Really good view of the Sailrite Walking Foot at 1:59 You need a "broken drone" with a flight release (from DJI) like mine. I can fly anywhere with my "broken Samsung S8". I say its broken because it won't pick up any cell signals, and it will pick up a little wifi but not much. I must say that making such a great friend on this Island is very unique. I've watched 10 channels explore this island without making such a friend . Pretty amazing that you could do that.

Just discovered y'all and I LOVE your stuff ! I had the great pleasure of sailing for many weeks across the middle third of the Pacific from the Society Islands to Tonga and then Fiji back in the late 90s on a boat (that was named for my father) that was doing a circumnavigation. Such a healthy lifestyle - I grew up on sailboats (and sportfishers and jonboats) on the coast of South Carolina. My time in the S Pacific was the experience of a lifetime and all of my boat mates on that trip said that the Marquesas were by far the most beautiful islands EVER. I will follow y'all for sure as I am old, and a cancer survivor, and don't really have hopes to adventure like that again. So I will live vicariously through you and others. Good winds and calm seas to you ! Keep living the dream !

I KNOW that the Sunbrella covers can be replaced by simple Home Depot Behr house paint. This paint is made with high quantities of titanium dioxide, which blocks UV (why it’s good for your house) . I am a sailmaker with fifty years working with commercial and recreational sail and have used this on my own sails with great results. Weight is removed, the roll is smaller, flogging is reduced. You apply it thinned in several light coats so there is no build-up that can craze. This is EXACTLY what the UV protecting adhesive backed materials are coated with as told to me by development engineers at the fabric manufacturer. Titanium dioxide. Pure UV block. And the paint can be color matched. This paint can be also used on any fabric that decays in the sun. The next time your older sail gets worn leech cover, you might consider simply removing it and getting a soft roller and paint as a fix. And if it looks to wear, repaint it. I expect this sounds whacky, but it works and has been well tested, especially by the Experimental Aircraft Association who did the original real testing to protect their Dacron wing surfaces from solar degradation. I love that you take care of your own sails on board. When i was voyaging in the 70’s i supported myself doing sail repairs off me deck. I would tie up to the quay in Papeete and work for a week and then cruise for many weeks with the money made. That served me in Hawaii, Mexico, FP, and NZ. You make your skills work for you and are to be admired for being so independent.

I just HAD to watch this as soon as it dropped today. So no mango and yoghurt, no beer. But 100% enjoyment!! So fun to see you touring with Animal Cracker. Everything’s better with friends. And Warren, don’t worry. We love watching Erica but the projects you work on are worth their weight in… um… memory chips. That is as manly a sewing machine as I’ve ever seen. An under water welder would be proud to be seen using that puppy. Just not for welding. Nice job on getting Precision Sails onboard for the new jib! (Autocorrect tried to change jib to job. Don’t you DARE get a job. Your job is to make us happy). Great filming, great editing. Great people. ❤

It's not likely to be the soil composition that clouds the water in the Marquesas, rather, it's more likely the mountains. With rainfall onto mountains, runoff accelerates significantly, causing increased erosion leading to cloudy water. That is why atolls, like the Tuamotus, have crystal-clear water: because they are so low in elevation that runoff cannot accelerate and effect erosion.

I never know when to quit, but this is all SO very fascinating. Few people realize that atmospheric currents also play a very significant role in sedimentation. Sandstorms in Africa cause so-called dust intrution, which tranports dust (that becomes nutritive sediment), because of the rotation of the Earth, all along the eastern coast of the Americas. This feeds coastal wetland ecosystems (like in the US) but is also well known for bringing nutrients into the Amazom basin, meaning that the most amazing Amazon basin rainforest wouldn't be what it is without sandstorms occurring in "seamingly" desolate places in Africa.

@WEsail I am an uncredentialed, autodidactic explorer of knowledge and experience. Thinking and learning is very pleasurable to me, so I do it a lot. LOL...but so true. If you think of the attention that some people put into jobs and then watching TV and that I put that sort of energy into learning (not schooling), then who I am makes some sort of sense. Perhaps what my current goal is would be more demonstrative of who I am. I have spent thirty plus years seeking to understand the meaning of experience. This has transpired completely on my own, with no academic assistance. It would have been very easy for me to go into academics, but I sought to forge my own path. Now, I'm at the precipice of starting my own KZbin channel, which I envision to be a forum for discussing the spiritual nature of existence.

@WEsail But then I thought, perhaps you would like to know about my career choices? I haven't worked a job in over 20 years, but at my apex (socially speaking), I was a project coordinator with Parsons Brinkerhoff, which is a global engineering firm founded in something like 1885. That sounds like something, and in the regular world it is, but it speaks very little to who I am.

Warren, it wiuld be AWESOME, to have a storm or heavy air sail. Lots 'O peeps take their scary sails-have them re-stitched, new canvas installed, luff & foot (all much cheaper than a new Precision sail). Having that under the bow under the berth is huge piece of mind. I know you're super frustrated over the 10' you got done, but- don't throw our that safety back up!!!

Not to say that soil composition isn't a factor, because it most certainly is, but there are so many factors. Anywhere silt is deposited into the water, that's likely to make for cloudy water. Where sand is deposited, A.KA. beaches as opposed to coastal wetlands, generally clearer water. When it comes to runoff, the tides and currents are a big factor. Oftentimes with runoff, you will notice cloudier water as the tide is coming in, which is because the incoming tide "pins" the sediment laden runoff water to the coast. With an outgoing tide, the water will generally be much clearer. But, the ecosystem of the specific coastal area can have a big impact on water clarity as well. This is because significant ecosystems, like well-developed coral reef systems have a substantial effect on water clarity because of dense filter-feeder populations. In a very global way, water clarity is also affected by currents which are subject to the rotation of the Earth...but that explanation, we'll thankfully leave for another day. But if you look at satellite photography, it's very easy to see that the watershed of major rivers (the alluvial fan, so to speak) is always cloudy. Cheers! Love you guys.

Okay.... as Chairman of the internationally recognised CAAF (Catamarans Are Always Faster), you video has been reported to me for gross violations of our charter.... As this appears to be your first offence we are assuming that a) you had a major malfunction in your sails, b) you were inadvertently dragging 3-4 large buckets behind you that were slowing you down or c) there was some on-board emergency (major ingress of water, orcas chewing off your rudders, knocking over the coffee pot etc) that you had to attend to. If any of these were the case we are happy to let this go. However, it does appear that your biggest crime, is not, just letting a monohull overtake you, it is VIDEOING IT AND PUTTING IT UP ON YOUR KZbin CHANNEL... How on earth do you expect us to maintain the expectations that catamarans are always faster and superior?...,and any race (as you correctly say 'any two boats near each other') is always won by the Cat.... ? We await your reply....
@WEsail
@WEsail Жыл бұрын
Aaaahahahaha this was one of the funniest comments we have ever gotten!! Man thank you for that, we needed a good laugh!! Our official response is that WE are not sure why we aren’t faster- I mean we should be smoking them but we are hoping that it’s due to three things: a little bit of bottom growth built up, not having folding props, and lastly, we are pretty loaded down with everything we want to be happy (bikes, dive gear, dive compressor, paddle boards, surf boards, spares for everything, extra sails, etc)… sorry we have let you down, we will work on it 🫡
