very late response, and just my interpretation, but it seems to be about addiction, and the way it stagnates you. he starts with this ambitious plan to sail away from it all, and over the course of the song reduces it to driving, then walking, and finally staying in (where "sailing" refers to getting high). really beautiful and really bleak. this live version plays up that interpretation more: soundcloud.com/danny-malone-download/sailing-live-at-orb-free-download
