I am really enjoying your voyages, and of course your good scot humour. I would like, if you get a chance, for you to do some videos of the systems on your vessel. I would really like to see an engine check. I am sure you would appreciate the need to be able to access areas for changing filters, impellers etc. and most boats make it really difficult if you are not double jointed. Thanks and greetings from Niagara Ontario Canada.

Hi Dawn, Peter. Thanks for this video and all the work that goes into making it. Much appreciated. Re the cats, some of which owned people and some of which didn't I'm sure, did you detect a sense of tolerance within the community for their presence, given their qualities as good mouse and rat catchers in city settings? History is on their side. :-)
@007peteh5 жыл бұрын
Yes. We really enjoy cultures that live 'along side' their cats. Watching a policeman leave to food & water for cats is a refreshing change to the purely ownership based model of the West. And yes, not a mouse in sight! And.. of course we feel privileged to be allowed, by the cats, to live in the same spot as we all know down deep that 'they are actually all in charge'...

Great videos! You mentioned a 1 day reset in regards to the EU Schengan visa. I’m aware of no such thing (from the USA). Can you guys devote some time in a future video to discuss the Schengen strategy for cruisers? It certainly poses a problem for slow cruising plans. Thanks in advanced!
@007peteh5 жыл бұрын
Yes. It was not very clear in this video. What we 'meant' was that Morocco allows us to stay for 3 months at a time and we can reset this Moroccan visa limit by leaving Morocco for one day... Our Schengen restrictions are still the old 90/180 day rule...
@007peteh5 жыл бұрын

Hello Peter and Dawn . Many thanks for a truly interesting series of videos. Inspirational! We are avid fans and very impressed with the Exploration 45. Tell me: Is it possible to alter the height of the Centreboard whilst sailing through the water or is it set at either fully up or fully down when making way?
@sailingchloe23305 жыл бұрын
Thanks for kind words. You can pull up the centerboard when it's not under load. eg. if you're running downwind you can easily pull it up or drop it down by any amount you choose...... but if it's under heavy load on a reach or a tack it would be probably too tough to move it.. as there'd be too much lateral force and thus friction. When motoring, approaching a shallow marina entrance: no problem.

Wondering if you have any second thoughts about getting the Garcia 45, would you have chosen the 52 instead? was your decision based on price or ease to operate shorthanded, is space and storage an issue on the 45 ft?
@sailingchloe23304 жыл бұрын
yes thought about it. Price is not the issue, instead 52 would not be for us. We had a good look at the 52 and concluded fairly straightforwardly that it's really not a boat for two people who want maximum versatility. When all the winches have to be electric, it's too big for us... we like to be able to handle things when and if they break... . We just don't need all that space and we certainly don't need the docking experiences in closed quarters of a 52. We're very glad to have gotten a 45. It's far easier to sail. A 52 would be too restrictive for us. note bene. Boat sizes increase as L^3 so a 52 is a large boat!
@sailingchloe23304 жыл бұрын
Too big for us.
@stevespell96344 жыл бұрын
Lol a 45 is a large boat. Funny how things have changed over the past 40 years. Not that long ago seeing a 40+foot boat on the Clyde was special and a 30ft boat was a decent size for a family.

Hello!! I'm from Spain and I just want to let you know that the statue at 24:40 is not something related with KKK or some racism thing, hahaha. It is because of one of the most important traditions in Spain, the Holy week, or way to celebrate Easter. That it's a typical "capirotes" dress, which basically are penance who parade those days at the processions!! It has been a very important tradition here for over 500 years hahaha
@007peteh5 жыл бұрын
Hi , Yes, we didn't really think that it was a racist symbol. Just a joke. Only in the USA have we seen such real ugly stuff.. people in Spain don't seem to suffer from the same deep insecurities as in the South East US. It's Ironic that the dress was used historically as a symbolic form of humiliation by the flagellants.. it would be nicer if the meaning in the USA was still the same.... sadly, it's not.
