Sailing Alone from Azores Portugal to England | STORM

Sailing from the island of Corvo in the Azores (Portugal) to Hamble, on the south coast of England on a SHE 31 built in 1968.
We're Dan and Meraid and together, after spending 2 months sailing around the 9 islands in the Archipelago, part of a year long sailing trip where we met, we set sail for England and a new life together.

UPDATE
In 2020, we finally made the decision to become Portuguese residents and bought our first property together in central Portugal. We’re documenting our story of restoring the abandoned land and eventually the beautiful stone house.

Hello there, I just came across your channel and I love it. Question for you why main land Portugal and not the Azores? My husband and I are looking into buying a property in Azores, but mainland is also an option.

The Azores are a bit too windy and exposed in the winter and property is more expensive. It’s not so easy for family to visit due to limited flights.

on a scale 1 to 10 (1 being a beginer sailor 10 being expert) . what would be min experiance level someone should be too attempt this trip? ..... min size vessel? 35ft? .... thanks for the upload

Well, the boat we had was 31 feet. Dan was a professional sailor and I had already done a double handed Atlantic crossing and had 10,000 miles completed (almost a newby). With only two people, the watches are the most difficult. We did 3 hours on and 3 off. We had tough conditions for a few days but it is really difficult to give you numbers on a scale. We are both technically minded and can fix things.

Portuguese they were Exploreres I guess you going to became explorer too.
