Six weeks ago, I ruptured the exact same sagittal band you did. Was able to see a hand surgeon the very next day and he put me in a ‘buddy splint’ which is not like the molded brace *you* have but just as effective (he says). As of yesterday, I’m out of the splint, but for the next two weeks, I still have to wear it while I sleep, and was given specific instructions NOT to make a tight/closed fist. Doctor said the name-of-the-game at this point is to ease back into daily activities slow and easy over the span of several weeks. For what it’s worth - I asked the doctor if that sagittal band would be MORE likely to cause trouble in the future, or would it heal stronger and be LESS likely to cause problems later on. He said it SHOULD heal stronger and be less likely to rupture again!

Hello, I hope you are in good health, are you recovering from the injury and can you hit the boxing bag?
@MikeInExile2 жыл бұрын
@@DQ_BW >>>> "...are you recovering from the injury..." Well, it's now three years on, and I'd say it's _almost_ 100% back to normal. I say 'almost' because every now and then, I get a little achy in that area reminiscent of the original injury. It's not often enough or bad enough for me to do anything about it -- I just consider it a reminder not to lunge at falling objects (which is what I did to cause the original injury). >>>> " ...and can you hit the boxing bag?" I don't know -- I never had much interest in doing _that_ kind of workout! I can still hit the _bar_ though! ;-)

Hello from a new subscriber. I’ve done the exact same thing! I was shaking off some pond weed and the pain in my hand was so bad. I have a splint now that I have to wear for six weeks. The plastic covers my palm as well as the middle finger and I can’t wait for things to get better. I’ll look through your videos to see your result, if there isn’t an update, would you post it soon please? I play guitar and it’s depressing to not be able to at the moment. 🇬🇧👋🏻

I tore the saggital band of left ring finger about 5 months ago. I was typing, of all things, and got the excruciating pain up my arm. I saw my orthopedist who sent me to the hand surgeon. I wore the custom bridge splint for 8 weeks, but in the end had to have surgery. Surgery was a week ago today. I have my first post-op visit tomorrow. I can't wait to get back to the bridge splint again and start therapy. I hope your injury healed without surgery. Saggital band tears can also happen due to wear and tear in hands that have rheumatoid arthritis, which appears to be a possibility of why I developed the tear.

Tore mine in the middle finger of my right hand by flicking. Was immediately splinted and I am now 5 weeks post-injury. I'm no longer splinting except to sleep. I was told to take the next 3 weeks to ease back in to bending and doing "normal" activity. Dr. expects a full recovery.

Watched your video, injured my middle knuckle, it was bad. I could see my middle tendon go off to the side every time I close and open my fingers. I injured it during a jiujitsu tournament Dec 18, 2021. After watching videos I did similar splint a week later for 6weeks but I extended it to 8weeks. It worked for me. My finger is about 80% back to normal. Slowly strengthening it back to 100%. Thank you for your video (and other KZbin vids) I was able to do it without surgery! Hope this will help others

Dead Faces I’m not a doctor but if it’s 3 weeks you should be ok. I honestly thought the same especially after waiting almost a month and a half. I’ve had other major surgeries like ACL reconstruction on both knees. But I’m pretty confident if it’s just the band you’ll be fine with the cast.

How did you wash your hands, take a shower, etc., while wearing the splint?
@Textile_Dude6 ай бұрын
The splint was plastic so getting it wet in the shower was not a problem. I was allowed to take it off to wash my hands as long as I was very careful not to contract the injured finger.

Hi, thanks for your great video. During the 6 weeks, was your knuckle sore to the touch? And what sort of things were you allowed to do with that hand? Thanks!
@Textile_Dude5 жыл бұрын
Yes a bit sore for the first week or so. Only if I pressed hard on it. I was very careful not to use the hand at all for the first couple weeks, then I slowly started using it a bit, but never for actions that required forceful finger extension, more like palm up carrying a glass or plate. Worst was trying to tie boot laces. Had to be careful about pulling.

I can still move mine but it is painful ? So I can’t figure out what’s wrong
@Textile_Dude3 жыл бұрын
Well for me, I could see the tendon jump from the center to the side of the top of my knuckle when I curled my finger in, and if there was even the slightest bit of resistance I could not straighten the finger out without the tendon pulling to the side and a LOT of pain.
@MRblondeGames2 жыл бұрын
I think I have done this, my tendon slips off to the side but it’s not painful at all just uncomfortable when it slips? Apart from that and the bruising my hand feels normal? Does this mean I haven’t injured it as bad?

great video, had the same injury as you this past april and with early splinting was able to avoid surgery. though my hand isn't like 100% how it use to be pre-rupture , daily tasks are no problem. was told that scar tissue takes about 6 months to soften up in your hands and that has been true for me. days where i use my hands more i do notice the next morning i wake up a little stiff in the hand but after making a few fists i'm fine. Not sure if this was discussed by your doctor but Vitamin C is important for the healing process, as it is the main component of connective tissue.

Great video and unfortunately now going through the same injury. Was this a complete tear or a partial tear of the tendon/band? Doc says a complete tear has a slim to zero chance of recovery without surgery. Hope you can give me some hope. Thanks.
@Textile_Dude4 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry I really don't know for sure. The tendon would completely slide off to the side of my knuckle so it was a substantial tear for sure but I don't know if it was complete. Sorry. I am back at 100% though.
@lyoung12214 жыл бұрын
I’m now 4 weeks in wearing splint. The pain is gone but still partially swollen and sore if I press down form on the knuckle area. Did you have trouble lifting your finger at this point or even at the 6week finish? I can extend and straighten the finger at will but can’t fully raise it up. It feels shaky and weak but maybe I’m just getting ahead of myself.
@Textile_Dude4 жыл бұрын
@@lyoung1221 I tried to avoid doing any lifting of the finger until doc told me to. So I can't really say or remember how it felt at 4 weeks. Even after 6 we transitioned to only wearing splint part time and taping the finger to its neighbor. I don't think he had me lift my finger against him providing resistance until at least week 8 or even week 10.
@lyoung12214 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. The splint obviously limits my finger to only a few movements such as straightening and relaxing etc. Guess I’m just getting ahead of myself tempted to lift it just a bit higher upon extension. Feel better seeing now this is a goal that is attempted after 6wks.

I think I will be good. For the last 2 weeks no splint. My finger has been lightly taped to the index finger to stop it deviating towards the pinky too much. I see the doctor today and that should be the last visit. No more tape even. He said he is really pleased with the healing. I can make a tight fist and the tendon is stable over top of the nuckle. We will see long term once I start playing keyboard in earnest again. But I am optimistic. :P Thanks for asking about it :D
