Had a really weird experience with this episode of Bebop. Quite a few years back I got into in Boards of Canada, and with one of their songs- Olson, someone had made a video using the same clips. I liked the video, but without knowing the source, in time it fell to the wayside. A couple years later I finally get around to watching cowboy bebop, and these images came back in an almost haunting fashion, as they were all familiar but entirely unexpected. It was mind blowing that the plot was about the same experience I had with that VHS of memories lost. I dunno. Life is sometimes interesting.

In a summary, the story is this: She was studying in a boarding school for women on Earth. In 2007, at 13 years of age, she recorded a video tape "Betamax" with a message to be seen by herself in the future. In 2014 she suffers an accident and is frozen cryogenically at 20 years old until her illness be cured in the future. In 2068, after 50 years (the present of the anime is 2071, that is 3 years later), she is healed, but her memory can' t recover, she suffers from amnesia. So all her past is a mystery until one day that tape arrives, without knowing who sent it to the ship Bebop. So she can't remember nothing. Nothing of nothing. And slowly, after she seen that video of her, she begin to do it... slowly, so slowly, painfully. In that, she travel to the places that are in the video. Travel to her past, to what it was her real life. But what she finds? Loneliness, decadence, ruins, a life that no longer exists. Is like she was a wandering ghost.

It hurts so much. In 2017, I listened to this music all day, and it resumes pretty well the vibe from that year. I am five months away from turning 18 and I feel nostalgic like a very old person. It's just that... life was so much easier back then.. even tho I wasn't happy, it was less heavier. Knowing that every day, I am more and more far from these memories it's an endless torture :/ I miss my childhood like a lost astronaut misses the earth. Like a wild bird kept in a locked cage misses his home in the nature.

Wow it's the exact same for me, turning 18 on October 8, I have a lot of high school exams to pass right now, next year I'll go to University, and I kinda miss the old times when I was a kid and I ate breakfast in front of my favorites cartoons in the morning xD but I tell myself that everybody before me had to do it as well and grow up, and although I won't be able to live my childhood again, those are memories I will cherish for the rest of my life :) (btw sorry if there are any mistakes, english isn't my first language)

This song is like a moment so relaxing and invigorating that it hurts, but you know it won't last forever, so you incorporate it into your mind, like a shining and gratifying memory; and you relive that moment intensely every time you remember it. This video has a unique essence, actually. Whether it's the Cowboy Bebop clip in the background, the song itself that has the feeling of a comforting memory, or the fact that both video and song fit together so well. There are things in life that bring this unique feeling, and this song, for me, is definitely one of them.

One of the best episode of anime in history. Imagine Faye's feelings: you are a living person, but mostly you are a piece of far long existed civilization. There is no place for you. No one doesn't give a fuck about you. You saw death of your parents, but you forgot it. This ignorance feels like a gift. And suddenly you remember who you were, your friends, house, room, after all your parents and then you remember what happened in that incident... What brought these memories? Loneliness. These feelings led her to stop Spike from suicidal revenge. He, Jet, Ed, Ein. She felt they're team.

The saddest thing to ever happen to anime was getting away from hand painting the cels. ALL the anime in the last 10 years or so looks the same, has LOW frame rates and all the character designs are optimized for simplistic digital painting. Watching and listening to this video reminded me of my childhood in the 80s, watching VHS tapes of anime that my mom's friends would bring back from Japan.
