I think for me the reason why I find your channel so nice is that you are a couple of lads from Wales who don't pretend to be anything else, sailing the world and showing us the true highs and lows of the reality of it. I honestly hope you carry on going from strength to strength and look forward to watching that materialise :) Fair winds 🌏

An extremely interesting documentary. As someone who spent a lifetime at sea, a lot of what you said brought back memories. Sailing in the 1970's on long ocean crossing in the MN had quite a few similarities. Dreaming and talking of food being one and also that semi crazy feeling you get as you near your destination. In Merchant Navy terms this was called 'The Channels" the excitement of nearing the end of a trip (ie coming up the English Channel after a long absence) I was also so glad you mentioned the night sky, there is something simply amazing to see a clear night mid pacific whose beauty simply cannot be properly described. Well done to both of you and particualy the comment about making the decision to change your life, just what I did as a 17 year old back in the 70's, something I never regretted

I couldn't believe it when I stumbled on your video. When I was 18 in 1977 I crewed out on a 40' boat, the Tregallis. The skipper was English, emigrated to New Zealand and he needed 2 crew to sail from Panama to New Zealand. The first thing I noticed is when you were tracing your route due South from Panama to the coast of Ecuador to pick up the trades and then turning due West. We followed the exact same route. We stopped at Nuku Hiva and Oa Pou. Then to Rarotonga and New Zealand. We even caught fish near the Galapagos like you did. You made my day. I scanned through your video for highlights because I'm in the middle of some chores, but I've got it saved so I can enjoy it later with a drink or two. Fair winds and following seas.

Still laugh at the fact that Adam can’t spell Equator on his hat and the fact the Luke couldn’t help but eating a bit of Neptune’s cheese whilst cutting it up down below!! Not sure how you kept sane but it’s amazing to think that a couple of lads from Wales ended up sailing half way round the world in a beautiful Rival 34 - she’s really looked after you! I have only had a short preview of this but thank you so much for putting this together. The number of hours you must have put into this will have been enormous probably several weeks (I have relatives in the film industry and remember many years ago one making a lager tv commercial and they spent a day getting the condensation on the bottle to run down it the way the director wanted - the olden days!) so thank you so much. As others have said what makes your episodes / channel so special is your honesty - this is us as we are. Thank you.

I had to comment a little more after watching the full video. There were so many similarities between your trip and the one we made 1977. We also saw lots of logs and driftwood off the coast of Ecuador. We saw a giant tree floating crown up, trunk down. I can't imagine what that would have done to an aluminum hull. This was a shoestring operation. The skipper built the boat himself out of aluminum from material that may have been "liberated" from a factory where he worked in the UK. Once we got in the trades our rig stayed the same for days, similar to you. We rigged wing on wing with what I think we called a whisker pole on the genoa. We only caught fish once, 3 or 4 at once, either wahoo or king mackerel. It was too much to eat before it spoiled so we tied strips to the rail where it dried and got a natural salting. We flavored our beans and lentils with it, or just gnawed a piece now and then. I remember also how hard it was to walk on land. We felt seasick on land when we got to Nuku Hiva. We were also loaded with gooseneck barnacles. When you made that bread in the skillet it reminded me of the cornbread that we'd make. It didn't rise, it came out flat and crispy and we'd eat it with jam. The skipper navigated solely by sextant, which he had recently been taught by a friend. If we'd lost him the Canadian and me would have been done in. We blew out a gasket in the head a week in and had to hang it over the side the rest of the way. The engine was an old Lister diesel that you had to start with a crank. The gear box was broken, no neutral or reverse. If you were coming off a mooring in a current you had to untie, crank, and hope to have power before you collided with another boat. I'm looking forward to more of your videos. They're a lot of fun to watch. The sailing makes it great but you 2 guys are fun to watch also.

WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT !! YOU TWO FINE YOUNG MEN have proved yourselves firstly to yourselves and secondly to each other. As you both so eloquently put it The Voyage of Atlas has been a life changing endeavour. I would suggest 'character building' as well. I'm sure that the world will be hearing from you two men again as you find new adventures for yourselves but I believe your circumnavigation of this "pale blue dot" to quote that other great explorer, Carl Sagan has been the one to slip your moorings. These are the words ĥe chose to describe our planetary home Gaia, herself a voyager through Space to some unknowable rendezvous with destiny. Before I realised this was going to be your final episode I had compiled a list of suggestions for you to consider going forward but they can wait for now until you rejoin us all! Go well Luke and Adam!
