9:21 the reason it turned loose is because of all the cabling that's unsecured. Believe it or not, it moving is enough to slowly back out the nut. Have seen it happen many times. From houses in earthquakes (yeah, that one was a massive shocker to me and my electrician), to big excavators with many hook ups to the positive terminal. The right way to do this is to have multiple tie points for all the stuff you have there, sorted by size and to point all the cables either up or down, securing them with wire clips. As is, the finger pointed at tie point is not ok and VERY important, tightening these nuts may be a solution, but there's only so much of that that you can do, before stuff breaks. I recommend having an additional tie point.

You may be the only couple in the Caribbean that actually measures out their ingredients for a rum punch. Everyone else (myself included) just kind of throw it together and adjust for taste. Whatever floats your boat!!! And thanks for the concise history lesson. The owners of Whaleboner restaurant in Bequai can provide the in-depth story for anyone interested in the rest of the story. You can actually count out the quantities as you Pour if you are an experienced Barman. a 3 count for a single, a 6 count for a double and then it's just a matter of how much of each ingredient. Even without a bottle spout it's a pretty accurate method when you get the hang of it. It is also great fun practising until you get it right. 🍻🍻🤣⛵️✨️✨️✨️

As a mobile equipment control system (electrical) engineer, we always recommend 7 procedural system wide (and I mean all) connection re-tightenings. If you can put a wrench or screwdriver on it, I suggest you go through the entire boat as part of your entire rebuild and new component shakedowns. Schedule to repeat it once every 2 weeks or so. Continue doing so at least 7 times, and until you find no connections even a little bit loose, especially considering you've replace the entire electrical systems. For convenience, next time you climb the mast, remember to take tools with you to double check the antenna connections. Explanation: Mobile equipment goes through periods of different vibrations types and harmonics, and what you are doing is seating those mechanical connections in their preferred physical position. Do not assume any non-solder/crimp connection you have made won't need to be checked multiple times before you can check it off your shakedown list for newly installed equipment.

Whilst in the BVI, my friend introduced me to Mount Gay rum. They have a variety of rums, light dark, XO.. in my opinion the XO is great on ice and the eclipse is really nice in mixes. Oh and if you haven’t tried it yet, dark rum,tonic water and a slice of lime is juste refreshing and sublime.

Locktite has an assortment of products to secure threads. Both permeate and temporary connections in brass or stainless. I've had great luck with them.

For 'Bolt and Nut' connections you won't be regularly loosening, use a cold chisel to deform the last thread above the nut. You will still be able to remove it, but it should never come loose on it's own... Retired Machine Maintenance Mechanic...

Ah, so that's why they had whale bones as chairs at the beach bar in Bequia. Hadn't read up on the local history when we visited back in 2018. We found lot's of great places in St.Vincent - Wish we had a dive compressor onboard, but the snorkeling was great too with a lot of sea turtles in the area. A basic rum punch recipe can be easily remembered by using the rhyme: One part sour, Two parts sweet, Three parts strong, Four parts weak. The sour ingredient is typically lime juice, the sweet is grenadine syrup, the strong is rum, obviously, and the weak is OJ, but use what you have/like. The rhyme as written makes a punch too sweet for my taste so I typically drop the sweet and weak proportions to taste.

Nice one . Glad you are enjoying the Caribbean . British TV program Time Team did a historical program of Nevis . My friend was sailing towards Montserrat , I think it was 1997 , when a volcano erupted and Roy and his mates could only breath by covering their heads with their tee shirts . They could not see at all anyway through the volcanic dust and bad air . All they could do was try to sail back where they had come from , as best as they could guess , until they could at least see the instruments again ! A very frightening experience for sure .

i own a light bouncy sailboat and other than me loose nuts on the boat are an issue. i solved this by using two nuts at each connection, the inside bolt holding the cable in place and a second locknut holding the first one in place.

a good rum fruit punch is oranges and lemons quartered and squeezed then thrown in the container, 4l fizzy lemonade which would be like sprite for americans, a tin of fruit salad with the syrup, pineapple tin or fresh, watermelon if you have it and a bottle of white rum. so basically anything fruity, rum and sprite/lemonade. ratios of ingredients measurements don't need to be accurate and substitutions can be made.

Sounds like you will be visiting a lot of Caribbean islands next season. The courtesy flags for each can get a bit expensive, but there is an online store that sells 20 flags (12"x18" size for $30- not sure of the quality but for short stays would be fine. Have fun heading south and if Grenada is your final destination ,there is a big cruiser community there riding out hurricane season.

Just watched Telu Tribe and this may come in handy for you guys: If weevils are already there, either MICROWAVE the offending food item for five minutes or DEEP FREEZE for two hours. Then, when clear, insert the BAY LEAVES (or VACUUM PACK (CRYOVAC) if this is possible). This is for pasta, flour, muesli, rice, biscuits etc., all grain products.

Having installed a completely new DC charging system with all new wiring on my boat, it always comes as a shock and disappointment when I find loose terminals later. Like, the main DC positive house battery terminal😱untightened halfway into the cruising season !!! Thought the batteries were dying due to poor charge acceptance!
