nah...nothing special in that, kalex has been renowned as chassis specialist for a long time and their works are-proven. it's honda that desperate rn and hope that the chassis from kalex will works.

@@Jonesie170 chills...Im no expert but saying its a huge honor for them to make chassis for HRC is kinda like saying a huge honor for brembo because HRC using their brakes or ohlins because HRC using their suspension 😅 it's just something that happen in motogp race, kalex has been making frame, arm and the likes for a long time and honda has been using their support in moto2 for years. so its only natural that honda trusted them to research new chassis in a time like this. just wanna pointed that. but sorry if my opinion offended you.

because the video is call How is Kalex "Chassis" made. I would guess the swingarm is made the same way, billet pieces welded by hand to extruded beams that a bent to shape.

Did the chassis not get heat treated and aligned after welding?

Heat treating is not done after welding on alu chassis anywhere as far as I know. At a guess, this would be one way of controlling flex without fatiguing a joint by being too hard/ brittle. Alignment would def be checked, but would it be needed? Front and rear sections are billet, once its been placed in the welding jig, it does not get removed until all welding is complete, and cooled to room temp. I would say that the chance for misalignment would be very small. Also, they may not wish to show the public howe they ensure close tolerances at a high level. Shhhh, secret lol

@@donr62 to my knowledge, correct. I've never seen any high end aluminium alloy heat treated and normalized, regardless of purpose. I doubt very much that Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki or Yamaha are spending that amount of time on their road bike chassis.

If Honda GP bike is finally successful with the Kalex chassis they should be smart and develop a partnership road bike, a Fireblade with Kalex Frame or something like that. It'd quickly become the most famous/iconic bike of the last decades.

Great idea but I couldn't afford one. Honda did make the street legal moto gp bike for the general public but I couldn't afford it either. The pistons only lasted so many hours and the cost to rebuild was astonishing. Awesome concept tho.

The frame is still using the false concept of the cut through join, when research from other industries use a stepped join to reduce flex and weld impact of the overall integrity of the frame . This is why the new super glued spunthread carbon 3D printers will change the game .

If u look at all production Lotus chassis they are bonded together from extruded parts. Also if bonding is good enough for the outer CNC'ed skins to attach to the rest of the Airbus wings it does make u wonder it it may have some advantages for Kalex , it might be that its impact resistance in a barrel roll would not be as good in a bonded structure ?

except that bikes need flex in a horizontal plane. That's why the frame is shaped for only/mostly vertical stiffness, same with the swingarm. Once a bike is leaned over, the suspension no longer responds the same as when upright, the forces placed on it changes the more it is leaned over. So in order to still have a readable and predictable chassis at full lean, a bike chassis and swingarm requires some amount of horizontal flex to account for the lower efficiency of the suspension. This is why you will hear GP teams complaining in pre season testing about front end chatter that they can't tune out. It's not the suspension, and usually not the tires. It's the chassis flex is either too little or not enough.

Well, I am disappointed in this video. They go form a CNC made part, I'm assuming is the head stock to one part a spar on a cart, to the entire frame assembled and welded on in like a few seconds....not nearly specific enough...lazy.
