Sahak Sahakyan - Gini lits (Armenian folk song)

Armenian folk song "Gini lits" (Pour the wine) performs Sahak Sahakian. The song is about Soghomon Tehlerian, who shooted Talaat pasha, one of the main organizers of Armenian Genocide, in Berlin in March 15, 1921. In the German court Soghomon says: "I have killed a man, but I'm not a murderer". In favor of Soghomon spoke German Orientalist and humanist Johannes Lepsius with a special interest in trying to prevent the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
The German court justified Soghomon Tehlerian.
This picture was published in a Soviet Armenian magazine in 1970's. When Soghomon was sitting before the camera, the photographer suggested showing the finger with which he had pressed the trigger when shooting Talaat in Berlin, March 15,1921.
Հայ ժողովրդական «Գինի լից» երգն է՝ Սահակ Սահակյանի կատարմամբ: Երգը նվիրված է հայ վրիժառու Սողոմոն Թեհլերյանին, որը 1921 թվականի մարտի 15-ին Բեռլինի Հարդենբերգ փողոցում դեմ առ դեմ կանգնելով Հայոց ցեղասպանության գլխավոր կազմակերպիչներից մեկի՝ Թալեաթ փաշայի առջև, գնդակահարեց նրան: Գերմանական դատարանում Սողոմոնը հայտարարեց. «Մի մարդ եմ սպանել, բայց ես մարդասպան չեմ»: Ի պաշտպանություն հայ վրիժառուի ելույթ ունեցավ գերմանացի հասարակական գործիչ, արևելագետ և հայասեր Յոհաննես Լեփսիուսը՝ ներկայացնելով թուրքական կառավարության կազմակերպած կոտորածներն իրենց ամենայն դաժանությամբ ու անգթությամբ: Գերմանական դատարանն արդարացրեց Սողոմոնին:
Այս լուսանկարը հրապարակվել է 1970-ականներին՝ Խորհրդային Հայաստանի մի թերթում, որտեղ պատմվել է, թե երբ Սողոմոնը տեղավորվում էր ֆոտոխցիկի առջև, լուսանկարիչն առաջարկում է առաջ պարզել այն մատը, որով սեղմել էր ատրճանակի ձգանը՝ Թալեաթին գնդակահարելիս:

«Դաշնակցություն» ժողով արեց,
Շուն Թալեաթին մահ որոշեց,

Թալեաթ փաշան փախավ Բեռլին,
Թեհլերյանը հասաւ հետին,
Զարկեց ճակտին, փռեց գետնին

Շուն Թալեաթին դրին հորը,
Լուրը տարան իր ծեր մորը,

This song is about the murder of Talaat Pasha by the Armenian avenger Soghomon Tehleryan. Talaat was one of the main organizers of the Armenian Genocide during the 1st world war (1914-1918).

Armenians and Azerbaijani Turks fight over a region called Karabakh (Locally known as Artsakh by Armenians). The region was ruled and inhabited by Armenians during the pre-Islamic period. After the Islamic conquests, Oghuz Turks and Kurds moved into the region and coexisted with the Armenians for centuries, at times comprising 40% of the population. After the Russian conquest of the Caucasus, Russian soldier and Armenian revolutionary guerrilla fighters expelled a lot of the Muslim Turks and Kurds from the region. During the early days of the Soviet Union, Stalin decided to incorporate the region into the Azerbaijani SSR in order to gain the favor of the Turkish Kemalists. Thus, the Armenian majority region ended up within Azerbaijan. During the collapse of the Soviet Union, local Armenian nationalist rebels led by Monte Melkonian and later backed by the Armenian Republic itself fought a war against Azerbaijan and liberated the region from Azerbaijani control, establishing an independent (though unrecognized) republic. During the war, however, the Armenian rebels expelled and massacred the Azerbaijani Turkish minority in the region, which caused profound resentment from the Azerbaijani side which lasts to this day. In 2020, a second war broke out between Azerbaijan and the Republic of Artsakh. The war lasted 44 days and the Azerbaijanis managed the annex most of the territories of the republic from the Armenians.
