Worked on the Rotterdam when she was in the Northwest Marine Shipyard in Portland, Oregon around 1989. Beautiful ship!

Loved this! KZbin needs a love button. Rotterdam was my first cruise in '77, it was so wonderful to spend a week aboard her in Rotterdam in 2017, seeing the ship in near original condition was a bonus.

Nostalgic as Always, with a Lot of Heart.. Thankyou Peter. Fortunately in June 1996 I sailed North/South to Vancouver from Seward on the SS ROTTERDAM, (Joining MS STATENDAM the next day for another week round Cruise from Vancouver) and have stayed on her as the great Hotel she IS. And Stanley Park is awesome to watch Ships come and go on "sailing days"....)

Thanks so much, dear Stanley. Fellow ROTTERDAMer! Nothing beats Stanley Park for shipwatching and the ROTTERDAM for being a tangible link to the great liners. So glad she is still with us!

WOW1 Great to see her again. I had the pleasure of sailing on her in the late eighties to the southern Caribbean for 10 days. What a grand lady she was,

I see Rotterdam, I click like. I'm so glad she was saved, she's truly one of the best.

It is such a rare feat to have a ship saved these days. Of all of them, ROTTERDAM deserved it the most.

Hello Peter, based in the Uk we cruised for many years on the TUI (Marella) Spirit, launched originally as the MS Nieuw Amsterdam. Sadly scrapped in 2018 in Alang. She bears a striking resemblance to the Rotterdam and was for a long time our favourite ship. We knew most of the staff and always stayed in the same suite on the starboard side, yes I know sad😊. We were heartbroken when she was sold for scrap, she was a link to a different age and was very grand inside. Also seeing the Legend of the Seas we recently sailed on her sister ship Marella Discovery. Thanks for all the interesting content.

Thank you so much, Fred. I remember attending NIEUW AMSTERDAM's maiden visit festivities in Los Angeles way back in 1983. Time sure does fly.

Thank you Peter ..Will you make a video showing your collection of ship artefacts that you have rescued ,and the ships they came from .
@oceanlinerfanatic2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that would be terrific.

Yes, but to do it right will require a lot of work. Hopefully after the channel gets monetized, if KZbin ever decides to do so. :)

I last saw the Rotterdam in 2000 in NYC as the Rembrandt. I first saw her in Alaska in 1997 from the decks of the Veendam in Alaska!

She was in her element in Alaska. She has been beautifully preserved in Rotterdam. Hope you get to see her again there. :)

Quick question, have you ever been to the SS Augustus in the Philippines? ( Before they scrapped it)
@midshipcinema2 жыл бұрын
Yes. In 1999, then in Alang while she was being broken up. Much of her is now here in my home.

hey its the Province I live in! (I'd rather be in my homeland of Manitoba but eh, at least there is slightly less crime here in BC) ALSO WOW! I'm surprised the Regent Star was there...this was quite literally filmed on the LAST days of the company which was in full collapse by 1995 sadly...after this she would be left to die at Eleusis bay until finally being sent to alang in the 2000s :( Incredible footage as always my friend!

Thanks so much! I LOVE Vancouver and most of the ships in this clip. Yes, poor REGENT STAR limped her way back to Greece. I saw her there a couple times before she sailed off to Alang to be put out of her misery. Thanks for watchig and commenting. :)

Tui cruises is pronounces two-ee The only reason I know this is because the brittish press have a hatred of company rebrands
@midshipcinema2 жыл бұрын
Aaah. Good to know. I do recall in the early days when they were still called TUI (as the parent company), my Brit friends called it as you pronounced it here. Can't amend the video but appreciate the correction. :)
