Ahh, brings back happy memories. Cruised the coast of Maine for ten years in an Alden schooner 50 years ago, and Seal Cove on Vinalhaven was a favorite anchorage. Oh, and don't let the fog stop you. We ran lead, log and lookout - run your course, mindfull of the depth, then shut down the engine and listen, you'll hear your mark. I've many a tale of navigating in the fog. Great shots of my beloved coast of Maine. Thank you.

We’re so glad you enjoyed the video! What an experience it must have been sailing in Maine for 10 years. I’m sure you discovered many hidden gems. We were initially daunted by the fog but slowly we got used to navigating in it. Thanks for watching!

Lots of folks commenting on the terrain reminding them of somewhere.😀 To me, it has a bit of the look of my beloved San Juan’s and BC Canada area. Especially with that foggy vibe we’re so well known for. Great video, thank you! Cheers from Anacortes…

Beautiful video, so glad you got to come to Vinalhaven. I am in my house here right now:). Just want to say that the class stuff is a bit more complex than just working class vs. Wealthy. There are fishermen here making 12-20k a month. Many families control land and the waterfront. Their boats could be worth almost $1 million. As they are self-employed they get great tax breaks on everything like their trucks etc. Many “working class” people here are probably wealthier than some of the people who own summer homes and come from away. Just wanted to share a bit more of the nuance of these places. Also, North Haven has poverty too. It’s not all wealthy people there. I love both islands and the people in them ❤.

Well, I breathed a sigh of relief! You made it safe, shot some beautiful video- ran into typical Northern New England fog, got to hear the sounds of real fog horns & got a touch stir crazy waiting for the weather to change! You've genuinely 'done' a true Maine sail- congratulations! I'm glad that you choose to pick some local islands & harbors to explore instead of North Haven and/or Vinalhaven- besides, I think they mostly close up after the Holiday weekend? (Maybe October 12th is really the drop dead date though?) You've earned a true notch on your sailing belt with this trip, now all you have to do is avoid shoals &/or grounding opportunities heading South again! Check out the Piscataqua River (Portsmouth), Rye Harbor or the Merrimack River (Newburyport, MA) to finish off the local coastal community. Welcome to my home, you seem to be getting 'local'- great effort! Dave

Beautiful scenery! I'm amazed at the lack of buildings, ect, so nice to see unspoilt countryside. In parts of Scandanavia, the land is still rising at up to 1cm a year, after being "squashed" by the glaciers! Cool crusing ground, hope the autopilot gets fixed soon. Have fun.

It's tough to beat Penobscot Bay for an amazing cruising vacation. Born and raised in Maine, as an adult sailed the Maine coast from end to end, yet spent most of my 30-years sailing Penobscot Bay. I hope you don't stop there, yet continue East to Frenchman's Bay, including Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Somes Sound.which had the only (or one of the very few) fijord in North America. . In Vinal haven,there is a real hurricane.storm hole...Perry Creek. Spent many a time there. BTW in Maine and a storm I skittles prefer to be using my own anchoring tackle than a mooring unless I knew the weight of the mooring.✨ ✌️ 🙂
@HarborsUnknown3 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard! We agree, Penobscot Bay is absolutely amazing! We did go to Northeast Harbor which you'll see in our next couple of episodes. :) We did know the weight of the mooring and Fabio jumped in to check it out visually.

Another great video of the inside US For me , Maine is famous for changing leaves in autumn Your bayside approach always provide me the curiosity of another aspect. How does Kristin make the explanations of Maine history, which was wonderfully easy for me to understand And how do you film both of you guys from the sky ? The drone seems like operating automatic ? I don't think there's any part of the Maine coast that isn't stunning. What a playground for sailors for the few months of summer. I've been to that Penobscot area by car but hadn't seen anyone showcase the view from a boat. So many quiet coves nooks and crannies to explore.

We agree, the Maine coast is gorgeous! Even just different times of the day as the tide rose and fell revealed new places.

I sailed in the days before auto pilot. No Auto Pilot? No problem! :) I hope you get yours fixed. I thought pulling into port to avoid the weather would have given you enough time to have gotten it repaired - Have you tried rebooting it after powering it down for a few minutes, checked the fuses, etc?
@HarborsUnknown3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for you comment and for watching! The hydraulic RAM of the autopilot was leaking oil and needed to be replaced, we sent it back to B&G (under warranty) and they are sending us a new one. It’s taking a long time with all the delays in supply chain. It was good to hand steer, it forced us to pay attention, trim the sails to balance the boat as best as possible, and get in the groove with the vessel.

NICE EPISODE! What is the current update on the auto helm/steering? have you got the parts yet and if so when will you have them installed? Maine looks great. I'd love to sail and explore more around there too. Fair winds...
@HarborsUnknown3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Unfortunately the auto pilot is still out of commission. B&G asked us to send our RAM to them and they would send us a new one. First they were supposed to get them in stock August 27th, then September 10th and now September 24th. Fingers crossed 🤞 they get them on the 24th and can ship us one. We loved Maine! The rugged natural beauty was something new for us. You should definitely try to make it there. 😊
