Something therapeutic about shooting slugs. Love shotguns. I get laughed at taking a shotgun on moose hunts, but it's deadly, versatile, rugged, reliable, capable and intuitive. At least, for me. Good luck on the moose. Take care.

My Uncle got a moose when I was a kid. My Aunt canned it up. I would dice some potato's and get them cooking in a pan then throw in a small can of moose meat and fry it up for breakfast. Just used butter, salt and pepper. Dang that was good. GREAT! Now I am hungry again.

I hunt quite a lot with my Saiga-12 here in Alaska... very versatile in terms of small-game, big-game hunting, and dangerous-game protection. It makes for an excellent river-rafting firearm as well as reliable for winter travels when the weather plus multi day, multi terrain wants to throw everything it has at you. I find 3" RWS Brenneke Black Magic to be the most accurate out to 70-100m and most effective on Moose at all angles in the 40-75m range. I use H&K G3 front and rear sights on mine... this is in my opinion and from experience the best Iron sight set-up for sight acquisition, alignment, and tightening up group consistency (POA/POI relationship). Groups in small palm of hand routinely @ 75m. I set the sight on the #2 diopter for most shooting. Out of all Saiga guns... SAIGA 12 is my go-to and favorite. The selective choke I use is a combo dial-a-duck style, ported, w/ door-breacher --- POLY-CHOKE is the make.
@SurvivalRussia7 жыл бұрын
Very interesting modification!! How did you manage to mount G3 sights on the Saiga?
@alaskaraftconnection-alask33977 жыл бұрын
Hello Lars... yes good question - the way I did this was by welding the front sight assembly (circle/post) to top of the most forward end of the gas system top of the gas block (not the removable tube part)...the rear sight assembly is welded to the receiver/dust cover (sort of like Galil or Valmet). With bird and buck shot I use the open v #1 setting on rear, and w/slugs I mostly use the #2 dialed on the diopter setting. The HK-91 G3 sight system is a natural for the SAIGA-12... rugged, low profile, quick on target, precise, nice for the recoil, user-friendly, and versatile. The good thing about 'your' SAIGA over the ones here in USA (unless modified) is that you have real AK front and rear sights and some sight radius. Most out of box here in USA came with short radius crappy rear plus black painted bead. I did try the SAIGA-12 with all sorts of optics nevertheless none were as practical, quick, accurate, rugged effective, etc. as the G3 set-up for where I go, what I do, and have my trust in all conditions as well as useful ranges. As an outfitter/guide... often times setting folks up for success mild to wild outdoors professionally means that when I finally get the free ranging time to go out personally... the season and weather is nothing anybody opts to be paying for and represents quite harsh conditions. The SAIGA-12 is dependable even when the most seasoned outdoorsman sits inside and asks me a question like , "you where out in that stuff" - lol.

@biggafigure85757 жыл бұрын
patriotpioneer if you go with the saiga there are several aftermarket companies, AGP, Surefire gun mags, md arms, and others that make 8-10-12 stick mags and 20-30 round drums. If you buy a surefire mag, you can pull off the floor plate, cutting just below a rib and reinsert the floor plate to make lesser capacity for people who are hunters and such

Excellent shooting. And thank you for taking the time to do the video. Here in Georgia (southeastern USA) the Saiga 12 gauge semi-auto is popular, although not as popular as the Remington model 870 pump-action shotgun. Myself, I used to hunt wild hogs with my semi-auto AK-47 and found it to be an outstanding and amazingly rugged rifle. Leaning against a tree, most people could shoot 10 cm groups using the normal AK-47 open sights. I wish you, as well as your family, tremendous success + happiness + good health. And I wish Peace and Prosperity for the USA and Russia. Мир, товарищ!

A coincidence Lars, just cleaned my berreta semi auto after 100 round practice print today, shooting funky stuff on a range of flying saucers and rabbit bolting clay targets. I took my daughter and her husband for a first time tryout on s/gun, they were awesome, after about 10 rounds they were breaking the saucers. I was coaching them of course... The saiga is a real woodsmans printer, the accuracy of the short barrel is great! But its the nut behind the butt that counts! Try some rubber slugs and compare to the macarov pistol? But please do not crimp your saiga barrel!!!!!!

Maybe build a shotgun pattern board? A 2 meter by 2 meter square painted white with a blak cirle with a 1 meter radius. Shooting enter of the circle will tell you which direction your shotgun puts the pattern of the shot and at what choke setting. There is probably better descriptions of a pattern board out there in shotgun hunting forums for duck and goose hunters.

Moose hunting . about 16 years ago i desired to go moose hunting in russia but the only moose hunting I could arrange was through American outfitters and they charged american fee,s . So I never made it to russia but i have stood on the border a couple of time. The upside was I met my wife through the process so I probably I come out on top with that one. To be honest shooting the moose wasn't that important to me. The process was what I was interested in . What I was really looking for was the real russian hunting experience. What I want to see is whether Mrs Survival Russia will put her belgium camo on and take a turn at carrying the moose. I kinda hope you get a moose because Im interested in the logistics of getting a moose from the forest to the freezer.

I did some mental calculation, and figured out your Saiga's barrel length in inches -it's 17 inches, give or take a millimeter. It would require a special federal license here in the USA, because the government arbitrarily decided that 18 inches is the minimum non-permit length for shotgun barrels. A stupid, useless law which does nothing to curb crime, but, the US government has been doing a great many stupid things as of late.
@SurvivalRussia7 жыл бұрын
I don't understand such laws. Criminals are kind of known for not abiding laws.
@kevins11147 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, there are many mentally deranged people in politics here. Anyone who doesn't know that only needs to look at the political "candidates" the international bankers choose for us to see what I mean. Many of them are simply insane. Look at our last presidential election - same problem as always, our choices are limited to either a douche or a turd. Even worse are the unelected bureaucrats. Here, bureaucrats are far more corrupt and power-hungry than those of the old Soviet Union.

Nice saiga! The handguard is beautiful and the triangle side-folder is classic. From what I've gathered, because of dumb, trivial import laws, the saigas imported here to the US are configured very poorly and tend to be junk out of the box. The VEPR is king here-- or was, before they got banned from importation too. :(

By the way, a friend parked his camo 4 wheeler in the summer and didn't find it till it snowed!.Don't get "buck fever" and forget where you parked it. Buck fever is going totally brain dead when your prey comes into sight. Pointing the gun and yelling "bang, bang" does not put meat on the table.
