Did you think about heaving to at any point? That method may help keep the green water out of the cockpit! Fair winds!
@SailingSunday2 жыл бұрын
Yes a few times lol! By the time we got the mainsail unstuck, back in and regained control of the boat everything felt much better. If it was going on until sunset we definitely would have heaved too though overnight and got some rest.

I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for one of the other boats to be sailing and experiencing dolphins and whales and you are motoring to an open ocean. I was thinking how great the enclosed cockpit was until it was flooded by a wave. Maybe, next time, button ALL of the snaps on the enclosure?🤗
@SailingSunday2 жыл бұрын
Haha yes how awesome for them! The enclosure was so awesome to have!! Just not well suited for a jammed main sail all the way out during a 40+knot storm with heavy seas lol 😆
@jaxmaria2 жыл бұрын
That storm ⛈ was scary… I would freak out! or cry a lot 🤣
@SailingSunday2 жыл бұрын
It was mainly scary because we literally motored for 36hours straight to get in front of it before it started and judging by our GFS and ECMWF forecasts we had already beat it… Then it hit so suddenly we were scared because we didn’t know how large it was as the forecasts were wrong!
@cathyryno45422 жыл бұрын
Soooooo just asking but do you all plan on Living onboard a while once you cross the Atlantic? Of course, when we cross it be a few years yet; and will be opposite of your travels! Lol 😂 but it’s the dream to cross Atlantic. We plan to Liveaboard a few years; get Certified and use to our Tiny Home big sailboat ⛵️ lol 😂 and sail here and yonder. The dreams and plans are endless:)

Yes, we have lived on our boat full time with the exception of a few weeks back in December 2019. The plan is to sail back home to Australia ❤️

Serious question. Hand steer 4 hours through that storm? Or be stuck with an hour drive ahead of you to a restaurant and Brittni is already showing signs of being hangry? Which do you choose?

I really can not believe this.. This far south: (1) storms, lightning, rain squals are not normal (2) "no wind" is not normal neither. You should have had stable trade winds for the whole passage. That is how it was on our previous Atlantic passage in 2006, and also what we had pretty much, being 2-3 weeks ahead of you guys, this year. And yet I heard from all other in our flotilla who left together with you, they were all battling the elements... I guess that's climate change for you. Down to 14-15º South, it should have been constant wind, stable weather, and pretty boring,... Well, eat your heart out, the most it really rained for us, was like for 10 minutes. We had, I think, water splashing onto the deck like twice, a full drops.. Never a full wave. Leave alone splashing the cockpit. (well ok the helmsman got a few minor splashes but that was more a roque wave. Anyways. happy you made it through ok!!!
