Sailing Down Baja In Our Gemini 105MC Catamaran (COMPLETE VIDEO)

Been there, Done that !! In my 10.7 meter sloop.. But then I continued on to Panama, through the canal, on to San Andrea, Columbia. Honduras, Rio Dulce, Belize, Isla Mujeres Mex., Cuba, then on to Ft Myers Florida via Key West.. MOSTLY ALONE !!! ADVENTURES !!!

We lived in La Paz for about 2 years, loved it!! only came back to the states due to health issues. Our Dream was to settle in La Paz and sail all over the Sea of Cortes. I am very interested in the performance of your Gemini along the route and how it handles. Living Vicariously!!

You need to take the core out of the 10 foot of your furling line. I had the same problem with mine until I found that solution.

Good advice. It’s my own fault because I upsized the line but went a size too big haha just haven’t gotten around to spending more money for the correct line.

You talked about your Code 0 sail, what's the difference between that and screecher on my Gemini?

From my understanding they are very similar and sometimes term used interchangeably. Ours had a tag on the sail that said “code 0” so I tend to refer it as such. But it’s a large light wind sail best for 60-120 angles 12knts or lighter. We use it for downwind use wing on wing also but roll it back up if winds get above 12knts.

Hey I've been looking at buying a Gemini 105, and I've done the Baja coastline twice in my life on other boats. What kind of fuel tankage do they have? I was thinking it was only 35 gallons but you guys seem to be going the entire 800 miles without refueling! I know there's fuel in Bahia Tortugas but don't know if there is in Magdalana Bay...

Yeah I believe the onboard tanks are 16 or 18 gallons each and there are 2. We also carried 30 gallons in Jerry jugs. Topped up in Bahia Tortuga since that’s the only main spot between Ensenada and Cabo. But it’s downwind sailing and the Gemini does great! I wish I could do it again and have a spinnaker to let it cruise!

@@theadventuresons1223 last time I did that stretch was four years ago on a 38 foot catamaran that had a beautiful spinnaker. Some days were racing down the waves at 11 1/2 to 12 knots! I’ve seen other people with those Gemini catamarans, who also pack extra diesel and Jerry calves. I have a Catalina 30 here in Alaska and I also packed 15 extra gallons tied to Lee boards on the rail.

It can definitely be a wild downwind ride some of the days but the best would be those lighter wind days on a catamaran with a spinnaker flying. As long as we are moving 4knts we are moving! I do fly my screecher sail wing on wing with the main and it does pretty well downwind.

@@theadventuresons1223 I've heard of the screechers but have never used one. Sounds like they're sort of a code zero and are really good off the wind and downwind. Yep, I did 7.5 knots w/ my asym on a race 2 years ago on my 30' Catalina but it was way overpowered and started to swing from side to side. Fortunately it was in a sock and I had it down in about a minute!
