it's far superior in my opinion. The 3 second heat-up time is soooo nice when you're in a bit of a rush before work in the morning.

@Cyborgon no, I'm happy with the Bambino Plus. I just appreciate this straightforward, kinda 1:1 review/ comparison. I had to spend a lot more time to get this info from separate vids. This is something I can just send people now as a direct comparison when they start asking me what I think they should get.. the duo temp was on major sale a bit back and someone had a budget who doesn't need auto milk frothing, and doesn't mind a couple minutes longer could be perfectly happy with it.. i actually appreciate the slightly smaller footprint and higher energy efficiency of the Bambino Plus.

My water doesn't sit for days. I didn't realize just how much water I would go through when I got my bambino plus. Warm-up shot, actual shot, purge/cleaning shot. So, three shots, minimum, when I turn on the machine. And I make six shots a day. Plus steaming and purging. I fill it every other morning, at least. So I apricate the 1.9 liter tank on my bambino plus. As for the water out of the steam wand. I ordered mine on back stock about three months ago and had to wait for a few weeks for it to come in stock yet mine still dispenses water. However, I still use a kettle. Why, the water is slow to dispense, eats away at my small water reserve and it simply isn't very hot unless you let out a fair bit more water than you need. The drip tray, well, it is awful. I don't care how good it is locked in it, water gets on the counter from underneath where the 3 way valve empties if any water at all is already in the tray. I need to empty it after every use. I don't think it is leaking, it just flushes the valve really, really hard. Breville machines drive me batty in one sense, this think tells me when to backflush etc and really, I don't need my hand held for that. If it is 6am, I want my coffee. I will backflush after and do a cleaning cycle later in that day. But no, I can't do that. I know people say that you can skip it temporarily but mine won't let me. Others on reddit say the same thing. That said, I like the overall package. It is quick to heat, has a small footprint, and doesn't look bad. I can make pretty good shots repeatably, and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. One thing I can note is that I actually like my Breville basket better than the generic "precision" basket that came with my bottomless portafilter. I like it better than the IMS too. It really isn't better, per se, but it is way less finicky. If I had to do it again, I might do things differently. If I wanted an entry level machine that I knew I was going to replace, I'd get a Delonghi 3420 and hack the wand with a zip tie. Way cheaper. If I were recommending to a friend, who is not a coffee nerd but just wants repeatably good coffee, I'd suggest the Barista Pro based on specs. Built in grinder, all the features of the Bambino Plus that I have, and adjustable temperature. Particularly since most of my friends live in Europe and counter space comes at a premium (in my experience). But, for myself, if I stuck with Breville I think I'd go directly to the dual boiler and pair it up with something like the Niche or Specialita. Speaking of doing it all over again, I will be moving country (again) in about 7 months and will, in fact, have to do it all over again - fun. Ascaso Duo is tempting, but I dislike volumetric. The profitec go seems appealing too. So many choices. Anyway, Kev, good video as always. Looking forward to when I can actually order some coffee. Bit far at the moment.

Bambino Plus X Niche Zero is my setup and it's such a breeze with the addition of a scale in the workflow. I can make a cortado, everything purged and wiped and rinsed then be out the door with my face washed and fully dressed 10 minutes after I wake up... then practice my latte art on mornings when I'm taking my time or making drinks for coworkers to practice pulling shots and steaming milk. It's also fun to experiment on the weekends

I'm very new to espresso brewing, but I've had the Bambino (regular) for a couple months now, and make a coffee with it every day, and I have NOT been able to create decent latte art with it. I'm confident the problem is me (especially after seeing you appear to do it effortlessly). I've watched hundreds of videos on how to properly texture and pour for latter art, and hundreds more on "what you're doing wrong", and still I find my milk (despite appear to be like white paint), failing to run across the surface of the espresso. Instead it just runs to the bottom (even when I'm millimeters from the surface, and tilting like all the videos show). I feel like I must be texturing wrong or something. I don't know if it's relevant to your channel, but given that this is a relatively popular starter machine, I wonder if you'd consider showing your process for preparing your milk using the regular Bambino (many tutorials tend to use much bigger, more advanced machines that steam the milk in seconds) - I suspect this machine takes a little more effort.

I’ve had the bambino plus for about 3 months now. It’s a big step up in espresso quality from the nespresso we used prior. We don’t need hot water so that’s not a big deal for us. The big draw of the plus is the semi auto experience overall. My wife and I use it daily to make lattes and this is probably as manual an experience as she would be willing to do. So it’s a good compromise for us.

I have had my Duo Temp Pro for about 5 years. It still works perfectly. But I will order another whilst they are still available, to keep as a back up. You can make a cappuccino in 3 or 4 minutes. And I like the weight factor. It is much more stable than the light weights. Since typing the former, I ordered another one. And I keep the water tank full, by adding to it via the lift up top on the water tank. Each time I make a coffee, I add another cup full. So, the water is not in the tank for very long, if you use the machine daily. There is no need of ever lifting up the water tank to fill it.

Very helpful comparison, thank you! You asked for people's experiences. I purchased a Bambino Plus and loved it - until it stopped working. Couple of things to note regarding the Bambino Plus: I did like the automatic features of the Bambino Plus, though I found the dialling in of a set volume for a double espresso didn't work as promised. If I want an Americano, I want the machine to fill my mug, but I could never set the double shot to more than half-fill the mug. So, I'd then have to boil water separately to fill the mug. (I note the Duo will continue pouring until you stop it - is that correct? That's more what I want). The Bambino Plus "died" after less than 3 months. I started noticing the milk frother would stop steaming before it was properly finished, when the milk was only luke warm. The lights would often flash when this happened. I always used bottled water in the tank, and always cleaned the wand straight after use, so couldn't figure out why I was having problems so soon. I did take it apart to properly clean it, but found it was actually pretty clean. Anyway, a few weeks later, the milk frother just wouldn't do anything - I'd press the button, and .... nothing (not even flashing lights). Luckily, Amazon were very good about returning it for a full refund and I have been looking at the Duo as a likely replacement (especially as Amazon currently have it for £300). I just need to watch a couple more videos and read a few reviews before hitting the "Buy" button. The larger size is a bit of a downer (not much counter-space in my kitchen), but first-world problems and all that. I enjoy your videos - they seem made for people like me. I'm a coffee enthusiast, and don't mind tinkering to get a decent cup, but I don't want to be obsessive about it. Some other coffee channels are way too "serious" for me, but each to their own.

It's a great little machine for the caravan as the fast cycle times use less battery power (when using the 240v inverter) than other machines. Mine does dispense Hot Water via the steam wand. Just raise the steam wand and then press the one cup and the froth control buttons simultaneously until water starts to flow. You can now release the buttons The machine will dispense hot water until you stop it by pressing the 1 cup button again.

Sorry forget to mention that. I got the Bambino Plus. The shots don't taste as nice as my Breville dual boiler (still nice enough) . The milk comes out very nice when steaming manually (good enough for some Latte art) and it steams quickly. You'll need to boil some water if you want long blacks though as the hot water only comes out at about 65 degrees C when dispensing from the machine. Very happy with it for the caravan, although I do pre-grind my beans before I go away. I only have a small van and fitting all the coffee gear in is a bit of a squeeze. Biggest problem I found when taking it away is, once word gets out you have an espresso machine, you'll discover friends you never new you had.😃

@Coffee_Kev
@Coffee_Kev 8 ай бұрын
They both have 15 bar pumps, most vibration pumps are 15 bar, it's the OPV which is set to 9 bar, which just fires off the excess pressure above that, and it's 9 bar on both the DTP and Bambino Plus.

@Coffee_Kev
@Coffee_Kev Жыл бұрын
It does have an OPV, are you talking about the lack of a solenoid valve? If so, it's just that solenoid valves are better at expelling all the pressure and moisture in the basket after each shot, so you usually get slightly drier pucks when knocking the pf out, also if you choke the machine (too fine a grind) you need to give it a few seconds for the brew valve to release the pressure, or you may have a bit of portafilter sneeze. On the plus side it does mean that the small drip tray is more practical, as you get rid of more of the moisture in the puck when knocking out, so the drip tray doesn't fill as quickly.

Thanks for the video! I only recently started my espresso journey and bought a second hand Dedica 685 which I use with the pressurised basket. I'm really enjoying my coffee journey so wondering what you coffee botherers would suggest as an upgrade. Should I go minimal - bottomless porta on the 685 with a half-decent grinder? Or upgrade to something easily fixable like the Gaggia classic/pro? I love the look of Sage machines but the expense of upkeep (filters and maintenance) is a con for me as well as the fact that when it dies out of warranty you pretty much have to buy a new one.
@IcefeatherCoffee
@IcefeatherCoffee Жыл бұрын
Get yourself a grinder first. The sooner you get rid of those pressurized baskets, the better. I would suggest a hand grinder like the 1zpresso J-Max because you get much more value for your money. If funds are tight, consider the Timemore C3; it's quite a bit cheaper but opens up the world of REAL espresso and actually tastes very good. However, if you must have an electric grinder, consider the Baratza Encore or Fellow Ode; both are great options for not too much money. But if you don't mind a hand grinder, that's the way to go in my opinion. Even the Dedica can make quite good shots with a real basket and a good grinder. I recommend getting the grinder first and a bottomless basket for the Dedica, then consider getting the Gaggia Classic later on when you have a suitable grinder like one of the ones I mentioned above.

My girlfriend has a Duo Temp and I have the Bambino Plus. I'd vote for the Duo Temp any day - I know how to get good coffees and the *_silkiest_* milk from the Duo Temp. My Bambino Plus has a mind of its own and shuts down of its own accord. Just today I did a clean cycle, descale and filter change. What a palava - the cycles were so inconsistent. And - oh, yes - good luck with trying to a good silky milk foaming for a flat white with the Plus - it's piping hot before you've had a chance silk it up - ends up as 'satiny' at best. And I know that one day soon it will give up the ghost in a year or two and will become landfill with no chance of fixing.......

Just press the single shot and milk froth buttons simultaneously for 80c water from the wand 👌 I can highly recommend this machine. I use it on manual with an upgrade to the bottomless portafilter. Dialling in and having to regularly empty the dip tray are arguably its biggest drawbacks, but then it doesn't take up much bench space and experimenting is half the fun.

If you're in the UK or NI and you want this FREE... : Stick your name in the hat to win the Duo Temp Pro & Smart Grinder Pro. upvir.al/147851/lp147851 - Winner will be announced at the end of June. A few notes. Firstly, filling the water tank, it sounds like I'm suggesting filling the water tank for every individual coffee, noooo ;-), I didn't mean that, I was suggesting filling it fresh whenever you come to use it for the first time each day. I was just pointing out that I don't really think water tank size is all that important. Dispensing water on the Bambino Plus, see: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqeqfXSIpZ6mfdU - it does seem to work on most versions. Solenoid Valve. I was wrong about that, it doesn't have one. I know it didn't initially have a solenoid, but the one I purchased recently came with a blank disk and instructions in the manual to backflush it, so I just assumed they'd changed that. I did some testing and it's clear that it has the same or similar brew valve as the Bambino. So my advice is to ignore the manual, don't backflush, just flush the group and wipe the shower screen.

I bought a B+ less than a month ago (I've reason to believe it's a recent build). It absolutely _does_ make hot water. *BUT* it sulks if you don't pull out the wand. In other words, you can't dispense water straight down-you gotta send it into the cup at an angle. Perhaps this is why people think it can't do it? They're not pulling out the wand?

Bambino Plus gives you hot water by pressing Single cup + Steam button at same time. The steam temp gauge will light up and hot water will dispensed

Seen so many Bambino Plus reviews where the reviewer doesn't know this and I cringe at the misinformation every time. Edit: My bad. I guess this feature was removed 🤨

@@Imabanana847 I do know 😆 I mention it in the video, at 3:19, and I've put a card in, to my video about that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqeqfXSIpZ6mfdU. It doesn't work on the current model, though, they tweaked the firmware - on the current version that's out in the UK, not sure about models in other countries.

Nice, funny video! If I am not mistaken, the Bambino Plus can provide hot water by pressing a combination of buttons.

I love the size of the Bambino’s and the auto froth on the plus would mean my wife would be able to make me a cappuccino… but…. They look like they slide all over the counter which is very off putting 🤷🏻‍♂

It's really not too bad. You just get used to placing one hand on the top when rotating the thingamajig. [Edit: portafilter! I knew I'd remember the word after I'd posted].

I wish the Bambino plus was as beautiful as the duo temp is. I love the way the duo temp looks 7:17 7:21, the bambino look like a small cheap machine without being cheap at all 😂

A full water tank on my Bambino Plus only lasts about 3 days. I pull a couple double shots and make sure everything is cleaned and flushed and I usually make lattes so I'm also using steam and sometimes make a cup of tea using the hot water from the steam wand, and then steaming the water to heat it up to the right temperature to make a cup of tea. All in, to make a cup of tea it takes less than 2 minutes... so far faster than getting a kettle out. My Plus was brand new from BREVILLE and they were out of stock even i contacted customer service so I believe it's the newest NORTH AMERICAN model and it definitely allows for hot water from the steam wand. I just cannot figure out how to bypass the cleaning cycle to make a latte without waiting 🥲

Yeah I actually think most versions do have have the ability to dispense hot water, it just seems to be the occasional one that doesn't appear to work, I supect there was just one firmware version at some point that didn't have this option.
