Daniel Germano - I have no objection to the 10-finger grip as long as it is fundamentally sound and the handle is properly positioned in the fingers and not the palms. A poor grip causes a host of problems including losing control of the clubface, creating tension, and activating the wrong parts of the body at the wrong time. Here's a video I did recently on the grip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nV6ypphofryVmpY. Also, if you'd like to get on the fast track for what I teach please consider the SagutoGolf online school as it is one of the best golf instruction values out there. Tom, I'm 72 years and play decent albeit inconsistent golf. Prior to this vid I was shooting in the mid eighties. After watching I went to a nine hole course and by concentrating on pointing my left shoulder to the ball and turning my torso I was hitting the ball longer and straighter. I shot 38 (two over par). If not for my subpar short game I could have scored better. The next day I played this course again and shot 35 with an eagle on a par 5! My goal is to shoot my age and I think that is now possible. Thanks, and continue using the KISS method of instruction. "Keep it simple stupid"⛳️. 🏌🏾

This is the "tip" that left my swing at some stage of my life resulting in my powerful consistent semi-pulls with irons for many years. I was 5 handicap once and probably did the "tip" unknowingly when I was young. I only read this now and tried a few sponge balls on the sitting room carpet. Eureka, I know how to hit down the line again. All it took was a little bit extra effort of will to get my left shoulder to point at the ball. I just know it will work on the golf course next weekend. Thanks Major Tom. PS: Have you any " tip" to remove scorch marks from a carpet. I want to stay alive till next Sunday.
@SagutoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Well, M P Downes, at least it just a scorch mark and not a divot. A scorch mark you may be able to blame on a pet; carpet divots need to be covered by furniture otherwise the obituary is almost certain to follow. 😆 I'm very glad to have reconnected you to your past glory days through this video lesson, and I hope it plays out well for you next weekend!! Tom, I was waiting for you to put up a new video to post this. I only discovered your channel this week when your video "You've been swinging the club WRONG your whole life" popped up on my timeline. I watched that video with a lot of skepticism and I have to tell you, I've been binge watching your videos all week and you are ABSOLUTELY right. I watched one of your older videos yesterday where you talked about how you felt about the stack and tilt method, your struggles and how this method restored your game. After struggling with a deteriorating swing and game for the last several years, I finally broke from "traditional" swing theory and tried your method. HOLY SHIT...what a difference. Your methods have fixed my driver, almost completely removed the vicious snap hook that my 5 iron produced regularly and I'm hitting the ball better than I have in decades. I've realized that through your videos that there are just too many variables in the traditional method and if you're not playing every day and hitting 1000 balls it's almost impossible to hit it constently. Hell, even if you are it's almost impossible. This method is sooooo much simpler, so much more straightforward and so much more logical. You've fixed, in a few videos, what I thought was going to take the entire summer and you did it in two video. My God what a transformation. I can't thank you enough.

You still are, you need to load ur back foot on the way down to make u rotate properly. Saguto loads his front leg, which pops his hip violently up; it will ruin his back in the long run. Check out Golfletics' youtube channel for more insights.

Not sure about keeping the weight on the lead leg during the backswing. Watching the swing, it’s clear the lead leg is bent on the backswing and then loaded right before the backswing is completed. Look at the illustration of Arnold; his left foot is on the ball of his foot during the backswing.

@Silver Fox, The golf swing is indeed overly complicated in particular by one part of the human body - the brain and all the swing nonsense and misguided instruction it has been fed. Garbage in, garbage out; and countless golf swings have sadly been trashed as a result. This is not saying that golf is "easy" as it most certainly is anything but. However, the perceived and overstated complexities of the swing itself can be greatly simplified to convey motions that are body-friendly and physiologically sound, and which simultaneously and effectively harness physics and geometry to produce a most satisfying and long-lasting experience. That's what my instruction style is rooted in, and I'm very glad to know that it is resonating well with you! Cheers! Tom

Tom, Thank you for your videos and instruction. Today I played 9 holes for the first time in a year. Last year I played only once (9 holes). I shot a 41 today that included a birdied on the par 5 9th. I did this with literally no practice or even range warm up. I am so excited to see where this swing will take my game as I get it more groved it. Most of my "misses" into the greens where left pulls, due to my old move of really spinning my hips hard that caused my weight to fall back. When I kept if forward on the down swing I was amazed at the strike I was producing. When we were done my friend said "ok...what is up? You have not hit a ball in a year, and come out and shoot 41 (I took his dollar too🙂). I gave him your name and told him to watch your videos. I told him it is truly game changing! Thanks again for what you do. It is great stuff. PS - I used single length irons and 2 utility clubs the length of a six iron. I play from the up tee (yellow) with a goal of 200 from the tee shots. I hit a couple 230+, which is huge for me!! I am super excited what the future holds. I feel that with my single length clubs I will Grove this move much faster. Will I ever shoot a 68....no, but I am very confident I can get my scores into the 70's. It blows my mind that I even think that way so very confidently. It is a great feeling - totally thanks to your teaching. Sorry so long, but I am just amazed. Cheers and take care.

I was skeptical of this method because I've always swung what everyone said was too far inside on the backswing. I tried and tried to get it more vertical and then shallow on the downswing but was very uncomfortable. Also I had a bad hip slide and thought that keeping my weight forward would make it worse. Needless to say I was wrong. I realised that with your type of backswing it's already shallowed with zero effort or thought. Tried your method today on the course and hit the longest drive I've ever hit by 30 yards which was over 300 and I'm only 5' 4". Even my miss hits went farther then my old center hits. And this method works on every type of shot. From driver to chipping and sand. Thank you!

Big fan of your vids! They have a perfect balance of solid concepts, techniques and humor. With that said, I researched this fundamental move. It is correct.. but a detail i might suggest is sometimes it is better to raise the lead shoulder pointing about a yard ahead of the ball (like Tiger Woods does). This allows agressive golfers who really really load the lead shoulder deep, more room for the trail side to come thru on the downswing.. although technically, both ways get back on plane. happy golfing!

When I tilt so much like that, I always fear that I will not "clear enough" on the downswing, and will subsequently chunk the ball. I think the most important thing is to place a 60/40 weight distribution towards your left leg (if right handed), so that the momentum is going towards the ball. Great instruction.
@cobra72824 жыл бұрын
Just make sure your weight is moving forward in the downswing and even some straightening out of the lead leg as your coming into impact will help create space for the club to the ball.
@bengolfs14 жыл бұрын
@@cobra7282 I agree. I'm just not supposed to think about these things while addressing the ball--the swing is fluid and these mechanics are supposed to happen without thinking about them. That is my goal--to not think about these mechanics, and just have them occur automatically. Almost there.

Tom, finally someone who knows what he is talking about and can communicate it to his audience. Someone once said "golf is a simple game" which of course no one believes because we make it hard and why.? Because of all the complicated instruction and the lack of explaining in simple terms or the expectation that we already know some things. I'm turning 80 soon and have blown out to 20 handicap and with that one single tip of keeping the left shoulder pointing ( in my case, nearly to the ball) I can see myself improving at least 5 shots.. maybe. So now am heading to your website to become a " Saguto golfer " Thanks mate from Victoria Australia, MEL.
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
How interesting and sad it is, Melvyn, that with all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness! I'm so glad to know that you are enrolling in the school. You'll find yourself in good company there as a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Here's some preliminary advice to help you get off to a good start: 1) Regardless of a member's skill level, this swing necessitates a complete reboot for someone transitioning from a shift & lift swing (which is typically the case), and therefore it is imperative that one take sufficient time to ensure that the fundamental components are mastered. From the ground up there is nothing superfluous in the Stack & Tilt swing - in other words, everything with a purpose, and a purpose for everything. (For example, contrary to shift & lift where you may be taught to keep your trail foot perpendicular to the target line as a means of "creating resistance" in your trail side, in S&T we flare both feet out 10-20 degrees in order to facilitate a free flowing, inclined hip and shoulder turn.) I cannot emphasize this enough, as frustrations predominantly occur when students jump ahead in the curriculum without properly dedicating themselves to the foundational base upon which our consistently repeatable, powerful, low maintenance swing must be built. Chapter 1 of the Golf Swing Simplified program (GSS) and Part I of Get Out & Go Play (GOGP) both address this. 2a) GSS: One of the many great things about this swing is that you can achieve solid ball striking even at the most basic levels. This is why I oftentimes will suggest that students park themselves on Chapter 2 of the GSS course for an extended period of time after locking down Chapter 1's foundational elements. Chapter 2 reinforces the body motions and the weight-forward component, and it culminates with what I call "The Best Golf Swing Practice Drill of All Time". Work yourself sequentially and gradually through the chapter, and then commit yourself to that drill in Lesson 2.8. Learn it. Practice it. Master it. You can even use this partially abbreviated swing on the course and play quite well with it as it will provide plenty of distance. (It actually is the full swing minus just a couple of power accumulators.) Once you've got that down, you will be well prepared to move forward in the curriculum and well on your way towards taking ownership of YOUR swing! 2b) GOGP: This quick-start program is exactly as it sounds - it is designed to fast-track you out onto the course so you can have fun - and success - playing as you learn! Should you choose this path, everything in #1 above still applies, and as implied above in 2a you will still want to work through it sequentially and gradually, mastering each lesson before moving ahead to the next one. In this program, Drill #5 - The Flying Wedge is the one you'll want to park yourself on and nail down. 3) Also, as you progress always keep in mind the V1 Swing Video Analysis, an effective and inexpensive service that I highly recommend to everyone in the school. I liken it to bringing your swing into the shop for a tune-up or minor repair. Scheduling one on a quarterly basis for preventive maintenance will do wonders for keeping things humming along nicely, and it's also a great tool for pinpointing and resolving any issues that arise. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/lessons 4) Finally, please migrate over to the SagutoGolf Community Forum - which is included in your online school enrollment - and begin engaging with your fellow members. It only takes a minute or two to enroll - just go to your “My Courses” screen and you’ll see a link to get started. Once signed in you’ll be able to access and participate in the great dialogue that we are having on a variety of topics. You can start discussions, contribute to existing threads, post specific swing questions, make some new friends, and just share in the common bond of golfers from around the world seeking to improve their games and help others to do the same. I really think you’ll enjoy it! I look forward to assisting you through the school’s structured lessons and drills towards building a consistent, low maintenance, powerful, body-friendly swing that will bring your enjoyment of this great game to a new level! Cheers! Tom

I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction! And yes - the body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system I teach is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best golfers in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. Would you like to learn some key aspects of the swing I teach in a more structured manner? If so, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks for your message and support, and have fun out there!! Tom, I found this video 4 days ago having never seen your work before and I'm a golf instruction junkie. First thought after 10 seconds was this guy is crazy but then I thought to myself I've learned some good info from George Gankas who is totally out in left field so I kept watching because you mentioned Arnold Palmer. It didn't take long to realize you were simply not afraid to "push the envelope" because of your passion. It made me listen. Thank you and Thank God that I did!! I've tried ideas from hundreds of pros and instructors looking for something that would click since I didn't start golfing until I was 23. It's been 30 years of madness, getting down to a 2 hdcp and going back up to 10. I've worked with Jimmy Ballard, Bradley Hughes, Kent Chase (who was taught by Wild Bill Mehlhorn) and several other well regarded teaching pros. NO ONE ever suggested to point the left shoulder at the ball and I'm embarrassed to have never picked up on this gem of a tip from Mr. Palmer. Using swing thoughts from Bradley Hughes, combined with the shoulder at the ball and extra pressure on the lead foot at the top of the backswing ... I'm feeling like the 10 hdcp might become 0 within the next month. CRISPY!! Keep pushing the boundaries using "old school" thoughts and you'll soon be joining Bradley Hughes, George Gankas, and Lucas Wald in the upper tier of instruction This is amazing considering your age. Don't underestimate yourself! Well done and congratulations from Calgary, Canada. p.s. check out this fellow for guitar inspiration ;-) kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5nMdXSua5iSetU www.justinjohnsonlive.com/videos.html

I'm very glad to know that you didn't "quit me" after those first 10 seconds of madness, and I am thrilled to learn of the positive results you experienced with the tips you mentioned. Mr. Palmer offered some great kernels of swing knowledge, though somehow - perhaps due to his swashbuckling and seemingly non-technical style - these flew under the radar to some extent. Thanks a lot, Tom for this great common sense lesson. I have been struggling with consistency in my ball striking, especially with my irons. Being a North East golfer we don’t get to play for six ore seven months of the year because of weather conditions. When golf season finally arrives we have to work the rust off from not playing for so long. Your reminding your viewers about keeping our arms close to our upper torso was a face palming moment for me because I forgot to adhere to that rule. Hi Tom, I just found this video last night. Whenever I find a tip on You Tube I go down to the practice range and try it out. Some of them worked, for a while, others didn't. When I woke up this morning, I went to try out this pointing the shoulder at the ball idea. Wow! Incredible! I hit around 50 balls and only had 4 mishits! Most of the shots, dead straight or with a slight draw. I can't wait to play 18 holes tomorrow and try this out. I've played for around 50 years since age 12 and this is the best tip I've come across. Thank you so much.

Phil Snelman - I must say that I am truly blown away that you can take a random tip off of KZbin - where there are like 5 million tips, many of which totally contradict each other - take it to the range, see if it works, and if not completely delete it from muscle memory and move on to the next one! Wow!! I'd be an absolute pretzel if I tried that! Anyway, I'm glad to know that this tip worked well for you and I look forward to learning how it played out on the course! By the way, if you are pleased with the results and would like to get on the fast track for what I teach please consider the SagutoGolf membership plan as it is one of the best golf instruction values out there. Yesterday was my 3rd time at the range since watching your videos and I was hitting the ball beautifully. Hit about 25 shots with the driver and at least 20 of them were dead straight with a little draw.

Can't wait to try this out. It's too cold in Europe atm. Have to dry practice in the living room til the spring comes. I've been using the glued arms /elbows pointing at hips in the backswing. Worked great. Maybe this is the last piece of the puzzle

I hope it is, Patric, and I look forward to hearing from you next year when you are able to try it out on the course! Stay warm! Tom

I've played this game for over fifty years. I've always been an inconsistent short-knocker. I constantly watch videos, searching for the answer. I finally found the answer. This one swing thought has changed my game. The first time I went out using this strategy, I lowered my score by at least five strokes. I also hit a couple of drives fifty to seventy yards longer than ever before. You do have to keep your concentration on maintaining the arms tight against the body and straight. You must be conscious of keeping your weight predominantly on the lead foot. You just tilt and point the shoulder at the ball...then it happens. It's somewhat counterintuitive, but it works! I can't wait to get on the range and polish this effortless swing further!

That's fantastic, Bruce - I'm very glad to learn of your dramatic improvement through this Arnold Palmer tip!! When you consider that no less than 100% of the best players in the game tilt, it does make sense that we probably should as well, right?? Sadly, this critical component somehow flies under the radar of most "conventional" instruction. By the way, here's a link to my free mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” in case you’re interested in learning about the swing in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ Thanks for sharing your success and keep up the great work!! This makes great sense. I'll have to try this. I've watched tour pros and seem some stuff that is not in any instruction books. I remember one guy who had his feet only about a foot apart. Makes sense with this idea. If your feet are closer together, you can pivot and turn easier, and and you don't loose your point of contact over the ball because you don't have to return to the same point after shifting your body weight to the right side.
