Cannot thank her enough for this interview! I’ve often wondered how having kids is going to affect my reselling as I’ve been doing this 10 years. I picture myself with little ones at the thrift store and it feels overwhelming. It’s amazing she’s made it a teaching opportunity. I can see that her background definitely helps with finding ways to teach her kids about entrepreneurship and finances while also being helpful to her and having a little fun in the process. It gives me hope I can have a family and still run my business! Pushing 30 and it feels like it’s time to start or put the dream on a shelf..

25:28 - 25:42 The issue of taking measurements by hand, separately from photos.. I used to do that too for years until I changed to photographing the measurements. When photographing an item I just quickly take a measuring tape and lay it on top of the area, take a few snaps and continue with my photo process. Then when you get to photo editing/uploading your measurements are right there. It has saved a lot of time and streamlines things and you tend not to go back and re-handle items over and over. Been doing this 12+ years and wish I had done that right from the start.

Thanks for your insight! I’ve actually considered this. I currently photo all at once then measure, bag, and weigh all at once. I am looking to see how I can rearrange to make your method work for me. Hopefully it goes well 🤞🏻

I started putting measurements in my photos when Poshmark sided with the customer for a return for a chest measurement on a scrunchie broomstick top. I even said in the listing what the widest measurement could be along with the laying flat measurement, but the customer took their own photo and placed the crinkle fabric wherever they wanted it so Poshmark took their side. If I’d had a photo that would not have happened.

Making a list for me takes longer than it should, but I'm learning, and I've learned a lot from your content. Ive had to really get my priorities straight. I wanted to be home with my kids but im also competitive. It’s hard on days where they need me fully to see my goals not get met. But I take a step back remember that they are priority one and let myself take the day off without stressing about it. When I had to call in while they were sick I was always reminded how many sick days I had used or had left. I’m so lucky to only answer to myself now. And I get to do a job I love while spending time with my kids.

I'm a homeschool mom also with 3 boys(7,4 & 2) and my business model is very similar to hers. I do go to the bins but I dont stay for very long because my baby gets restless. Really thats any thrift store but I've learned to go fast and only go through the new tags unless its been awhile since I've been there. My 7 year old doesnt source but he takes all my packages into the post office, even the heavy loads . And I pay him for it as well. Its very difficult to be a mom and resell in my opinion. Extremely wearing and time consuming when I'm already stretched thin but I work hard and makes pretty good sales. I'd like to do more but I'm trying to get a better schedule so I can balance my time better. I really appreciate this interview!!

Mystee, you do such a great job at the very difficult task of finding balance as a SAHM and home . my goodwill does this. A worker had me help her lol. she was pulling all the color tags and i already knew they did it because nothing is ever on the color tag sale nothing. My bins is also horrific too many ppl for the lack of stuff. Mom of 4, it's hard because you can think you have a good schedule going and alot of things can get in the way of that schedule. Sometimes work doesn't happen which isn't good then you feel guilty because I didnt do what I needed to for work Or I did work and let the kitchen go or something gets sacrificed.

OMG!!!! I noticed this too with sale days!!! I find my best things in full price days. I thought I was crazy. I don’t even go during their color tag sale days. INSANE!!!! I never have, but if had to take my little one to the bins I wouldn’t stay very long. But I also try to just get in and out of thrift stores too. I think having my daughter with me and wanting to move faster has been the driving force to wanting to improve my base knowledge. So things are easier to spot. If I find myself going item by item I set a time limit. Sometimes I leave with nothing and that’s ok. If my daughter just isn’t feeling it I definitely listen to how she is feeling. Sometimes I’ll just stop and say, let’s get out here and go to the park.

This was great. A lot of us heard you and really related. With teenagers my solution has been the early morning… 4 AM. Before the heading out the door drama begins, when everybody’s trying to find some thing or needs help loading something into the car or can’t find their socks. Early early is my most productive Mom window. The rest of the day is fair game when you have kids. They see you present and have a question or need something. It’s all good and my kids are a blessing but the older I get the more I need that quiet window that best of all, at 4am, is productive and guilt free!

Loved this interview! I'm not exactly a SAHM - I'm the default parent and have a PT job as a public library director, no formal childcare, and I resell. I'm at the point where reselling earns me more than the library job (which isn't that hard because it's a library job lol but still). I often feel like I need to choose 1 thing to be good at and like I could really kill it as a reseller, but it's so hard to make that choice. And YES the mom guilt is so real, especially with a "PT" job AND reselling, which are both never really done. Thanks for making an effort to rep all different kinds of resellers! My favorite part was when she said that sometimes there isn't a right solution. I'm a fixer so that was a thinker for me.
@mysteethrifts5 ай бұрын
I’m glad to hear your reselling business is earning more than your PT income. I think that’s a testament to your ability to build an income on your own. It sounds like you have a promising future as a hard worker and hope to one day hear your story of success (which it sounds like you are already killing it in every avenue) ❤
