The Survival Russia Channel is about "The Reality Of Survival". I live on a Homestead in far away Russian wild nature. Here is no room for "TV" Survival.
Only Reality counts here. Survival Russia promotes the philosophy of always carrying equipment and never to be parted from equipment which will affect chances of Survival.
So did the old timers and pioneers of both the East and the West.

What about using it in plastic shells cant find brass got plenty of plastic
@Ironpine27
@Ironpine27 2 жыл бұрын
@@darrenjenkins3839 A bit late of an answer, but you could definitely do it. As long as your shot is round, it won't rip the plastic to shreds. Shooting sharp pieces of steel from plastic will destroy the shell fast, if not after a single load. Although brass won't like it either, still being much softer than steel after all. In a sentence, just make sure your shot is round in shape, and you'll be fine.

Lars, when it comes to local history. You are one of the few people that shows honest respect and awe for what these objects show and the way the people overcome the adversity of what comes at them. Maybe you need to become a museum caretaker when you're too old to get out in the woods.

There must be quite a few friendly locals in your area, Lars. It looks like they wanna help you out in every possible way they can. Now that's a blessing. They even want you to make good KZbin videos. How about that. It is very nice of that guy to lend you the selfmade double barrel and the other things so we can learn about how things were made and used back in those days, and what they had to do to survive under tough conditions. I am very impressed by the fact that he made that double barrel himself. Nice work. I bet he is proud of it. Lars knew many of us would be interested in learning about this, even those of us who are not hunters. I find most antiques and older objects fascinating. I have a couple of old swedish lead bullet pliers somewhere. I believe they are hand forged. You melt the lead and make one bullet at a time with them. I would like to know more about what they had to do to survive in the villages in Siberia. What food did they have, what did they cook, stoves, kitchen utensils, tools, guns, fishing rods, traps, houses and clothes. You name it and I would like to know more about it, I am sure. Lars, you look like you are sitting up there somewhere on a pink cloud with that blissful expression on your face, holding that double in your arms. We might have to get you one of those. We want you bak down here on earth so you can show us exactly how versatile that double barrel is. Thank you good neighbor of Lars, and thank you Lars for another awesome video.

I live in Greenland and understand your fascination (and respect) for the hunters' tradition of "make do on the fly". The hunters here know how to repair anything with anything anywhere in any kind of weather anytime. It is also truly fascinating how the hunters 100 years ago even survived. Kayaks, skin boats, harpoons of all sorts, maps made of wood and so on. Awesome, as you would say. I enjoy your videos and although we have no trees whatsoever here in Greenland, I still enjoy even the fire-making videos. Well done and enjoyable to the max.

THANK YOU! The old hammer side by side, used just you said, is the most reliable tool for harvesting four legged and winged "fast food." Fast because, with practice, accuracy and speed can be developed. I have my grandfather's hammer side by side. When the springs broke, he rigged the hammer with rubber bands. Worked great, but it has long since been repaired. I never thought someone else had the same opinions about the "old reliable." Super-Epic-Awesome.

Around our part of Illinois it was .22 single shot rifles because .22 shorts were less expensive than long rifles. A single shot shotgun from the hardware store or Sears catalogue was an option but shells were much more expensive. Some folks shot quail with.22 shorts.

South Alabama gulf coast here, my Great Grandfather put meat on the table,for his 9 children and GGM, with single shot 410 and single shot 22. I'm here so I looks like we survived. My Grandfather, the oldest,trapped wild quail and picked wild blueberries to pay for 16 gauge double barrel when he was old enough to take over hunting duties. So I guess what I'm sayin is u don't need a gun that shoots 11teen time to put meat on the table.

You can't beat an old double barrelled hammer gun for walking up some dinner. When I lived in the UK we would often go out early on a Sunday morning to walk up pigeons or rabbits, (nothing much bigger that you can rough shoot in the UK unfortunately). Most of my friends had pumps and autos but I always took either an old Cogswell & Harrison 12 bore or an ancient Belgian 20 bore with 3" chambers. The 20 was light and perfect for pigeon coming out of old treed hedgerows. We also used to shoot rooks which I think are protected now in the UK, Wikipaedia tells me they are all across Russia, in the old days they were a poor mans meat for a pie, most people thought they were carrion eaters and would taste poorly but in my opinion they make a good pie, they eat mostly insects and worms as well as cereals.After a good day I used to leave a few by my neighbour's door, in return she would leave a pie made from some of them by my door. An interesting video, life must have been quite uncertain after peristroika.

Thank you for such interesting videos, the least I can do is like and comment. My wife is Russian from Zhukovsky, I am hoping to get time to visit her family and then to get out into the country to have a look around. Your videos are making me even more determined to go. Here is an English rook pie recipe that might interest you; forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/4354-rook-pie/ . The 3" chambered 20g gives you a bit less lead in the air but about the same range so you need to be a reasonable shot, the big advantage is if you are covering a lot of ground on foot it is a lot lighter and very fast to bring up. I expect you can get 20g slugs in Russia so it is even useful for deer or small pigs but I bet the recoil is quite fierce with such a light gun firing a slug.

100 years from now you could take that old shotgun out and still use it to put food on the table. Awesome piece of history and you are totally correct, best "survival tool" out there. Whenever there's an auction near me from an old farm I try to attend for the same reason you love that old shotgun. Those "old school" relics that survive met the need at hand, be they tools or guns or cookware. And often in hard times, the truly useful stuff was tested in ways we don't usually have to anymore. The modern equivalent is usually disposable crap.

A HUGE advantage of a simple printer like that is ease of repair and not being dependent on relatively fragile parts like magazines. Given your shop skills, you could likely fabricate just about any part of that double. There's also the advantage that the printer is not dependent on the quality of cartridges to function.

I have a 12 gauge pump shotgun, and a 12 gauge semi-auto shotgun also. I also have a modified AK-47 which is in the semi auto version and made in China. I got this gun for home defense, and purchased a Sturm Ruger Mini-14 assault rifle also. That is a semi-auto rifle and is for home defense as well. I have a .55 caliber muzzle loader rifle which I have only used for target practice, but is a nice gun. When it comes to handguns, I first bought a .22 caliber pistol which I still have, but was damaged when it was stolen. I later purchased a .357 magnum pistol, and then the 9mm semi-auto pistol. I don't hunt any longer, but keep these guns for self defense at home.

Shotguns in general are the most flexible guns you can own. Here in the US I can have all manner of weapons, but if it comes down to it, if I could only have one gun for the rest of my life, I'd choose a shotgun. My personal favorite is a mossberg pump shotgun, but the single shot break action holds a special place in my heart.

Hey, Lars. Love those old shotguns. One of the early settlers to this area on the US West Coast walked all the way across country with a black-powder double-barrel shotgun as his only firearm. That gun is a beauty and it's hanging in one of the museums downtown. I think it was essentially a 20 gauge. I don't have a 20 gauge, but I do have an over-and-under Beretta in 28 gauge. Real easy on the shoulder and a delight to carry. Good enough for everything up to and including pheasant and even turkey with a head shot. Beautiful engraved gun, and I love shooting skeet with it. Reloading for it is very economical. I also have a single-shot Rossi 20 gauge with a collapsible stock, ghost-ring sights, a sling, and Chiappa caliber adapter inserts for .45 Long Colt/.410, .38/.357 Magnum, .22 LR, .45 acp, 9mm, 40 S+W. Real handy gun that shoots pretty much to point of aim at 25 yards or so. I guess it's my SHTF gun.

The main disadvantage of the semiauto shotgun would be that it exclusively needs modern type shells to work properly whereas a single shot or double gun can digest practically any kind of load including black powder. In a SHTF scenario any individual with sufficient skills to manufacture his own reloading components including primers would never be forced to watch his gun become idle collecting dust in a corner.

I have read some place that when the West was being settled (the Cowboys and Indians West), the most common Printer in use didn't spin a Cylinder nor use a Lever, but it had Two Barrels! Hunting, Home Defense it truly is a Survival Multi-Tool. But the Skills required to make them nowadays have priced them out of reach of the Common Man. But not to worry! New Single Barrel Printers can be found almost anywhere in the States for about $150. And there are/were lots of Videos on KZbin on how to make them Survival Food Gatherers. Dave Canterbury had a whole series on how to make them, how to convert them to Muzzle Loaders, Cut Shells, Wax Shells, blahblahblah. Oh, Helpful Hint Time. If one needs Lead, pick up a bag or two of #8 or #9 shot and melt that down into Slugs or Double Ought. It's already Premixed. Take Care.

Wow lovely old hammer gun, you got a new sub from Ireland 🍀 I came across a Russian pump action in a firearm dealer over here it was an MP something! I think and you would probably know it's the model the us wouldn't import, anyway I missed out on it 🙄and bought a mossberg 835, gun law is very strict here but a legal 3.5 chamber 5+1 was too good to miss out 😊

One of the things I like about Double barrel and single shot shotguns over pumps and semi-autos is that you can use cartridge adapters in them. I keep a single shot 12 Gauge, and have a large assortment of adapters which allow the use of many pistol and small rifle cartridges in that gun, thus greatly increasing its versatility. But, I don't know how well that would work in Russia, considering the restrictions on handguns and their ammo.

Enjoyed your vid. Love the old shot gun and hand made stock. In the states we call that generation around WWII The Greatest Generation. They have so many great stories and knowledge that is lost today. Both my grandparents served in WWII, it is interesting that both also owned and preferred 16 guaged shotguns. I wonder if that was the norm across the world for that generation. Fan from Louisville, Kentucky USA

(Texas, USA) If I was only allowed to have 1...Remington 12ga. Bolt action "goose gun" is the one of mine I would keep. It's chambered to fit any size 12ga. and I've had it long enough I can put a light load and a heavy load bird shot between my fingers and slap in the one I want. Get my limit of dove more often than many that way because I can reach out further that way. ( Just don't get them mixed up or it's just a poof! of feathers and I don't waste shells or meat.) 😊👍

Hey Lars! Good video with good story! And if only "meal maker" not supposed to take meal directly from other people in urban area, then simplicity is definitely the way to go

That's one beautiful old shotgun. A real beauty. I'd have to say a 22 and a shotgun are tied for meal makers in my opinion, but only because 22 ammo is so cheap, so small and easy to carry and stock. If not, I'd say the shotgun was a clear winner.

Yes, I saw one of Sergei's videos where he was hand loading those brass shells. Very fascinating! I'd like to try that myself. I have also a very simple single shot break action shotgun that could use those. It also has a very long barrel, and I think it is that long sight radius that makes it the most accurate shotty I own. It was also the cheapest shotgun I own, but I will never let it go.
