Thanks David, Hope you enjoy the catching up .... we will continue to put new ones out there. For the best sailing we think the following are the best of ours: St.Lucia to St.Vincent, April 2018; Antigua to USA, June 2018, USA to Bermuda, Nov 2018, Bermuda to Antigua, Dec 2018 .... and the one we are about to publish (Sailing Montserrat) is pretty good too.

Great aerial video shots of Bristol which like the rest of Rhode Island looks beautiful. I am so impressed with the cleanliness of your yacht which reflects on the work you both put in to maintain the high standard. Regarding the sailing shots your absolutely right great work. Cloudy Bay is just romping through the waves., again that’s down to your knowledge of trimming your sails. Thank you for your videos.

So I’m a dinghy sailor and am not familiar with furling in the head sail to make a tack. Is that done to make things less dramatic? It’s nice that you showed the tack. I watch many of the KZbin sailing channels, and they devote very little to actually sailing. Thanks.

To avoid the front headsail from getting caught in front of that inner stay? I’m presuming that’s the case.
@SailCloudyBay
@SailCloudyBay 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Bobbie, Thanks for the comment. when a yacht is rigged like a dinghy (nothing between forestay and mast) it can be tacked like a dinghy. But on a yacht like ours, that also has a inner forestay (or cutter stay as its called) the genoa will not "blow" between the tight slot between the 2 forestays when tacking. Hence it needs to be furled away to go through the eye of the wind. Painful! and we wont win any races on a boat like ours! But, when the wind comes in strong, the cutter sail makes an excellent foresail with the genoa rolled away. And, if/when we sail with the cutter sail only, then we can tack like a dinghy. I hope that explains what you observed.

Such a nice sailing video. My only question is what is the reason for tacking with reefed main and full genua instead of jib and full main?
@SailCloudyBay
@SailCloudyBay 3 жыл бұрын
Michael, It seems She sails much better upwind, in those conditions with a full genoa. With full main and jib there would be too much weather helm

Wish I new you were going to be in my hometown, I could have answered any questions you might have had. Bristol has an incredible American history along with a very old and famous boat building/ racing history.

Have you had any trouble with your in mast furling system?
@SailCloudyBay
@SailCloudyBay 6 жыл бұрын
It is very “technique” sensitive, mainly because of the full length vertical battens - we have to make sure they go into the mast parallel to the mast otherwise it can get jammmed, boom angle is critical. And for the first 2-3 meters, I pull it out by hand until the wind fills it and pulls it out. This is because the hydraulic outhaul is too powerful to trust it to pull out smoothly at the initial unfurling. We have got the sail stuck a couple of times but always manage to get it out OK. Fingers crossed! Because a jammed mainsail, half in half out would be an absolute nightmare.

"The exhaust nearly falling off". Pretty shoddy peace of work from the manufacturer I must say. For your yacht is (I gather) still quite new.
@SailCloudyBay
@SailCloudyBay 6 жыл бұрын
The boat is 10 years old now. So these kind of issues are kind of normal. For example, a 10 year old car would be doing well to have its original exhaust still intact. Granted the usage is less, but the toxic corrosion gases start their nasty work from the first day its used. But yes, it was a failure I could have done without!

My apologies, I got the impression from your video's that the boat was of a more recent build. Please consider this as a complement.

I droped my wallet off that bridge ALABAMA drivers licance. I think in 1988 or 89 working for Maryland painting Industry. my brother was born there while my father was working on that bridge, about 20 years befor me. If you drive over the bridge make a right on the island go down the road on the right was a small bar, and a bartend a kind HONEST man named Joe he switched my sparkplug wires around on my Motorcycle so it wouldn't start I had to much to drink. I slept it off in the Bridge Superintendents truck befor going on my way. I think the name of the place was Sun and sands bar that might not be right thow. Young & people looking out for people and loving others like themselves. Thank you for taking us along with you.
