Very informative video, as I am fitting up my canoe with a sailing rig. I like your rudder, and wonder if it is retractable for the shallows. However, it's a shame that there is music...

Now that is one heck of great idea! Using a ratchet strap to brace the mast against the metal pole and the seat to use as a mast step & support. I have those exact same style of seats in my canoe. How well did that ratchet system work out ?

With that small of sail did the canoe stay pretty well flat on the water or did it still heal?

I've had it in some heavy winds. Never had a problem with healing because it has such a small sail. 😉

Hey Man , I like what you did there . How did you come to the square footage of sail cloth to use ? , or , does it matter ? Does displacement matter ? I mean , I have an old fiberglass bass boat about that size , but it could weigh 5 times as much . Do I need 5 times the sail ? I'm so confused .
