Saigon Alley Adventure for my Mom’s Birthday (Phu Nhuan District)

In this travel vlog I explore the alleys of Phu Nhuan District, Saigon, Vietnam. This adventure is in dedication to my Mom’s birthday.
My mom’s birthday is February 2, which is also Groundhog Day.
It’s always a bit sad living abroad so far away from family, but I hope this video brings my mom some joy on her birthday.
In terms of the alley exploration, these back alley communities of Phu Nhuan are quite bustling. There seems to be tons of commerce: people selling Vietnamese food, drinks, haircuts, manicures, Tet holiday decorations, and more.
There is also a large market nearby called Nguyen Dinh Chieu Market. This market seems to be the center of the surrounding community. I didn’t do much discovering into the market, but it seems like they sell lots of fresh food. Perhaps that’s a vlog for another time.
In any case, I had a lot of fun making this vlog exploring these alley communities of Ho Chi Minh City and dedicating the video to my mom.

I can remember seeing the manual juicers, which were cranked by hand. Before the proliferation of metal juicers, I imagine wooden rollers would have been used. Smashing the cane with a hammer would cause too much loss due to splashing.

We usually eating sugarcane by chop it up in small cubes, we chew the super cane until the juice is gone then spit it out, but later people come up with the machine to make the juices to drink , so now people don’t eat sugarcane anymore

We have sugar cane juice only after the machine invented, before that we cut sugar cane into small cubes and chew. them.

Before , there was no sugarcane juice machine - The seller makes sugarcane juice and presses by hands….. 🙌

Hello Tyler! In the past, people still used machines to squeeze sugarcane juice, but the machines did not use electricity but was manual machines and there will be a helm or a steering wheel on one side of the machine. I dislike the expression "Chinese New Year", because the whole of south east Asia celebrate the Lunar New Year, so it is not exclusively Chinese. Good for the Vietnamese people to call it by its Vietnamese name, Tet.
