Another nice video, well done. A few more days and you could be in the Abacos. If you decide to come across the gulf stream, let us know and we'll share what worked for us. Come to Hope Town, the weather is warm and the Kalik is cold.

You guys are great! Love all your videos--but the newer ones are getting even better. Yes that spot at Isle of Palms is baaad. Saw an ~80' Army Corps boat/ship grounded there couple of weekends ago. Maybe he was testing to see if it really needed dredging. LOL!

Southern tugs always take their half out of the middle, I found that if I didn't squeeze to the side right away they would give me some room. If they pass really close then their bow wave would turn me towards them. I carried 6 ft draft and would bump the bottom trying to stay off them. I always stayed away from them on tight turns and once a boat passed me when I stopped to give them room and he ended up buried in the tall grass. 19 year liveaboard several trips up and down ICW.

great job guys - look forward to each of your updates (laughed at your bridge keeper impression tonight). What has been your biggest challenge and/or the most unexpected thing you have had to deal with? Two inches of snow and 24 degrees here today in Trainer, PA - on the Delaware River. Hope your weather has improved and you have a chance to take the jackets off soon.

You Three are doin good....obviously you are much further south than your videos indicate but the main thing is you are getting close to warmer weather. Well kinda sorta..... Down here in Jacksonville it will be almost 70.today it's .68 at 1:30 but tonight it's going to be in the low 40's. High tomorrow of 63 with low of 27....the Front will pass and be back up to 60 Sat...Sun 72..... Keepa Smilin.....Life is Good....

I believe 65' with variations depending on tide. Always check the charts though! :)

Tuttle Causeway Bridge in Miami is 54ft from memory. All the others are 62 to 65ft. You can sail outside in the Atlantic to avoid the Tuttle though.

How did you guys get to the ICW without going through the Dismal Swamp? I'm about to make this passage for the first time South all the way to Miami and I've been told that Dismal is the only way to connect with the ICW from the Chesapeake. I'd really appreciate your input...
@WickedSalty8 жыл бұрын
Great Bridge route to coinjock/ Albemarle and Chesapeake canal, there's two ways great bridge or dismal swamp. Dismal swamp is I believe a lot more shallow. You leave Chesapeake bay through the main part and enter Norfolk Virginia, then start the ICW in Portsmouth Virginia and take Great bridge route. It's the main route on ICW charts, We used traveling the AICW by Kettlewell, latest edition.

I've seen half of the videos. I command you two on your spirit of adventure. However... The trip through the Bay's, anew York, the channel... It's an amazing and fun route. So if you are open to suggestions, please try to heed to the following: This are not videos about your sail adventures. These are videos about YOU! From a marketing point of view, the viewer sees your face telling a story 84% of the time, even when the subject matter is passing by... You have three great advantages: 1- Your clear voice... We understand what you say... 2- An amazing spirit to do what you wanted and all the background you need for dynamic quality videos! 3- You have got your secret weapon. Kate! Let her be more in the recordings. Let her be part of the crew. Not part of the fixtures. She is beautiful, smart, she sounds like a woman with purpose, and that voice!!! Right away you know she is not a dumb blond. She can increase your viewer spectrum... And when you are filming, pan the camera away from your face. That gives your audience the chance yo see what you see. Have the same feeling you have. Talk and explain, so they can experience your environment. Try taking videos of your surroundings, then edit them over with your voice describing the moment. The whole thing it's nice, but if people want to see a face for more than 80% of the time on the film... I think we'd feather see Kate.

Based on your Video you must be in Charleston, SC or beyond by now. I wish you guy's had called me before so I could give you some helpful hints on the Ditch water depths. Maybe you could avoid grounding. If now in Charleston Give me a call or leave a message and I will call you. I have been following your videos since the beginning. I can really help with local information.

Isle of Palms was the WORST for depth! But luckily my Dad just moved to Charleston a year ago and I had been warned, but all you can do is go slow in those occasions. We stayed with my dad at Charleston for a little less then a week, have since relocated to St. Augustine, FL... much warmer! Stay tuned for the Charleston videos to come!

Why did you buy a sail boat if all you ever do is motor around? You would have 6 times the room if you were in a power boat of the same size. Plus you'd never need to be freezing your butts off in nasty weather.
@smacksman110 жыл бұрын
Sailboats have smaller engines so cheaper to run. Not many places where power boats can really open their taps - lot of 'no wake zones' restricring all craft to under 6 knots in the south. Sailboats can have heaters/aircon too.
@WickedSalty10 жыл бұрын
***** Every sail boat that passes us on the ICW is under power only. I think the first boat that passed us under sail was yesterday on the ICW (in Florida) There are many stretches of the ICW that restrict you to sail. Sorry for the let down.
@WickedSalty10 жыл бұрын
Do you know how much more $ you spend on fuel in a power boat, besides sailboats are cooler :P

I have the feeling you guys have Just a little amount of cabin lights onboard. Why don't you install some led lighting. It is cheap and uses Just little power. It Will make life on board much nicer in my opinion. And if you are afraid of a drained battery Just buy a second one Just for lights and stuff. And buy a solar panel
