Hello, most welcome to support a new to me segment of the RC Hobby. I've been building and flying model Aircraft since 1965. I have collected over 100 Balsa kits to build after I retired. But the FAA restrictions stopped me from flying now. As a Sailplane enthusiast the height limitations and the fact that we need a transponder for our aircraft is really detrimental to our hobby. So I've recently purchased a Focus 2 and when pops saw it he said where is mine? So we now have a Focus 2, Focus 3 and 2 Seawinds. Getting custom made sails for the Focus boats as the factory ones are bit ugly. LOL. Now I just need to find a local place to sail them.

That looks like fun! Bart I rigged my Focus 3 this weekend and the main boom is too short for sail. All the way out to the end of the boom leaves it with a sail depth of 35mm. Boom appears same as focus 2 at approx 345mm. Did you experience this or am I missing something? Thank you!

I had the same problem and took one of the o rings off. The jib boom was switched with one from a Focus 2 as it is longer. John C. used a main boom set-up that was put together using a DF95 vang and boom. Bart ended up having some new sails made that were a little taller and skinnier. Inserting a 3/4 inch piece of carbon fiber tube above the vang collar on the mast made the mast taller. The mast is still strong enough. Bart also uses side shrouds, whereas Fred and John don't. We hope this helps!

I wish some expert would make a movie on tuning the Focus with all the measurements, like there are for DFs and IOM

Can the Focus do IOM as well?

We aren't sure. Barts our only team racer that even has an IOM and he isn't sure. His favorite thing to do is beat IOMs with his US1M. Is there any IOM experts reading this that can answer the question?

It is one meter long... Bart said you would have to add a pound or so of weight if you are using a Focus 2 bulb. Your mast and sails would have to be bigger and class compliant.
