Really have been enjoying your channel, and think you are way under rated considering what you put into the videos and the passion you clearly have for adventure. I almost exclusively watch cruising channels, both motor and sail, and you are among the best in my opinion. I hope you have countless great adventures and am eager to follow along! 👍

Greetings Allison and James:I almost instantly recalled your opening scenes as having sailed there from Vancouver B.C. 43 yers ago in my little CS 27(27 feet). GPS did not exist then and we could not afford loran or satnav or radar. So off we sailed,the 3 of us including a reluctant Irish Setter into the sunset with only compass and sextant and many charts which containted a number of blank areas uncharted. The target destination would be Glacier Bay.Well, we never made it to Glacier Bay! After reaching Ketchikan on July 4th,thereafter ,the weather started to turn ugly and continued to worsen all the way to Wrangel and Peterberg.We did a tour of Fredrick Sound when the weather eased but we did not attempt to enter Le Conte Bay. The gaciers,icebergs and mountain snow caps were much greater than I see in your video. Berg dodging became somewhat tedious after a while! Capturing small chunks of ice replenished our water tanks by melting the pieces in a pot over a kerosene burner.The ice was extrodinarily dense and lasted quite a long time. Since there was no relief reported by weather bulletins,we decided to abandon our target destination and backtrack to the northern tip of Vancouver Island and sail along the west coast and home. Thanks for rekindling the memories! Long may you run.
@AllisonandJamesSailing
@AllisonandJamesSailing 2 күн бұрын
Wow what an adventure! Very cool. Navigating was completely different back then, we feel very fortunate (spoiled!) to be sailing in the age of Navionics! Would have been quite the feat to attempt to enter Le Conte bay in poor weather without adequate charting. We got lucky on this day - you might notice in our next episode how much things changed overnight! The glacier calved tremendously and the inlet was completely filled with ice. Definitely a dramatic area, and the weather is quite testing as well haha. Thank you so much for sharing!!

Love to hear that, maybe we’ll see you up here! Launching the drone is easy, it will just fly off the palm of your hand. Retrieving is a different story, always a bit of a stressful mission😅 We haven’t seen anyone else do this but we actually use a massive fishing net to catch the drone. We should really show that in a video sometime soon haha

That's one hell of a nice breakfast! When I get my boat that I plan on sailing around the world, I plan on doing this same trip that you've taken. I live in northern WA and have seen some of this coastline before but I was on a cruise ship and they travel at night so we didn't see everything. I also was on a Young Life sailing program where we went out for a few days but we didn't go that far north from Vancouver, BC. I did get to swim and the water temp wasn't that cold at all which was very surprising. I want to visit those hot springs! Where are you at in real time right now and when are you planning on leaving from when you cross the Pacific? I'm planning on building my boat in the Philipeans and head toward the Caribbean. Then I plan on doing the Great American Loop and head on over to Europe. From there I plan on sailing around South America following Sailing Sweet Ruca's path and then cross the Pacific where they did but I plan on hitting all of the islands along the way.
@AllisonandJamesSailing
@AllisonandJamesSailing 2 күн бұрын
Good food is an important part of the journey! Sailing around the world is a wonderful and ambitious dream, there’s so much to see! Do you have boat building or other sailing experience or will you be learning along the way? We’re most interested in high latitude sailing. Chile is definitely on the list! We’re still up North and won’t be crossing the Pacific anytime soon, not on this boat haha
@Rob-r2s
@Rob-r2s Күн бұрын
@@AllisonandJamesSailing II was in a junior sailing program where we learned everything about a boat and the operation of it. That propelled me into winning a major Tornado catamaran qualifying regatta for the Olympics. I got four first's and one second with about 120 other Tornado catamarans on the starting line. I also won the Naple Sabor Nationals but got kicked out because I ended up being a few weeks to older than required which I didn't know about. Got 6th place in the Laser North Americans and in the Flight of the Lasers. Then I sailed 1/3rd around the world aboard a 165ft. gaff rigged schooner called TeVega that is now called DEVA for 11 1/2 months. The largest boat that I've ever owned was a racing beach cat. My next boat will be a Mumby Cyber 48 just like what Sailing Life on Jupiter has. That's a KZbin channel that I also like watching. I haven't sailed in a long time due to work in the construction industry and almost forgot about my dream of sailing around the world till a friend reminded me of me saying that a long time ago. Yeah, I got caught up in work and was just surviving but not thriving. Now I'm bored of the land life and want something different. Living on a boat is an adventure and is less expensive than living on land. I'd really like learn how to kit surf and resume free diving again. It's expensive to live this life style and very difficult to be able to afford to do it.
