Thank you for sharing your beautifully constructed gimbal mounted stove and it's secure mounting system. The design is very well considered and the construction is meticulous. That Stanley cup shape is well suited for this type of application and both complement one anothet!

I sail in cold climates and stormy weather...I think I would need a flame guard all around rather than just one side....that would also make it more efficient by forcing the heat to all go into the 'pan'. Nice job.

good idea but, I would like to see some kind of rocket stove for a boat?
@LiveDontWatch3 жыл бұрын
Do you mean a woodburning rocket stove? I prefer to use a wood stove when backpacking, but wouldn't want it on a boat. Too much riskier and requiring a lot more "management" while cooking than a simple gas stove like this.

I really like this gimbal a lot and can see how it would work well on my Cape Dory typhoon. I was wondering if you can fill us in on the materials and where you got them and the other specs. in building this. I have looked for some pipe stainless and aluminum and it is very expensive. More input would be great. Thanks so much.

I had a metal fabrication shop cut me off a couple of 1" bands of the appropriate size (diameter) tubing. It was years ago, but I would think any metal shop that carries tubing in the desired size would be open to doing this. Prices on tubing have gone up a LOT since then (especially stainless steel).
@markshaw90103 жыл бұрын
@@LiveDontWatch Yes, I have noticed the prices going up like everything else. I have tried to locate this size and no one seems to have anything this big. so I was planning on trying to make this with aluminum and bending it around a form to the size i need then securing the two ends together. sourcing the tubing seems to be pretty hard. I will continue to look.

Love your setup. I have two of the same stainless steel cups and use them on my Catalina 27 in Alaska. I don't have a stove (I use a single burner coleman unit) but want something gimballed. Did you fabricate this yourself?
@LiveDontWatch9 жыл бұрын
Wade Rogers Hi Wade, thanks for the compliment. Yes, I did fabricate it. The two round circles were cut off the ends of appropriate sized stainless tubing/pipe by a metal fabrication shop, then I bought the aluminum for the rest of the metal bracket and bent it by hand. Then I made the wood base and coated it in epoxy.

those isobutane cans are expensive. why not use either a gasoline stove or a classic alcohol stove? even a little table top butane can stove.
@LiveDontWatch3 жыл бұрын
They're super convenient to light, super adjustable for great flame/ heat control, and one canister lasts me for months or even a year of quick heat-up meals. I guess if someone was cooking a lot, cost might matter, but not for this application.

@@LiveDontWatch i forgot to say, you can refill them with regular butane. you only need a 2$ adapter. the IsoButane mix is only needed if you are planning on using them bellow 0C.
