An important tip for when your trying to prevent oil leaks is to use a product from Permatex called Ultra Black gasket maker. It sticks very good and cures to a rubber like texture and will prevent any future leaks. It has a hundred other uses where you need a semi flexible strong adhesive. Yes you could have eliminated the need for that gasket as well. An critical item to have it your tool kit! Nice Job and glad to see you posting again!!

You’re correct about scratching the surface where the seal goes. I had a mechanic put a little scratch there on my car. Tiny scratch, but leaked like hell.

Front crank seal... Harmonic balancer bolt or crankshaft bolt. Front crank seal. If you want to save some time next time... disable the engines ability to start (if you can...it's ok if it can't be easily done)...lock the socket on the crank bolt.. with no extension!!!! ,.place the breaker bar on the side of the engine that the crank is turning towards "you said clockwise."... basically...staring at it ..the right side... Place the bar against the engine support frame, bump it over until it touches...bump-bump-bump-it-again ... Bolt will back out.

Notch in crankshaft pulley is called "Key-way" and watch out for half-moon shaped "Key" that locates the pulley. Use of a gasket sealant on both sides of the NEW gasket will properly seal & prevent gasket damage from expansion & cooling cycles. Did you use torque wrench for final tightening up of crankshaft pulley set-screw or Breaker Bar, extension & socket set-up to torque value FT..!? What happened to water pump leak repair - seal & impeller replaced or complete water pump..!?

And when using rtv? Always use the newer grey rtv It hardenens better than the old soft blue and black. Or. On seals like this, use gorilla snot....aka...3m weatherstripping adhesive in a tube.. Be careful. It's impossible to get off ANYTHING. But, if you have everything spotless, and the seal is clean and dry, you will never get a leak around the outside of the seal to the timing cover

Hey thanks for explaining some of the routine maintenance. A lot of people just show paradise and beautiful scenery with their videos. You are always informing your audience and it's much appreciated! Also your video editing skills are awesome. You may have to stop sailing and go work for Universal Studios. Have you ever done any editing professionally? I think I would prefer the ocean over a time clock any day. 👍

I’m loving your videos, so informative! I have a couple questions on this one. 1) How did you know it was the gasket that needed replacing and not some other issue? 2) How did you know that that one piece (bolt?) on the pulley needed to be turned counterclockwise to be loosened? Is that because the belt turned clockwise?
@jaybee-54814 жыл бұрын
retired mechanic here, while there are always exceptions to the rule where the use of a proper maintenance manual will help, generally all nuts/bolts are "righty tighty lefty loosey"
@sarahadams79194 жыл бұрын
JayBee if this isn’t some mansplaining 🙄 Obviously I have heard of “righty tighty lefty loosey,” why comment that if you aren’t even going to answer my question, just to waste my time? I’m asking why that did not apply here and how he knew.

@@sarahadams7919 just seeing your reply now for some reason but I did answer your question - I said the use of a proper maintenance manual will advise you of exceptions to the rule and just to be clear which rule I was talking about I referenced righty tighty lefty loosey so that there was no ambiguity in what I was saying but hey, good job for blaming me for your lack of reading comprehension. No good deed goes unpunished...

I have always liked sailboats and I want to have one and I would like you to do me a small favor; could you make a video explaining, depending on your experience, how much the monthly or annual maintenance of a sailboat like yours.

Why on earth would the engines use saltwater as a coolant. Salt erodes everything. Why not use a normal coolant system with DexCool or something similar?
@brendoncoss39854 жыл бұрын
What they are failing to say is that your three-quarter inch socket set that they got there not 1/2 inch or 3/8 they have a three-quarter inch socket set

A easier way to do that is get you a 3/4 inch impact wrench and if you don't have the capability of air get your electric impact wrench Milwaukee has a beautiful impact Ridge and so does Harbor Freight which is half the price of Milwaukee but it is 1300 foot pounds of torque and they had to take that boat right off that there are struggling with and trying to brace this and that they're not mechanics and I am

The only way to really learn is to do it. Here is how: Remove screws from water pump impeller cover (be careful not to damage gaskets (or be prepared to replace gaskets)), take out old impeller, put in new impeller; replace gasket, water pump cover and screws. Done.
