Interesting to watch this video from two years ago. We recently completed our 14 day British Isles cruise on the Caribbean Princess...and will be cruising on Enchanted Princess next September. Caribbean Princess's food in the MDR was delicious. In fact, the steak there was better than the steak I received at Sabatini's. I'm hoping that Enchanted has improved over the past couple of years. I would surely think they must have since staffing levels should be back to normal and quality of food items available should also be better.

I was just on Enchanted Princess. Feb. 2023. I did not make any restaurant reservations ahead of time. We were able to get reservations everywhere including Crown Grill steak house. The Salty Dog Gastropub does not take reservations. Walk right in. It may have been the least used restaurant on ship. After eating there I think I know why. It was just so so. Italian restaurant was wonderful but have an appetite.

Having just returned from Sky Princess I must agree with your findings that the MDR food has declined significantly post C. With both uninspiring menu’s and limited choices (always available steak no longer) she really will have to up her game to compete. The International Cafe is a favourite of ours but with 3250 sailing, it was impossible to find a seat most of the time. We had great meals in both Sabatini’s and the Crown grill but had to eat at 5.50pm to secure a table, not ideal. As usual guys, a good balanced review, thank you. 🙏👍

Hello, thanks for your comment! It's so disappointing that this theme of deterioration when it comes to MDR's is so obvious, and common. Totally agree with your observation about the International Café; the only time we could get a seat was by going before 7am. During the day, it was packed and there was never anywhere to sit. You're lucky you got a table at Crown Grill. We tried booking weeks before through the Medallion App (god it's awful) - and once we finally got onboard, we discovered there was a waiting list of more than 150+ people, and that it sold out 4 months before. Where are you off to next?

@@sailawaymag Hi guys. Cruising wise nothing till ‘23 when we have a river cruise (Viking) in March and our first experience of Regent in May. I think a lot of people expect pre Covid standards from their chosen cruise lines but in truth, they’re still struggling to hit those heights being hampered with staffing and produce challenges. I fully agree! We just got back from the Ruby Princess, and we sailed on the Royal Princess in 2019 and was relieved to have confirmation that "it isn't just me." That feels the same way about the food post covid. I am a vegetarian and many places "were out" of their veggie options. It was disappointing being on a 10 day cruise.

Thanks for your video. We were thinking of changing and trying Princess. Seeing the food has made us rethink. We last cruised in November 2019 on a 28 day cruise. Had three other cruises planned 2020/21 but all cancelled. Got total refund as did not want our money tied up in their bank. Maybe we will try another holiday type if cruising companies have cut back on food standards now.

Hello, thanks for your comment and feedback! Yes, there has been considerable cut backs with many cruise lines unfortunately. While the speciality restaurants are generally very good, its a bit of a theme that main dining and buffet restaurants just aren't what they were pre-2020. Hope you manage to get back to cruising soon, we cant imagine not cruising! All the best :)

I'm cruising on Enchanted Princess now. I wish I could get off the ship daily and buy a Five Guys burger or even MacDonalds burger. The hamburger on Princess cruises is truly terrible. This terriblness has spread to the dining room steaks as well. The steak in the Crown Grille is very good. I wish I could buy an upgraded food package so I could be on par with American fast food. I have cruised with Princess since 1998 when the food was world class, but those days are gone. This is my last cruise 🎉 and I will not miss the "food."

Yes, we too were disappointed - particularly when there isn't a single option, seems mad in this day and age! P&O seem to be much better than Princess!

Didn’t enjoy my cruise on this ship, I felt it was overbooked, way too many people. The chairs and lounges were constantly taken and saved early every morning using towels. We couldn’t ever find a table in the cafeteria to sit at for breakfast or lunch, 2 people tied tables for 6 at every window seat, we had 6 in our party, it was bullshit! In my opinion, the staff should have made them move to smaller tables. The small pools were overcrowded and kids were doing cannonballs right next to us. Bottom line, with so many people the staff should’ve done more to accommodate the mass of people, but it was basically a free for all!! I’ll never select this ship again, I’ll go smaller with fewer people. Oh, also the bars were jammed with kids ordering Virgin drinks which backed up the bartenders, should’ve been a different location for kids drinks. Very disappointed!!

The gelato tastes awful. Not homemade but full of chemicals. Main dining, I agree, had gone down in quality and service poor. Meal in crown and grill was excellent.

The Crown Grill has always been good no matter what Princess ship we’ve been - very disappointing we couldn’t experience it this time round!
