My adaptation of common crab claw sail. It is inexpensive, really easy to make and handle but surprisingly efficient and powerful. We had a lot of fun for less than 30 Euros :-) This sail was tested on different small boats at Zerdno Lake (Nowe Drawsko, Chata Toniego marina) and Drawsko Lake (Kusy Dwor; Poland). Sail area: 3.6 m2.

Thank you for watching and comment. To my present experience there is no reason for sail transfer. In my dinghy a crab claw sail is always on the port side of the mast.

What a great idea! The most expensive part of a sailboat to replace are the sails and rigging usually. But this makes a lot of sense. I wonder if I could adapt this sail, but a larger version, for a 23-24' Catamaran.

Extremely difficult to puzzle out the overall sail & panel material dimensions. Did i just miss this information ? Mucho applause the workmanship, But . . . . I want to copy your fine efforts. The Luft ? The Leech ? The Foot ?😎😎

See the beginning of this video. This sail was cut from one piece of rectangle fabric where two parts (obtained after diagonal cut) were combined together in such way that luft and foot are the same size of 3 m, approximately. This particular sail that by the way I am still using, have the area of 3.6 m2. On my channel there is also additional presentation concerning 8 m2 crab claw sail with more details as well as a gennaker sail, which was resized from Setka yacht (designed byJanusz Maderski).

This video does not explain why you chose the Crab's claw sail rig for your dinghy. Actually, it doesn't explain anything, which is a shame, because this simple rig seems to work very well. I am restoring a 3m rowing dinghy right now, and have an idea to install centre board, rudder and an unstayed mast and simple sail. So, lug, Gunter, spritsail, or maybe crab claw. Your video shows the sail's tack lashed down in a fixed position, so the luff is upright-ish, for close-hauled. I think from what pictures I have seen, the whole sail is re- angled downwards for sailing with the wind abaft the beam. Would love some tech info please! Nick.

Main reason that I am using a crab's claw sail is that such sail is based on simple flat surface. More data you may find on my videos which were published for season 2023/2024 and involved different types of crab's sails and rigging configuration on Phi^Phi dinghy. From principles, I am not explaining anything in any form, just presenting pure facts/data - you may interpret them as you like :-) Sail safe and good luck!

Chciałbym zrobić taki żagiel do mojego kanu. :)
@ZarzyckiRoSSY
@ZarzyckiRoSSY 2 жыл бұрын
Można z powodzeniem użyć plandeki i kijków bambusowych - to raptem kilkadziesiat zlotych, a frajda z plywania i eksperymentowania ogromna :-) Pozdrawiam serdecznie!

Pozdrawiam.

@@adamlisiecki6119 Jezeli bedzie plywak to juz inna sytuacja.

@ZarzyckiRoSSY

This type of sail is more suitable for shunting system, but you may try to use small crab claw sail instead tacking sail. There are number of examples on KZbin.

@@keeledover4218 Should be ok. My crab claw sails are based on 2:1 rectangle cut to the corners and re-sew together. It works well but obviously different ratios and shapes may be applied. I select this particular shape due to a "mathematical beauty" of such ratio, in my opinion :‐)

Niektórzy stosują materiał plandekowy i też daje radę.
