Enjoy your videos, this one is very impressive, nice job on the gimbal design and execution. Love the craftsmanship in your gimbaled stove. Would you consider making another one the same and selling it to me? I just bought a sailboat and have been looking for a gimbaled stove setup simular to this but haven't had any luck. :) Thanks for the videos

Hi, thanks for the kind comments. When I made the original, I bought in material /parts to make a small batch of these, which have all been installed on friends boats. I'd be up for making more but a one-off would be relatively expensive... I've pinned your comment, so maybe if a few other people are interested (they can let me know via a comment) and I could do another small batch that would be more cost effective.

I would be interested in buying one! In the middle of a refit of a HR Monsun for extensive cruising. LPG is tricky around the world, and meths are no option. But love my multifuel-stoves from trekking, and would very much like a good solution for installing it on the boat!

One more question. Could you make one that detaches from the wall when not in use??

Would like to know if you could make a small vid on the making of your gimbal stove. Thank You!

Excellent piece of work. I designed something similar (though considerably more modest) to run off gas cartridges for use in the cockpit, so I could make a meal on passage without going below.

Fantastic piece of engineering. Mine had an ancient gas system on her but removed in favour of alcohol origo 3000 stove.
@SVNimbus8 жыл бұрын
Thanks.. I also like the origo stoves alot..Did you know that B&Q sell "La Hacienda" bio ethanol in 2litre bottles for £5 during the summer?... and it virtually has no smell when burning.

are you still using this? how’s it going? care to share your plans? it’s absolutely epic!!

Hi, yes its still in action, and thanks for your comment. I dont have any schematics for the design, but the principle is straitforward so you could certainly make yourself one using hand tools.

Details on the rotating mechanisms would be nice. Did you use bearings or does it just pivot on bolts?
@SVNimbus2 жыл бұрын
I used thrust and roller bearings on the main pivot, the high cantilever forces make this necessary. I also used small roller bearings on the inner pivots, but whilst these aren't essential in terms of friction (a hole and shoulder bolts would work fine) they are silent and won't wear. Hope that helps.

Hi, Thanks for the comment, yes I'll be posting more soon. The boat yard damaged my teak cockpit coamings which I rebuilt in GRP, that'll probably be the next video.

Can you burn straight vegetables oil?
@SVNimbus5 жыл бұрын
Hi.... I've not tried burning 100% veg oil, I'll have a go next time just out of curiosity. I suspect it would burn ok, especially at full heat, but might tend to "gum up" the main control valve much quicker (and for sure if the stove wasn't used for a few months) I've found using paraffin that's a couple of years old (and lost it's sparkle) also clogs up the main valve , forming lumps of carbon that then block the main jet.. I generally use 30% filtered veg oil, mixed with paraffin but also add about 5% alcohol to keep thing clean, this seems to work Ok for me.
