Paul Ludlow has destroyed P&O in my opinion. Thank God my father is no longer here to see his beloved cruise line go down the toilet like this. I would never cruise with P&O again. Maleth was just the final nail in the coffin.

I worked as an engineering officer on cruise ships in the 70's, later as production/operations supervisor in oil & gas production, and chemical plants. All these jobs come with responsibilities, as many other jobs. You need to know what you are doing, this requires education/training, experience and detailed knowledge. Sea going jobs do not differ from onshore jobs in this aspect.

What a great interview! Our favourites are Ben and David, Uncle Jamie, Cruise Monkeys and Postcard and a Pint. All for very different reasons, they all bring their own personalities and style. Also! You defend yourself all the way Jamie! Horrendous comments reflect the person more than they reflect you guys! Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. “I think you failed your job as an influencer if you’re not willing to be critical.” 👏🏻 Love the whole vibe of this interview, individuality is so important and everyone should do what they are best at ❤ it would be boring if we were all the same! LA!?!? Really surprised by that, how horrible! Solo travellers have to pay an extortionate amount of money! Nathan‘s brother Nick almost pays double what we pay for a solo cabin….that is not fair! Amazing interview, all keep doing what you’re doing, keep your integrity! ❤

Thank you for your video. If people do their research they will be able to choose a cruise line rght for them. If you go on with too many expectations you are never going to be happy! People should just relax and enjoy themselves. Personally, I like Cunard not having speciality restaurants. The food is excellent in the MDR so I see no need to pay to eat elsewhere. Personal opinion obviously. Sadly 'extras' is becoming more popular and this takes away the beauty of paying in advance and then just enjoying your cruise. It also puts pressure on parents who then have to say No to their children when they want the extras!

It's always interesting listening to Simon. I have completed two cruises from Southampton with P&O. They were both very enjoyable.I don't know how they do it price wise. Good point Simon about room cleaning. I dont need my bed turning down either. As I am new to cruising, I dont have all the knowledge of how things used to be.If you are a seasoned traveller, how things are now may not suit you.

The most surprising thing that came up in this interview is that in 2024 there is still such a thing as "uncharted waters". I would have assumed that we had mapped all of the shallow water everywhere, if not all of it.
@sailawaymag
@sailawaymag 3 күн бұрын
No, not at all! And the water that is charted is charted differently, and should be considered differently. Some charted water is by wire sweep taken more than a century ago.
@sgartner
@sgartner 3 күн бұрын
@@sailawaymag I tried googling "wire sweep" and didn't find anything about that term relative to mapping waterways or oceans. I was assuming satellite mapping, SONAR, or LIDAR, at least for shallow water.
@sailawaymag
@sailawaymag 3 күн бұрын
It’s also referred to as wire drag. An archaic method, but still surprisingly common on admiralty charts and ECDIS displays.

I just returned from a TA voyage, it's a lovely ship. It was a little confusing at first, and I will admit I didn't realize that there was any other way to get to the Queens Room except via the Britannia dining room... The doors were always wide open all day so lots of us walked right through 😅

This is a most interesting interview/podcast. I spent ten years as a ship's cook in the 1980s and undertook all kinds of training courses, including sea survival, sea rescue, and the most extreme and intensive of all: firefighting courses. A fire on a ship at sea is without doubt the most dangerous situation posed to a ship, its crew, and its passengers if any passengers are on board that vessel.

Correct me if I'm incorrect, but wasn't Ambassador Cruises the metamorphosis of the failed CMV? They folded due to lack of financial reserves pre Pandemic. Even with the same Executives? And completing the purchase of ships actually destined for the failed CMV - hopefully they will be able to build up reserves and not go the same way as CMV. The two ships are getting old and more costly to maintain - a fair and interesting interview. Well done = but I wish Ambassador well

What a fantastic conversation. I will say this: The day buffet is the only option available without a charge is the day I reconsider my love of cruising. Ultimately, I could see one or two lines attempting this, but I don't see it as sustainable for the whole industry.

Interesting information. I am American, and I do like tipping system, because it encourages better service. If I think they have not done well by me - I’ll request no tip added to my final check. Many times I gave extra tip to my room steward for a great job, out of gratitude to them. We do notice that Europeans are super tight with their money. I think they criticize Americans out of inner sense of cheapness.

Having been on Arcadia 4 times in deluxe cabins , may I suggest going straight to stern cabins on A. B. and 2 on C deck. They have larger longer balconies , a lovely view , and an extra couple of feet in length between bed and settee. P. Murray

I think people new to cruising will have different expectations to seasoned, pre-pandemic cruisers. Carnival racked up 30 billion dollars plus in debt to get through the pandemic and it’s not entirely surprising they’ve had to trim offerings to stay afloat (pun intended). The alternative would be bankruptcy and to cease trading.

Cruises are like being a cubicle slave to international laws in a hotel that is junk.. like airlines acting like grabbing your sack and rubbing you down and giving you an intrusive scan and look at all your stuff and shove you in a crappy Greyhound that has shitty air and gets you sick and makes you uncomfortable and you lost all your rights is junk .
