サイトウさんは当時の平家の魂を鶴真さんが呼びそれを身に受け入れ(憑依される)、当時心境(苦しみや無念、死にゆく恐怖等)を魂(命)をかけて演じて頂きました。 大変お疲れになられたことでしょう。 何度も袴を手にし、たくし上げる仕草や無念の苦しみ等、私も息が詰まるほど感化しました。 タイムスリップして当時すぐ側に居たかの様に感じる事が出来ました。合掌。 ありがとうございました。

Sawari and Awai - Satsuma biwa Tsuruta-ryū - Nishihara Kakushin live concert performance The sound-quality called sawari, literally “interference,” is considered the special characteristic of the Japanese biwa. The contact of the silk string against the flat top of the fret produces this slightly buzzing resonance, prized as the special feature of the biwa. Awai, literally “space,” expresses the meeting of two aesthetic forces, perhaps complementary, perhaps oppositional, perhaps both. [The implications and associations of these two meaning-laden Japanese words could be analyzed at much greater length, possibly as a doctoral dissertation.] This performance takes the relationship of sawari and awai as a theme, exploring classic and innovative biwa performance in relation with electronic music and modern dance. Nishihara Kakushin at age 17 heard the late Tsuruta Kinshi in the modern piece “November Steps” by Takemitsu Tōru, written for a Western orchestra with a biwa and shakuhachi added, and was moved to become Tsuruta’s disciple. She has since won international recognition as a performer of the innovative Tsuruta style and her own very innovative compositions. This performance offers first the classic biwa song “Dan no Ura,” a foundation piece for the Tsuruta- ryū. The second half attempts a new realization of biwa plus electronics in collaboration with P. Saitoh’s ambient guitar and physical expression by Saitō Masumi. The performance is in a historic Japanese farm building, now a museum/library in the Ōizumi Cultural Village. - Kyokureki (loose translation)

ぎゅいーん奏法と節の回しかたが最高。けど舞踊家が出てくるとこから意味不明…平家の亡霊が出てくる所を表現してる？なら一応成功だけど情の欠けた表現だよね。これじゃただのゾンビ。今はやりのアンデッド。 それにしても観客の反応がオモロいわ。高いカネ払ってはるばる見に来てるのに彼女が何を表現しようとしてるのか理解できずに困惑･･･
