Good to see you back . Not sure what the Arabic on the hillside says, but it could be the same as the text on the hillside at Agadir on the south Atlantic coast of Morocco. The Agadir text says "God, Country King" , showing the order of priority and that the people come before the king!

Great videos, thank you for taking the time to produce them!! I've been following along from Seattle. We also looked at the Bestevaer 45 --> "Africa" that you looked at many videos ago (she is still for sale BTW). For the moment we are sticking with our trusty 38' Cape George, but I *definitely* like the Garcia 45! I also appreciated the galley deep dive. Do you ever have second thoughts about keeping the propane, and not going 100% electric? We have propane on our Cape George, and it is excellent to cook with. However, I often think how nice it would be to be 100% electric from a safety and "sourcing" standpoint. Thank you again, I love following your journey.
@sailingchloe23304 жыл бұрын
yes. We agree with you. Electric cooking would be great. .. if we had a little more electrical power&energy we'd consider induction hob. But it would be a bit tight in some cases. (A single 13Kg Propane tank lasts about a year - and we have space fo 2x) . We also didn't know of a cooker that had a built in inverter - and didn't want to run an additional 3KWatt inverter to power one. We do appreciate the propane safety and CO2 concerns though. I think if you beefed up the inverter to 3K-->5Kwatts and added batts 10.8Kwatthrs --> 13Kwatthrs.. and increased solar panel max power 1.1Kwatts -> 1.3Kwatts, it would be a comfortable fit. We REALLY wanted to stay away from gensets at all costs - as they represent a continuous maintenance headache. So it was an 'on the edge' kind of decision for us. Retrospectively, we're still not 100% sure of which would be the best.... we'd need to test more in high latitudes with little sun.
@tgwhelan4 жыл бұрын
@@sailingchloe2330 Thank you so much for the response and information. I couldn't agree more on gensets! I used to have a small 1-cylinder Kubota diesel that was connected to an alternator to generate power. It created a hell of a racket, and had a surprising amount of maintenance problems for what should have been a pretty simple unit. I got rid of it off a few years ago. Thanks again for your videos, I love following your adventure. Chloe is a beautiful boat!

SOUND ISSUES To solve you noisy wind issues there is an easy solution! Take B-Roll sound clips (with basic phone recorder) of your boat sailing through various wind and water conditions. Just simple 10-20 seconds and well sorted out on you hard drive by windage, waves types..etc At editing, simply replace de noisy voice with voice over recording and add on a separate sound tracks with the wind and waves sounds..while controlling levels....Easy as apple pie as you say in the USA! Cheers

Good show guys, Tx. Enjoyed the Galley summary. Could do with less music, or at least lower vol and less beat please. Convinced me to repair the 12v on our transom. PS: Many transducers can be removed from inside, to chase out the all too common critters and plants. Might be yours can also.

Thanks for critique. We'll adjust the tunes. yes, we can easily unscrew the paddle wheel from inside. We'll do it before next leg.

Enjoying your channel! I'm often curious as to the practicality of a long galley that has no support forward or aft. Do you find it difficult to brace from a pitch down the face of a swell or vice versa? A sudden forward pitch could send you into the forward cabin with broken bones or torn ligaments, etc. Thanks
@andre_renard4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for including the sections on ship systems! I enjoy seeing all the things you've done to optimize electrical production and usage. For a future video, I'd be interested to see what the storage below the raised salon is like. I know on the 52 they put a small room under the salon, but I haven't seen anything on what that space is used for on the 45. Do you get a lot of space, or is mostly for technical systems/tanks?
@sailingchloe23304 жыл бұрын
Hi, no there is no small room on a 45. Only wiggle room for a lightly lubricated, skinny person to access systems. It's full of tanks, filters, pumps, pipes. but there are sizable dedicated hold also. Accessible from sole plates. One in particular is useful as a hold - as a large singular volume for storage- given our 900amp.hrs of batts in 3 banks, we have used up a considerable amount of volume in what would other wise be available as storage space. ... but is still plenty for 2 people.. note we have no generator or washing machine. So there is large amount of storage available in the tech locker, aft of the steps.

Thank you for your videos. I love the Garcia 45 boats and hope to have one some day, lottery gods willing :) If I can make one small suggestion though. You should try to limit your camera panning. It's hard on the eyes to follow. Stick to a good frame on a wide angle, zoom in on details, then zoom out back to the wide angle. If you're going to pan the camera, do it as slowly as you can, on a wide angle. Never while zoomed in.

@@sailingchloe2330 Yes, Cockney Rhyming slag for male genitalia. Or a type of confectionery traditionally sold at seaside resorts which is hard and sweet and has the same writing all the way through. Graham Greene used it as title for a book , which in the novel is used as a metaphor for the personality of the main character Pinkie, which is the same all the way through. And he is very cocky of course. But not a geographical feature.

The wrapper on the boat makes it looks really good. Is purely for looks though? I recall in the build episodes that you thought it might last 5 years? How is it going and how do you expect it to degrade? Thanks.
@sailingchloe23304 жыл бұрын
I would say it's mainly for looks as the alternative is lacquered Aluminum which doesn't seem age that well. The Vinyl at least allows a refresh every few years. As far as how well aging is going, it's holding up well on the whole, Except for the scuffs we have had with other boats hitting us, or rubbing up against floating dock's rub rails or some nasty hard rubber bumpers. In the near future, when docked along side somewhere, we'll make a vinyl patch and a video of what's involved. We carry a roll of patching vinyl for this very purpose.

Hi - I am following your videos with great interest - I am myself interested in a Garcia Exploration 45 - looks like a great boat ! what is your average cruising speed - is it similar to same sized fiberglass sail boats ? Like the hull color - can Aluminium hulls also be painted ? If I may ask - how much is wrap ? Thank you - Egbert
@sailingchloe23304 жыл бұрын
yes. Seems to be about the same as a regular frp. Depending on... ..... Chloe's heavy at 16tones + she's loaded up with stuff. Down wind and up wind she's a 5knot plodder, but when reaching she wizzes! In 20 knots of wind & reaching at 60~90 degrees, she's happy at 8~9knots. Different to an FRP boat, she sees to cut through waves, as opposed to bouncing over them. ie. She's very steady and easy to sail.
