Ocean is a hell in winter months. This boat is much more safer than a loaded cargo ship. Cargo means stress on the hull. Huge waves can cause penetration in the cargo holds. I always tried to work between March and November. But sometimes I failed and screwed.

Hi interesting story. Would having the main sail up reduce the rolling? I noticed that you do not use the rear sail much is there a reason. Is sailing new to you or have a lot experience before taking off across an ocean.
@SailingAloneAcrossTheOcean Жыл бұрын
Hi mike. I started this journey 2020. You find more about me on reykja.ch/en/the-author/ . I think it sails less rolly with two foresails instead of one foresail and the mainsail. I didn't experiment with the midden sail in this condition so far. Maybe it would stabilize - as one comment suggested.

I think I'd imagine the 100s of feet of water below me. That distance of vast darkness below would freak me out, haunt me for a while. The distance to land would make me feel alone, infinitesimal, being tossed about pell-mell. And wondering ... is the land still there? Or maybe I've crossed through a wormhole to a different uninhabited world, a world entirely covered by sea. Land exists only in my memory. But finally after a week (hopefully) reason would return & I'd start feeling the wonderment of it all.
